Pensons par exemple à la diffusion de contenus illicites ou offensants, au piratage ou à la violation de données personnelles, au non-respect des droits d'auteur ou encore à la propagande haineuse. L'éthique pourrait se définir comme l'ensemble des valeurs fondamentales à partir desquelles les êtres humains se positionnent et interagissent les uns par rapport aux autres dans le souci du respect mutuel, de la garantie de la dignité humaine et du bien commun.
