Book Rosenfeld in Retrospect

Download or read book Rosenfeld in Retrospect written by John Steiner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-05-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has Herbert Rosenfeld contributed to psychoanalysis today? Rosenfeld in Retrospect presents original psychoanalytic papers showing the influence of Herbert Rosenfeld on psychoanalysis today, and reproduces some of Rosenfeld's most important clinical writings. In the first part of this book, The Conference Papers: Contemporary Developments of Rosenfeld's Work, the editor brings together papers and discussions by Rosenfeld's well-known contemporaries, Ronald Britton, Michael Feldman, Edna O'Shaughnessy, Hanna Segal and Riccardo Steiner who explore his contribution to psychoanalysis. John Steiner demonstrates the importance of Rosenfeld's classic papers, and critically surveys the more controversial developments in his later work. Part II contains four papers by Rosenfeld, chosen by his colleagues to be his most significant and original contributions. This collection conveys Rosenfeld's liveliness and influence, and will be of interest to all of those attracted to his work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Essays in Retrospect: Collected Articles and Addresses LD men are supposed to have the privilege, for a reason that I do not pretend to understand, of talk in g about themselves. This privilege I have used in a some what difierent way by reconsidering thoughts that I have expressed at various times during an unusually longcareer, and I have here assembled those essays and addresses which I could not bring myself wholly to destroy. They represent some of the chief interests which I have had for many years poetry, painting, teaching, and, above all, that strange position in which man finds himself in a universe that eludes all comprehension. I now fling them out like the bantlin g on the rocks, to live or die, in the hope that they may not be without some casual interest to those con cerned, like myself, with some of the more significant problems of our little life. Book The October Revolution in Prospect and Retrospect

Download or read book The October Revolution in Prospect and Retrospect written by John Marot and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a series of probing analytical essays, John Marot tracks the development of Bolshevism through the prism of pre-1917 intra-Russian Social Democratic controversies in politics and philosophy. For 1917, the author presents a critique of social historical interpretation of the Russian Revolution. Turning to NEP Russia, the author applies Robert Brenner's analysis of pre-capitalist modes of production and concludes that neither Bukharin nor Trotsky's NEP-premised programs of economic transformation and advance toward socialism were feasible. At the same time, he rejects the view that Stalinism was pre-destined to supplant NEP. Instead, he hypothesises that the superior alternative to Stalinism was NEP without collectivization and the Five-Year Plans — a outcome that would have been possible had Bukharin and Trotsky joined forces to stop Stalin.

Book In Retrospect

Book excerpt: #1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER. The definitive insider's account of American policy making in Vietnam. "Can anyone remember a public official with the courage to confess error and explain where he and his country went wrong? This is what Robert McNamara does in this brave, honest, honorable, and altogether compelling book."—Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. Written twenty years after the end of the Vietnam War, former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's controversial memoir answers the lingering questions that surround this disastrous episode in American history. With unprecedented candor and drawing on a wealth of newly declassified documents, McNamara reveals the fatal misassumptions behind our involvement in Vietnam. Keenly observed and dramatically written, In Retrospect possesses the urgency and poignancy that mark the very best histories—and the unsparing candor that is the trademark of the greatest personal memoirs. Includes a preface written by McNamara for the paperback edition.
