Des moyens de mise en évidence existent cependant pour aider le praticien et le patient. Les révélateurs colorés se fixent spécifiquement à la plaque dentaire et vont permettre de la visualiser par contraste de couleur. Première méthode mise au point pour mettre en évidence la plaque dentaire, les formules n'ont cessé de se complexifier et ont permis d'aboutir à la création de produits bi-teintes ou tri-teintes. Soumis à un rayonnement ultraviolet, les biofilms émettent une lumière rouge/orangé. La mise au point de caméras intra-orales exploitant ce principe permet de distinguer efficacement la plaque dentaire de son environnement et constitue un outil précieux pour le praticien. De façon générale la photographie, qu'elle soit classique en lumière naturelle ou thérapeutique en lumière ultraviolette, est un moyen de communication patient/praticien remarquable.

Book excerpt: Notre tâche consistait à trouver des microorganismes aptes à produire une enzyme capable de détruire le constituant principal de la plaque dentaire, c'est-à-dire le dextrane. Ce travail peut se décomposer en trois parties. La première, qui consiste en l'obtention d'une dextranase, a nécessité la mise au point d'une méhode de screening, des conditions du culture du microorganisme producteur, d'une méthode de purification grossière de l'enzime. Nous avons utilisé comme substrat inducteur de l'enzyme le dextrane du commerce. Ce dextrane dont nous pouvons raisonnablement pensé qu'il est fabriqué à partir de Leuconostoc mesenteroïdes n'était pas en fait le substrat final destiné à l'enzyma. En effet, comme nous l'avons vu, les dextranes de la plaque dentaire de manière à contrôler l'efficacité réelle de l'enzyme. Nous avons donc, parallèlement à la recherche de dextranase, essayé de purifier des dextranes fabriqués par des microorganismes de la plaque dentaire, ce qui constitue la deuxième partie de notre travail. Enfin, dans une troisième phase, nous avons dosé l'activité de l'enzyme sur les dextranes cariogènes et étudié les produits d'hydrolyse libérés.

But why do so many advocates remain silent on key issues they care about and how does that silence contribute to narrowly defined policies? What can individuals and organizations do to amplify their privately expressed concerns for policy change? In Healthy Voices, Unhealthy Silence, Colleen M. Grogan and Michael K. Gusmano address these questions through the lens of state-level health care advocacy for the poor. They examine how representatives for the poor participate in an advisory board process by tying together existing studies; extensive interviews with key players; and an in-depth, first-hand look at the Connecticut Medicaid advisory board's deliberations during the managed care debate.
