Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This commentary by Gareth Lee Cockerill offers fresh insight into the Epistle to the Hebrews, a well-constructed sermon that encourages its hearers to persevere despite persecution and hardships in light of Christ's unique sufficiency as Savior. Cockerill analyzes the book's rhetorical, chiastic shape and interprets each passage in light of this overarching structure. He also offers a new analysis of the epistle's use of the Old Testament -- continuity and fulfillment rather than continuity and discontinuity -- and shows how this consistent usage is relevant for contemporary biblical interpretation. Written in a clear, engaging, and accessible style, this commentary will benefit pastors, laypeople, students, and scholars alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From time immemorial, in every age, a set of questions has persisted, perplexing human beings. Does God exist? Where did the universe come from? Is there any purpose to our lives? Why is there so much suffering? Do we live on after death? How can we find release from suffering and sadness? For what can we hope? These have been called life's "big questions"; they are the ones that never go away. It is the main business of religion to answer ultimate questions. To accomplish this task, every generation of believers benefits by reexamining its theology, thereby providing society with vision. A stagnant theology reflects a religion that is limited in usefulness and effectiveness. Refined by Fire is written for those who affirm the value of lifelong spiritual growth, realize the limits of logic, and embrace the paradoxes in life. This guide provides a mechanism for individuals and small groups to interact with timely theological topics such as the nature of God, Christ, Scripture, truth, faith, evil, sin, salvation, heaven, hell, creation and evolution, the role of the church, and the future of the human race. Each session (chapter) follows a threefold pattern: (a) "Getting Started" provides an initial assignment; (b) "Gaining Momentum," the central part of the text, provides perspective; and (c) "Going Deeper" provides questions for discussion or further reflection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel Origin and All tells how the universe began, explores the rebellion of Lucifer and his angelic host, and explains that Christianity is not a religion, but a revealed life. The book contains a seemingly endless streak of high-level supernatural information, presented in a deliberate manner that will preserve the purity and originality of divine truth, with the aim of offering a comprehensive understanding of life and reality in God's universe. The author shows how life, reality, and the totality of universal existence originated from the conscious existence of a living entity known as Elohim, the Origin of all. Further, prominent matters such as the original plan of God, the rise of fallen angels, the three-fold Gospel, the bridal union, and more are extensively covered. To cap it off, belief systems and forms of worship are considered. Christianity is contrasted with religion to offer discernment to readers. Ancient Benjamin was born in and lives in Kumasi, Ghana, a West African country. He wrote this book to bring a finality of understanding to all men on the subject matter of God and Christianity. Ancient Benjamin, named after his Father, the Ancient of days, is a young man, picked and trained by the Holy Spirit in the arena of revelation knowledge, and discernment. He is specially anointed by the Spirit to relate with a rare kind of supernatural messaging, which produces in him the ability to understand pre-creation conditions and realities. Book The Scandal of Divine Love

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert P. Vande Kappelle
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2017-10-20
  • ISBN : 1532640625
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book The Scandal of Divine Love written by Robert P. Vande Kappelle and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no more important topic for inquiry today than the meaning and message of Jesus, for in this quest lies the solution to human discontent and despair. Examining an array of titles for Jesus found in the New Testament, expressions ranging from rabbi and messiah to Wisdom of God, Word of God, and Lord, this study explores why Christology is not simply the study of Jesus Christ but also of the highest and best in us all. Who is Jesus Christ, and what is his significance for today? Was he fully human, the perfect human, God in disguise, or somehow all of these simultaneously? The key is to begin where the first Christians began, with their experience of Jesus, and then to press forward with the development of that understanding in our experience of Christ. While The Scandal of Divine Love is designed for Christian believers (survivors), it embraces skeptics and seekers alike, mindful that within each of us are multiple voices, sometimes affirming, sometimes questioning, occasionally even denying. Whether you consider yourself primarily as skeptic, seeker, or believer, this study encourages you to listen, appreciate, and cultivate each voice. This volume, ideal for individual and group study, will help you discover anew the magnificence of the life and person known to us as Jesus of Nazareth, as guide, exemplar, and Lord.

Book Divine Action in Hebrews

Download or read book Divine Action in Hebrews written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen renewed interest in divine action, but much of the literature tends to focus on the science-theology discussion. Resulting from multi-year work of the Scripture and Doctrine Seminar, part of KLC's Scripture Collective, this book attends to the portrayal of divine action in one major biblical text, namely Hebrews. In the New Testament, Hebrews is on par with Romans in terms of importance but has too often been overlooked. Contributors to this volume explore the many different ways in which divine action is foregrounded and portrayed in Hebrews. As its name indicates, Hebrews overflows with Old Testament intertextuality, which also makes it a fertile ground for analysis of divine action stretching back into the Old Testament and opening out into different parts of the NT. The essays in this volume: rigorously work the interface of theology and exegesis, all related to Hebrews; offer an overview of the current state of discussion of divine action and the importance of exploring divine action in specific biblical texts, with special reference to William Abraham's recent 4 volume work with OUP; provide an overview of the reception history of Hebrews in theologies of divine action; explore how this has this played out in historical theology and what a retrieval of Hebrews for a theology of divine action might mean today; explore the relationship between the doctrine of God and divine action in Hebrews, including an engagement with classical theism; provocatively explore divine action in the OT, creation, and eschatology in Hebrews; explore the major theme in Hebrews of divine action through the ongoing priesthood of Jesus as portrayed in Hebrews; relate this all to preaching Hebrews today and to spiritual formation. The book's conclusion reflects on the primary action of God speaking in Hebrews.
