Book excerpt: The fact cannot be overlooked that we are in the midst of a sociological crisis of orientation on the grand scale. New problems and needs have become insistent, new fears and longings have come to light. Many are looking for a new foothold, a fundamental certainty, a compass for their life and the life of other human beings. The inconsistencies and ambivalence of the phenomena cannot conceal the fact that religion is attracting greater attention: the old religion and many new ones, the Christian religion as well as the Islamic, Hindu, and Buddhist religions. In East and West anyway the God Progress seems to have lost rapidly something of its credibility; belief in a continually better life with the aid of science and technology and also through revolution and socialism has been shaken by serious doubts. And, while the elderly have not been able - with all the aids of psychology - to come to terms with the meaning of death, younger people - supposedly a Òno futureÓ generation, apathetic, noncommittal, nervous, and self-destructive - are asking afresh about the missing sense of life. Meanwhile, though science did the most in the last century to destroy belief in immortality and made stupendous efforts to prolong life, it is medicine today that has broken through the taboos in regard to death and with its research into dying has given new life to the question of death and survival. But has medicine - or perhaps parapsychology - proved that there is life after death?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

Book Sheol Know

  • Author : Dirk Waren
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2015-06-08
  • ISBN : 9780692466971
  • Pages : 342 pages

Download or read book Sheol Know written by Dirk Waren and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to the soul & spirit of unsaved people when they die? This refers to anyone who has not experienced spiritual regeneration through the gospel, which includes Old Testament saints. The Bible shows that the souls of these people go to (or went to) Sheol at the point of physical decease. Sheol corresponds to Hades. These souls will be resurrected from Sheol one day (Revelation 20:11-15), which is why Sheol/Hades is described as the "intermediate state" since it refers to the condition of unredeemed souls between physical death and later resurrection. So what's the state of souls in Sheol/Hades? Jesus' story of the rich man and Lazarus, if taken literal, suggests a conscious state where people either hang out in bliss with father Abraham or suffer constant fiery torment hoping for a mere drop of water for relief. SHEOL KNOW is an honest and thorough examination of the Scriptures to determine the precise nature of Sheol/Hades. Once you see what God's Word FULLY SAYS on the subject from Genesis to Revelation and not just a single tale that Jesus told, you'll see the truth and, as Jesus said, "the truth shall set you FREE."

Book How to Get to Heaven Without Really Dying

Download or read book How to Get to Heaven Without Really Dying written by Robert Kopecky and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Near-Death Survivor's Guide to Living a Joyful Reality in the Here and Now After living through three very different near-death experiences, Robert Kopecky discovered a remarkable fact about life and death: You don't have to die to go to Heaven. This book shows how to engage with a paradise that is always present in your life. It's about learning how to make choices that lead you to a place of happiness and fulfillment—finding the pathways (and a few shortcuts) that will bring you the spiritual awareness and joy that is your birthright. By cultivating perspective, presence, and purpose, you'll discover that going to Heaven is not about moving into a realm of eternal sleep, but about being right where you are—wherever that may be—and waking up. Praise: "Many people have had near-death experiences and have returned with strong messages for the rest of us. Robert Kopecky's reflections are unusually intelligent and presented in a lively mix of humor and seriousness. I had fun reading this book and appreciated Robert's fresh way of offering traditional wisdom."—Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul and Ageless Soul "Helping us to engage with life, these truths will lead us on a transformational journey in finding a life filled with joy while creating Heaven on Earth."—Anita Moorjani, New York Times bestselling author of What If This Is Heaven "Possibly the most insightful book on how to obtain the enlightenment experienced by those who have gone through a NDE, How to Get to Heaven (Without Really Dying) offers hope and encouragement to experience lasting change."—Marianne Pestana, host of Moments with Marianne "Robert's compassion and selfless service of insight and reflections are a true gift to every reader of this guide to higher consciousness."—Brother Edward Salisbury, DDiv, FD, hospice minister and multiple NDE survivor "Robert Kopecky clearly identifies techniques to help stop our de-evolution of society by remembering our true purpose—to be of service to others."—Linda P. Truax, Board Secretary of the International Association for Near-Death Studies "I appreciate and endorse Robert's key themes, which are presented with engaging and heartfelt first person examples: we if seek peace of mind in this life, we'll find it through acts of kindness, humility, honesty, forgiveness, compassion, and service. These practices are universal, but often expressed in a dogmatic fashion, rather than in the friendly manner found in this book. Perhaps his clarity boils down to the adage, 'Religion is for people who're afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for those who've already been there.'"—Josh Korda, author and guiding teacher of DharmaPunx NYC "A landscape of love is all around us, and yet mysteriously hidden. Based on his own near-death experiences, Robert Kopecky gives us keys to this landscape. Practicing the simple qualities of kindness, compassion, humility, and service open us to the love, light, and magic of life. Heaven is not 'somewhere else' but a state in which we are reconnected to the Divine Consciousness that is within and all around us. This beautiful book helps us to live in this miraculous realm, awake in its wonder."—Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, PhD, author of Sufism: The Transformation of the Heart

Book Common Spirit Common Ground

Download or read book Common Spirit Common Ground written by Michael Strange and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book celebrates the diverse and unique perspectives of spirituality, as expressed by the worldOs major religions. At the same time, it explores the similarities between the major religions with respect to the transcendental experience itself. There are many paths that lead up to the mountain, and from its summit one can appreciate them all. Whatever your current spiritual practice may be, the intention of this book is to help you deepen it. It was written to support mutual respect and tolerance between different cultures and their spiritual ideologies. We can even find ways to appreciate one another. For those of us who follow the spiritual journey, there is more that unites us than separates us. And the diversity between us can open us to new inspiration and to closer union with Spirit, as we listen to one another with an open heart.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ethnographic study focuses on the religious imagery and practices of a sample of Buddhist temples and Muslim mosques in the greater Los Angeles area. As a way of expanding interfaith dialogue, it is framed as a conversation between the largely Christian researchers and the seventy-five respondents, who were asked about the images, space, and practices of their religious experience. From the respondents in their various religious settings, it seeks to distill the specific religious imaginations and aesthetic profiles that might be said to characterize their experience--to discover what might be considered the living images of these faiths. Set in the context of contemporary discussions of the nature of religion and visual culture, this richly textured study of visual and sensory practices in religion raises fundamental questions about the place of belief and ritual practice and the role these play in our increasingly pluralistic religious culture.
