Book A Modern Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics

Download or read book A Modern Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics written by Michele Maggiore and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Modern Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics is suitable for undergraduate students with some background knowledge of the subject and for graduate students, while more advanced topics make it a useful resource for PhD students and researchers. The book places much emphasis on the formal structure of the theory; beginning with Maxwell's equations in the vacuum, it emphasises the central role of gauge invariance and Special Relativity. After introductory chapters which include rederivations of elementary results of electrostatics and magnetostatics, and the multipole expansion, Special Relativity is introduced, and most of the subsequent derivations are performed using covariant formalism and gauge potentials, allowing for greater conceptual and technical clarity compared to more traditional treatments. The second part of the book covers electrodynamics in material media. This includes Maxwell's equations in material media, frequency dependent response of materials and Kramers-Kronig relations, electromagnetic waves in materials, and scattering of electromagnetic radiation. Finally, the text also includes advanced topics, such as the field-theoretical treatment of classical electrodynamics as a modern treatment of radiation reaction. These parts are meant for the advanced reader and are clearly marked, and can be skipped without loss of continuity.

Book Theory Of Clean Rings And Matrices

Download or read book Theory Of Clean Rings And Matrices written by Huanyin Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-08-30 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first monograph devoted to clean ring and matrix theory. It aims to study a theory of expressing an element in a ring as the sum of some special ones, such as idempotents, units, nilpotents, tripotents, involutions, etc. A matrix over such rings is thereby expressed as the sum of some special matrices. Also another topics on the behaviors of topological properties and *-properties of such rings are investigated. The book is based on the results of various published papers, particularly, by the authors'. It is accessible for students familiar with general abstract algebra, while the topics are interesting for researchers in the field of ring, matrix and operator theory.

Book Problems in Classical Electromagnetism

Download or read book Problems in Classical Electromagnetism written by Andrea Macchi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-29 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition adds 46 new problems, for a total of 203. The solutions to certain “old” problems have been revised for improved clarity, in response to questions and comments from our students (second-year students in the Master’s in Physics program). Each problem is given a title indicating its relation to the various areas of physics or technology. By tackling the problems presented here, students are gently introduced to advanced topics such as unipolar and homopolar motors, magnetic monopoles, radiation pressure, angular momentum of light, bulk and surface plasmons, and radiation friction. We also address a number of tricky concepts and apparent ambiguities and paradoxes encountered in the classical theory of electromagnetism, with a particular focus on conservation laws and transformation properties between different frames of reference. At the same time, the book can be used as an introduction to applications of classical electromagnetism including cutting-edge topics like plasmonics, metamaterials, and light-driven propulsion. While unnecessary mathematical complexity is avoided, the new edition also provides a few introductory examples concerning elegant and powerful solution techniques. Hopefully the second edition offers an even better teaching tool for undergraduates in physics, mathematics, and electric engineering, and a valuable reference guide for students planning to work in optics, material science, electronics, and plasma physics.

Book Econometric Methods with Applications in Business and Economics

Download or read book Econometric Methods with Applications in Business and Economics written by Christiaan Heij and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays applied work in business and economics requires a solid understanding of econometric methods to support decision-making. Combining a solid exposition of econometric methods with an application-oriented approach, this rigorous textbook provides students with a working understanding and hands-on experience of current econometrics. Taking a 'learning by doing' approach, it covers basic econometric methods (statistics, simple and multiple regression, nonlinear regression, maximum likelihood, and generalized method of moments), and addresses the creative process of model building with due attention to diagnostic testing and model improvement. Its last part is devoted to two major application areas: the econometrics of choice data (logit and probit, multinomial and ordered choice, truncated and censored data, and duration data) and the econometrics of time series data (univariate time series, trends, volatility, vector autoregressions, and a brief discussion of SUR models, panel data, and simultaneous equations). · Real-world text examples and practical exercise questions stimulate active learning and show how econometrics can solve practical questions in modern business and economic management. · Focuses on the core of econometrics, regression, and covers two major advanced topics, choice data with applications in marketing and micro-economics, and time series data with applications in finance and macro-economics. · Learning-support features include concise, manageable sections of text, frequent cross-references to related and background material, summaries, computational schemes, keyword lists, suggested further reading, exercise sets, and online data sets and solutions. · Derivations and theory exercises are clearly marked for students in advanced courses. This textbook is perfect for advanced undergraduate students, new graduate students, and applied researchers in econometrics, business, and economics, and for researchers in other fields that draw on modern applied econometrics.

This comprehensive book is a valuable resource for engineers involved in tire design and offers unique insights and examples of improvement of tire performances.

Book Multi Composed Programming with Applications to Facility Location

Download or read book Multi Composed Programming with Applications to Facility Location written by Oleg Wilfer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oleg Wilfer presents a new conjugate duality concept for geometric and cone constrained optimization problems whose objective functions are a composition of finitely many functions. As an application, the author derives results for single minmax location problems formulated by means of extended perturbed minimal time functions as well as for multi-facility minmax location problems defined by gauges. In addition, he provides formulae of projections onto the epigraphs of gauges to solve these kinds of location problems numerically by using parallel splitting algorithms. Numerical comparisons of recent methods show the excellent performance of the proposed solving technique. About the Author: Dr. Oleg Wilfer received his PhD at the Faculty of Mathematics of Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. He is currently working as a development engineer in the automotive industry.
