Book excerpt: On January 16, 2007, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued revi- sed regulatory material relating to the operation of all aircraft on flights with the potential for extended time diversions. As a result, the term ETOPS has been redefined as “Exten- ded Operations” and now includes the operation of all transport aircraft, regardless of the number of engines (except All- Cargo operations of airplanes with more than 2-engines), further than specific threshold times from available enroute diversion airports. The new FAA rules, while still limiting two-engine airplanes to routes that remain within 60 minutes from an Adequate Airport, unless the operator is approved for ETOPS, will now allow two-engine airplanes to be flown on ETOPS routes with diversion times greater than 240 minutes flying time in certain geographic regions. Passenger airplanes with more than two engines will also be required to meet ETOPS requirements under the new rules, whenever they are operated more than 180 minutes from an Adequate Airport. ETOPS Operational Approvals may be granted to operators if the airframe/engine combi- nation being used has been approved for such flights and the operator has established ac- ceptable operations and maintenance programs. FAA Advisory Circulars, AC 120-42B and AC 135-42, provide guidelines for the additional operations, maintenance, reliability and training programs that are required of an FAA ETOPS operator. The current application model treats tags simply as ID carriers and deals with each tag individually for the purpose of identifying the object that the tag is attached to. The uniqueness of RFID as an Infrastructure is to change the traditional individual view to a collective view that treats universally-deployed tags as a new infrastructure, a new wireless platform on which novel applications can be developed. The book begins with an introduction to the problems of tag estimation and information collection from RFID systems, and explains the challenges. It discusses how to efficiently estimate the number of tags in a large RFID system, considering both energy cost and execution time. It then gives a detailed account on how to collect information from a sensor-augmented RFID network with new designs that significantly reduce execution time.

The disturbance of that harmony contributes to the development of several diseases. Most of the cellular functions are executed by proteins, so it is essential to investigate biological processes at the protein level. Antibodies, complex biomolecules with high specificity, are used to recognize our protein of interest in a process known as “immunophenotyping”. One of the routinely used methods to study cellular proteins is flow cytometry, which detects cell surface or intracellular proteins at single-cell resolution. The other most frequent technique is the traditional immunohistochemical investigation of microscopic sections of human tissues. We called authors to publish their latest data studying cancer or autoimmune diseases by immunophenotyping.

Book excerpt: This monograph is one of the first studies that approaches Latin syntax from a formal perspective, combining detailed corpus-based description with formal theoretical analysis. The empirical focus is word order in embedded clauses, with special attention to clauses in which one or more constituents surface to the left of a subordinating conjunction. It is proposed that two such types of left peripheral fronting should be distinguished. The proposed analyses shed light not only on the clausal left periphery, but also on the overall structure of the Latin clause. The study is couched in the framework of generative grammar, but since a thorough introduction is provided, no special background in formal syntax is required. Major topics touched upon are word order, information structure, locality, and the syntax of pied-piping. The book covers both synchronic and diachronic topics of Latin syntax, and is of interest for classical philologists, historical linguists, and formal syntacticians.
