Book Third Generation Mobile Telecommunication Systems

Download or read book Third Generation Mobile Telecommunication Systems written by Peter Stavroulakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-03-12 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One hundred years ago, the notion of transmitting information without the use of wires must have seemed like magic. In 1896, the first patent for wireless communication was granted to Marchese Guglielmo Marconi. Since then the field of wireless communications which includes cellular systems has taken various forms of development. It basically evolved through three Eras. The Pioneer Era over the period of 1860-1921, the Precellular Era over 1921-1980 and the Cellular Era after 1980 and beyond. The first generation cellular era started with the Analog Systems and evolved in the digital domain utilizing Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), thus comprising the Second Generation Mobile Systems. The first generation RF cellular communications systems deployed in the early to mid 1980's had air interfaces comprised of analog technology. Among them were AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System), NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone), and TACS (Total Access Communications System). These were designed for use in a specific geographic area and not intended to be deployed in other areas. There was not much commonality beyond using the same air interface technology and same modulation. The air interface technology was Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and the modulation was analog FM, but with different deviations and channel spacings. The frequency bands, air interface protocols, number of channels, and data rates were different. In general, these systems provided local and national coverage.

Book Synchronization Techniques for Chaotic Communication Systems

Download or read book Synchronization Techniques for Chaotic Communication Systems written by Branislav Jovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-20 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1990s, when synchronization of chaotic communication systems became a popular research subject, a vast number of scientific papers have been published. However, most of today’s books on chaotic communication systems deal exclusively with the systems where perfect synchronization is assumed, an assumption which separates theoretical from practical, real world, systems. This book is the first of its kind dealing exclusively with the synchronization techniques for chaotic communication systems. It describes a number of novel robust synchronization techniques, which there is a lack of, for single and multi-user chaotic communication systems published and highly cited in world’s leading journals in the area. In particular, it presents a solution to the problem of robust chaotic synchronization by presenting the first fully synchronized, highly secure, chaos based DS-CDMA system. The book fills a gap in the existing literature where a number of books exist that deal with chaos and chaotic communications but not with synchronization of chaotic communication systems. It also acts as a bridge between communication system theory and chaotic synchronization by carefully explaining the two concepts and demonstrating how they link into chaotic communication systems. The book also presents a detailed literature review on the topic of synchronization of chaotic communication systems. Furthermore, it presents the literature review on the general topic of chaotic synchronization and how those ideas led to the application of chaotic signals to secure chaotic communication systems. It therefore, in addition to presenting the state of the art systems, also presents a detailed history of chaotic communication systems. In summary, the book stands out in the field of synchronization techniques for chaotic communication systems.

Book 3G HSPA and FDD versus TDD Networking

Download or read book 3G HSPA and FDD versus TDD Networking written by Lajos Hanzo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3G, HSPA and FDD versus TDD Networking, Second Edition is the only book that contrasts the network capacity gains that may be achieved with the advent of adaptive antenna arrays and HSDPA-style adaptive modulation techniques in the context of FDD and TDD CDMA cellular networks. In the five years since the first edition of this book was published the wireless landscape has evolved further. The new book addresses the recent developments in the field of HSDPA-style wireless networking, focusing particularly on the issues and challenges of FDD versus TDD networking. These solutions are particularly powerful in shadow-faded scenarios, when the antenna array elements experience correlated, rather than independent fading. Furthermore, the flexible up-link/down-link time-slot allocation of TDD is beneficial for supporting the Wireless Internet, but results in erratic interference fluctuations, which is efficiently combated by the antenna arrays and adaptive modulation. Additionally, whilst the adaptive modulation aided system simply drops the instantaneous transmission rate during instances of high interference, conventional networks would drop the call. Builds on successful previous edition to include recent developments in the field of HSDPA-style wireless networking Provides an all-encompassing self-contained overview of the subject for a wide range of readers of all levels. Treats the topics of both physical-layer and network-layer aspects of wireless systems using a cross-layer optimization approach. One of the first books to contrast in detail both FDD and TDD networking. The material is presented clearly and logically allowing the uninitiated reader to commence reading it at fundamental non-mathematical conceptual level at the beginning of the book, while advanced readers can turn directly to the required chapter describing solutions to a number of wireless FDD or TDD networking problems. This book will inspire researchers, practicing engineers, operators, marketing engineers and advanced postgraduates.
