Book Esau Jones Bounty Hunter

Download or read book Esau Jones Bounty Hunter written by Jim Feazell and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-07-07 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spring of 1865, the war had ended, the president had been assassinated, reconstruction had began before the war ended and the border country of north and south was in a state of chaotic turmoil. Factions from both sides of the war had their lives up-heaved and destroyed beyond repair. Esau Jones was one of such men. He was only a teen-age boy when he rode as a renegade bushwhacker with William Quantrill causing havoc with Union sympathizers and Union troops. During these tumultuous times, guerrilla warfare still gripped the border country of Kansas and Missouri. Bitter conflicts ensued, bringing an escalating cycle of atrocities by both sides. As guerrilla warfare decreased more and more ex-guerrillas turned to outlawry for a living. Esaus friend, Jesse James, tried to get him to join him in banditry. Esau refused saying he wished to go west and find honest employment. Through a turn of fate Esau fell into the occupation of bounty hunting. His reputation spread like wildfire among the outlaw element as the most feared bounty hunter of all time. Just to hear his name would cause one to quake in fear.

Book Feathers

Book excerpt: An autobiography is a book about the life of a person, written by that person. Biographers generally rely on a wide variety of documents and viewpoints, an autobiography, however, may be based entirely on the writers memory. Closely associated with autobiography (and sometimes difficult to precisely distinguish from it) is the form of memoir. Memoirs are constructed from formal autobiographies which tend to encompass the writers entire life span, focusing on the development of his or her personality. The chronological scope of a memoir is determined by the works context and is therefore more focused and flexible than the traditional arc of birth to old age as found in an autobiography. Will Rogers put it a little more pithily. Memoirs means when you put down the good things you ought to have done and leave out the bad ones you did do.As you travel the pages of my life, I hope your trip to be as thrilling as when I lived it.

Book excerpt: Jesses turn to crime after the end of the Civil War helped cement his place in American history as a simple but remarkably effective bandit. Displaced by reconstruction, the antebellum political leadership mythologized Jesses exploits. During the time before and after his death, he became the subject of dime novels, which set him up as pre-industrial models of resistance. During the populist and progressive eras, was when Jesse became a symbol as Americas Robin Hood, standing up against corporate syndicates in defense of the small farmer. Protrayals in the 1950s pictured Jesse as a psychologically troubled individual rather than a social rebel. Some filmmakers portrayed the former outlaw as being vindictive, replacing social with exclusively personal motives. It was only shortly after Jesses death, that in his afterlife, he began to discover ways to effectuate his desire for vengeance. Revenge on those who betrayed him. Revenge on those who sought his death. What price could one put on a Mothers arm?a little Brothers life?A Wifes suffering? Yesand on his own life!!

Download or read book Leadership in Healthcare written by Richard B. Gunderman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-03 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership in Healthcare opens up the world of leadership studies to all healthcare professionals. Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals spend thousands of hours studying the science and technology of healthcare, and years or even decades putting into practice recent findings in molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, and therapeutics. By contrast, the topic of leadership and the traits of effective leaders tend to receive remarkably little attention. Yet no less vital than an understanding of how to interpret diagnostic tests and design care plans is a grasp of healthcare's organizational side, including the operation of multidisciplinary care teams, academic departments, and hospitals. If patient care, education, research, and professional service are to thrive in years to come, we must do a better job of preparing healthcare professionals to lead effectively. Composed of insightful and thought-provoking essays on the key facets of leadership, this book is designed to meet the needs of several important constituencies, including educators of health professionals who wish to incorporate leadership into their educational programs; health professional organizations seeking to enhance their members' leadership effectiveness, and individual health professionals who wish to embrace leadership in their personal and professional lives. This book represents a vital resource for health professionals who wish to enhance the quality of leadership in health professions education, practice, and professional development. In addition to regularly caring for patients, Richard Gunderman, MD PhD MPH brings to this discussion a wealth of personal experience in professional and organizational leadership.

From Robert Barnwell Rhett's inflammatory 1844 speech in Bluffton calling for secession, to the last desperate attempts by Confederate forces to halt Sherman's juggernaut, the region was torn apart by war. This history tells the story through the experiences of two radically different military units--the Confederate Beaufort Volunteer Artillery and the U.S. 1st South Carolina Regiment, the first black Union regiment to fight in the war--both organized in Beaufort, the heart of the Lowcountry.

Book Who Do You Serve Who Do You Protect

Download or read book Who Do You Serve Who Do You Protect written by Maya Schenwar and published by Haymarket Books. This book was released on 2016-05-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays and reports examining the reality of police violence against Black and brown communities in America. What is the reality of policing in the United States? Do the police keep anyone safe and secure other than the very wealthy? How do recent police killings of young Black people in the United States fit into the historical and global context of anti-blackness? This collection of reports and essays (the first collaboration between Truthout and Haymarket Books) explores police violence against Black, brown, indigenous, and other marginalized communities, miscarriages of justice, and failures of token accountability and reform measures. It also makes a compelling and provocative argument against calling the police. Contributions cover a broad range of issues including the killing by police of Black men and women, police violence against Latino and indigenous communities, law enforcement’s treatment of pregnant people and those with mental illness, and the impact of racist police violence on parenting. There are also specific stories such as a Detroit police conspiracy to slap murder convictions on young Black men using police informant, and the failure of Chicago’s much-touted Independent Police Review Authority, the body supposedly responsible for investigating police misconduct. The title Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect? is no mere provocation: the book also explores alternatives for keeping communities safe. Contributors include William C. Anderson, Candice Bernd, Aaron Cantú, Thandi Chimurenga, Ejeris Dixon, Adam Hudson, Victoria Law, Mike Ludwig, Sarah Macaraeg, and Roberto Rodriguez. Praise for Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect? “With heartbreaking, glass-sharp prose, the book catalogs the abuse and destruction of Black, native, and trans bodies. And then, most importantly, it offers real-world solutions.” —Chicago Review of Books “A must-read for anyone seeking to understand American culture in the present day.” —Xica Nation “This brilliant collection of essays, written by activists, journalists, community organizers and survivors of state violence, urgently confronts the criminalization, police violence and anti-Black racism that is plaguing urban communities. It is one of the most important books to emerge about these critical issues: passionately written with a keen eye towards building a world free of the cruelty and violence of the carceral state.” —Beth Richie, author of Arrested Justice: Black Women, Violence, and America’s Prison Nation

Book ULYSSES Modern Classics Series

Download or read book ULYSSES Modern Classics Series written by James Joyce and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2024-01-10 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "ULYSSES (Modern Classics Series)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Ulysses is a modernist novel by Irish writer James Joyce. It is considered to be one of the most important works of modernist literature, and has been called "a demonstration and summation of the entire movement". Ulysses chronicles the peripatetic appointments and encounters of Leopold Bloom in Dublin in the course of an ordinary day, 16 June 1904. Ulysses is the Latinised name of Odysseus, the hero of Homer's epic poem Odyssey, and the novel establishes a series of parallels between its characters and events and those of the poem (the correspondence of Leopold Bloom to Odysseus, Molly Bloom to Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus to Telemachus). Joyce divided Ulysses into 18 chapters or "episodes". At first glance much of the book may appear unstructured and chaotic; Joyce once said that he had "put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant", which would earn the novel "immortality". James Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist and poet, considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist avant-garde of the early 20th century. Joyce is best known for Ulysses, the short-story collection Dubliners, and the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Finnegans Wake.
