This book was released on 2022-08-24 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giuseppina Pizzigoni (1870-1947) was a pioneer of the change in the vision of school education in Italy, and an autonomous interpreter of the impulse of transformation that lies at the origin of the progressive school, the active school, and the new school in Europe and the USA. In 1907, she conceived of the renewal of the Italian school, anticipating the structure of the comprehensive school and incorporating the nursery school with infants and children from 0 to 3 years of age. In 1911, she created the first Rinnovata Pizzigoni building, still standing today in Milan. The book explores the real evolution of the experimental method introduced in infant schools, and shows how the initial pedagogical idea can develop creatively, without being an imitation of a previous model.

Download or read book Loris Malaguzzi and the Schools of Reggio Emilia written by Paola Cagliari and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Loris Malaguzzi was one of the most important figures in 20th century early childhood education, achieving world-wide recognition for his educational ideas and his role in the creation of municipal schools for young children in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, the most successful example ever of progressive, democratic and public education. Despite Malaguzzi’s reputation, very little of what he wrote or said about early childhood education has been available in English. This book helps fill the gap, presenting for the first time in English, writings and speeches spanning 1945 to 1993, selected by a group of his colleagues from an archive established in Reggio Emilia. They range from short poems, letters and newspaper articles to extended pieces about Malaguzzi’s early life, the origins of the municipal schools and his ideas about children, pedagogy and schools. This material is organised into five chronological chapters, starting at the end of World War Two and ending just before his death, with introductions to each chapter providing background, including the historical context, the main events in Malaguzzi’s life and the rationale for the selection of documents. The book provides a unique insight into the background, thinking and work of Malaguzzi, revealing, in his own words, how his thinking developed, how he moved between theory and practice, how he border-crossed many disciplines and subjects, and how he combined many roles ranging from administrator and campaigner to researcher and pedagogue. Academics, students and practitioners alike will find this landmark publication provides rich insights into his life and work.
Download or read book Psychological Theories for Environmental Issues written by Mirilia Bonnes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental psychology is an increasingly important area of research, focusing on the individual and social factors responsible for many critical human responses to the physical environment. With such rapid and widespread growth, the main theoretical strands have often been left unclear and their scientific and practical implications have been underdeveloped. This essential and stimulating book contextualizes and critically analyzes the main theoretical ideas. It compares the different theories, assessing each one's possibilities and limitations, and demonstrates how each approach has been used for the development of knowledge of environmental psychology. The research area infiltrates a broad selection of disciplines, including psychology, architecture, planning, geography, sociology, environmental issues, economics and law. It also offers significant contributions to a wide range of policy evaluations. It will prove invaluable to academics and practitioners from across these disciplines, above all those in planning, environmental studies, human geography and psychology.
Download or read book The Pizzigoni Experimental Method in Sara Bertuzzi s Diaries written by Sandra Chistolini and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study sheds new light on childhood education, and reveals Giuseppina Pizzigoni as a contemporary educator of Maria Montessori. While the former is almost unknown and the latter enjoys worldwide fame, both were protagonists of the profound changes in the Italian school system in the 20th century. Their lives developed in parallel, and both great women loved school, respected children, and believed in the strength of education. Pizzigoni’s disciple Sara Bertuzzi later picked up the baton, and continued the impulse of innovation, freedom, inclusion and sustainability, faithful to the features and fundaments of Pizzigoni’s pedagogy and methodology. She became the only expert in the field of the new school, and her diaries highlight the theory and practice of the experimental method in both kindergarten and preschool.
Download or read book Early Childhood Programs as the Doorway to Social Cohesion written by Jacqueline Hayden and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, early childhood education and care has moved onto the policy agenda in many countries. There is growing recognition that early access to quality education and appropriate care provides young children with a good and fair start in life. While scientific research constantly brings new insights into brain development and the enormous importance of the first years of a child’s life, the early 20th century theories of one Russian psychologist, Lev S. Vygotsky (1896–1934), have had profound and diverse impacts upon the early childhood education traditions in both the East and the West and remain highly relevant today. Recently, more than 750 early childhood education researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and NGO activists from around the world met in Prague at “Exploring Vygotsky’s Ideas: Crossing Borders,” the 17th Annual Conference of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA), hosted by the International Step by Step Association (ISSA). In an effort to share many of the intriguing ideas and practices discussed during the conference with a broader audience, ISSA invited leading presenters to explore their experiences in early childhood through the prism of Vygotsky’s theories and ideas. The result of ISSA’s initiative is this volume of papers which examine Vygotsky’s legacy on early childhood education systems in both the East and the West, offering ideas which can be used to work for the benefit of children and societies across the globe.

Download or read book Childhood in African Literature written by Eldred D. Jones and published by Africa World Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "African authors have consistently returned to childhood to find their personal as well as their racial roots. Far from being merely nostalgic yearnings for a lost paradise, many of the treatments of childhood as shown in articles in this issue have exposed a grim reality of cruelty, harshness, parental (particularly paternal) egocentrism and extraordinary bruisings of the vulnerable child psyche. Camara Laye may have portrayed a paradise state but Yvonne Vera has treated one of the cruelest features of childhood anywhere. African authors generally have been sternly responsible in their portrayal of childhood." -- Publisher's description

Download or read book L educazione ambientale come patrimonio per le generazioni future written by Adriano Sofo and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
