En effet, la grammaire générative et la psychomecanique - qui la devance de quelque trente ans - ont les memes fondements épistémologiques. Toutes deux récusent le positivisme, traditionaliste ou behavioriste, et reintroduisent dans la science du langage la dimension mentaliste. Est-ce à dire que la psychomecanique est une "grammaire générative", comme on a pu l'affirmer? Et si elle est generative, de quelle manière l'est-elle ? Le present recueil apporte quelques éléments de reponse a ces questions, parmi d'autres. Pour la première fois se trouvent reunies des etudes où sont confrontees les theories de GUILLAUME et de CHOMSKY sur des problèmes spécifiques. Confrontation, et parfois aussi affrontement : la polemique n'est pas absente et fera rebondir le de bat.
