Book The Making of Eretz Israel in the Modern Era

This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Napoleon’s invasion of the Middle East marks the beginning of the modern era in the region. This book traces the developments that led to the making of a new and separate geographical-political entity in the Middle East known as Eretz Israel and the establishment of the State of Israel within its bounds. Thus, its time frame runs from Napoleon’s invasion of Eretz Israel / Palestine in 1799 to the establishment of Israel in 1948–1949. Eretz Israel as the formal name of a separate entity in the modern era first appeared in the early translations into Hebrew of the Balfour Declaration, while in the original document the country was referred to as “Palestine.” During the period of Ottoman rule the territory that would in time be called Eretz Israel / Palestine was not a separate political unit. Among Jews, use of “Eretz Israel” increased only after the beginning of Zionist aliyot. Had the Zionist movement not arisen, it is doubtful whether the development to which this study is devoted would have occurred. The motivating force behind that process is without doubt the Zionist element. That is why Jews are the major protagonists in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars of the Hebrew Bible have in the last decade begun to question the historical accuracy of the Israelite sojourn in Egypt, as described in the book of Exodus. The reason for the rejection of the exodus tradition is said to be the lack of historical and archaeological evidence in Egypt. Those advancing these claims, however, are not specialists in the study of Egyptian history, culture, and archaeology. In this pioneering book, James Hoffmeier examines the most current Egyptological evidence and argues that it supports the biblical record concerning Israel in Egypt.

Book Contemporary Catholic Approaches to the People State and Land of Israel

Download or read book Contemporary Catholic Approaches to the People State and Land of Israel written by Gavin D'Costa and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Vatican II, the Roman Catholic Church began a process of stripping away anti-Jewish sentiments within its theological culture. One question that has arisen and received very scant attention regards the theological significance of the founding of the state of Israel in 1948 – and the attendant nakba, the plight of the Palestinian people. Some American evangelical Christians have developed a theology around the state of Israel, associating themselves with Zionism. Some Christian groups have developed a theology around the suffering of the Palestinian people and demand resistance to Zionism. This unique collection of essays from leading Catholic theologians from the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, England, and the Middle East reflect on the theological status of the land of Israel. These essays represent an exhaustive range of views. None avoid the new Catholic theology regarding the Jewish people. Some contributors see this as leading towards a positive theological affirmation of the state of Israel, while distancing themselves from Christian Zionists. All contributors are committed to rights of the Palestinian people. Some affirm the need for strong diplomatic and political support for Israel along with equal support for Palestinians, arguing that this is as far as the Church can go. Others argue that the Church’s emerging theology represents the guilt conscience of Europe at the cost of the Palestinian people. None deny the right of Jews to live in the land. Two Jewish scholars respond to the essays creating an atmosphere of genuine interfaith dialogue which serves Catholics to think further through these issues.

Book For the Security of Israel Find Joseph

Download or read book For the Security of Israel Find Joseph written by Walter James Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2011-03 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The LORD God of Israel is in an eternal Blood-Covenant with Abraham and his natural Hebrew descendants to give them the land of Israel for an everlasting possession; and in the process of time to make them as the dust of the earth, stars of heaven, and sand of the sea. He also promised to make the descendants of Ephraim, the son of Joseph, into a multitude of nations in the middle of the earth. -- These literal promises cannot possible be fulfilled solely in modern Israel, or in the 13+ million Jews alive on the earth today. Where is the rest of Israel...the hidden nations and multitudes of Ephraim...the so-called Lost Tribes of Israel who the Bible says would lose their Hebrew identity; and then, according to Ezekiel 37:15-22, in the latter years become joined with the Jews of Israel to become one nation again on the mountains of Israel...territory now proposed to become a Palestinian state? -- This book traces from the Old Testament exactly what God promised to Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, David, Solomon, Sarah, Rebekah, and Hagar concerning Abraham's seed and the nation of Israel. A fresh look at these Scriptures clearly reveals that these hidden nations of Joseph exist somewhere on the earth today. They were never Jewish in their ethnic stock; and are also not Arab...and Christians are the spiritual seed of Abraham and not his natural seed. -- The security of Israel before the Messiah comes is in the return of Joseph to the land. So, then, I implore the Jews of the world-Israel Find Joseph. Walter James Taylor

The main purpose of the conference, stressed in the title of the volume, was to show the rich variety of civilizations that met in this region and influenced its culture. The impact of Bronze Age Palestine, Syria, Egypt, the Philistines, the Persians, the Hellenistic Seleucids, and of course the Hebrew kingdoms of Israel and Juda, made the Land of Israel indeed to a cross-road of civilizations.
