Download or read book Essentials for Catholic Teens written by Lewis Dowle and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The authors speak to us in humility but with a confidence and courage which is often lacking in our own Christian discipleship. Their use of personal experiences and "story" echo that of the Master Himself...I am sure you will enjoy reading the different reflections in the book and I know it will repay your time and attention a hundredfold." Bishop Mark O'Toole, Chair of the Catholic Bishop's Department of Evangelization and Catechesis (UK). "I have read enough of your booklet to be able to say that it will prove helpful not only to teenagers and young adults but also to others in a much older age group. For instance, I found the chapter on prayer as inspiring and helpful as many books written for priests and religious." Cardinal Wilfred Napier, South Africa."I have no hesitation in recommending this very contemporary book for the remarkable ways in which it brings many of the eternal truths of our faith alive in new, exciting and memorable ways...I am convinced that 'Essentials for Catholic Teens' is important to God, and will speak very powerfully to all those who read it, just as it has to me." Charles Whitehead, Chairman of the International Charismatic Consultation (ICC), Director of Premier Christian Radio, and Founder of Celebrate Catholic Conference. "If only I had this book when I was 15. Now at 67, and with the 'experience' of age I realise what I have missed! It is packed with a series of personal journeys to better know and love Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The guidance is illustrated with Scripture, the Catechism, sayings of the Saints and grounded by the personal life encounters of the varied young contributors...It is the road map to life on fire with the Holy Spirit. It should be required reading for all young people in our parishes and schools." Deacon Andrew Shute, Plymouth Diocese"With so many challenges for young people, they need the fuel to stand for Christ and run the race. In 'Essentials for Catholic Teen's, it encourages young Catholics to live life to the full in Christ (John 10:10). The Holy Spirit leaps off the pages and is a great resource for all young people. We highly recommend this book to all Catholic Teens." Mario and Anna Cappello, Founders of the ICPE Mission.Essentials for Catholic Teens is all about connecting with God. It is in God that we live and move and have our being. This book is there to help you connect with God.Written by nineteen authors from eight countries and four continents, Essentials speaks from heart to heart. "The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ." These words of Pope John Paul II are quoted in the first sentence of the United States Catholic Bishops Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age. The intention of the new Framework is similar: it provides the course structure and content instruction to serve as a way for high school students to know Jesus Christ, to grow in relationship with him, and to live according to the truth he has given us. After several consultations through its development with bishops, diocesan leaders, teachers, catechists, and publishers, the full body of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops unanimously approved the Framework in 2007. One of its first objectives was to provide guidance to publishers who create instructional materials for use both in Catholic high schools and parish youth ministry programs. Scpope and Sequence Besides providing doctrinal elements for a curriculum, the Framework also strongly suggests a sequence to shape a four-year, eight-semester course of catechetical studies. There are six coresemester-length courses that the bishops strongly recommend be offered in the order they appear in the Framework. Those courses are: I. The Revelation of Jesus Christ in Scripture The Scriptures trace the coming of Jesus, the Christ. II. Who Is Jesus Christ? Jesus is the ultimate revelation from God. III. The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery) Our redemption only comes in and through Jesus. IV. Jesus Christ Continues the Mission in the Church. The Church is the Body of Christ where we meet Jesus today. V. Sacraments as Privileged Encounters with Jesus Christ We can encounter Christ in a full and complete way in the Sacraments. VI. Life in Jesus Christ There are moral principles that govern the life of Christ's disciples. In addition five possible elective courses appear in this Framework as options for the other two semesters. Those courses have been titled Sacred Scripture, History of the Catholic Church, Living as a Disciple of Jesus Christ in Society (Social Justice), Responding to the Call of Jesus Christ (Marriage and Holy Orders), Ecumenical and Interreligious Issues Online Resources Include: - PowerPoint - Presentation - Study Guide - Crossword Puzzles - Review Questions - Prayer Services - And More! Book excerpt: When Sr. Miriam James Heidland’s life as a successful college athlete proved unfulfilling, she went searching for something deeper and ended up falling in love with Jesus. By charting her own journey toward wholeness, Heidland invites young Catholics to pursue their own relationship with Jesus. Although originally full of athletic ambition and goals for a career in sports news, Heidland was transformed in a very slow but deep way during her undergraduate years, moving from party girl to bride of Christ. In Loved as I Am: An Invitation to Conversion, Healing, and Freedom through Jesus, Heidland helps readers learn from her experience of seeking love in the wrong places and instead finding it in Christ. She shares her struggles—learning she was adopted, battling alcoholism, and healing from childhood sexual abuse—as signs of hope that anyone who desires to know Christ can find him and be loved intimately by him in return. By bringing readers into Heidland’s healing process, Loved as I Am provides a gentle and subtle template for finding peace and freedom in Jesus.
