Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lena's Happiness Secret: Lena's Lyckohemligheter is a bilingual mindfulness children's book in English and Swedish. About the book in English: Lena is a child with ordinary powers; she can see, count, touch, taste, feel and imagine. All this is enough for her to be happy. Lena's happiness is due not to outside circumstances, but to her connection with her authentic self. Lena's Happiness Secret was written to enhance your child's capacity to be in the present moment, to encourage her to be in touch with her senses and feelings, and to plant a seed to help her understand the world that surrounds her in the here and now. The book can help your kid to become more focused, aware and patient. The book ends with a visualization exercise that strengthens your child's contact with herself and her surroundings. As a parent, you can do this visualization exercise while reading with your child. As adults, we are trying to redirect our understanding of happiness away from external factors to embrace the internal, the unconditional love of ourselves. Why don't we give our kids the chance to practice feeling this kind of unity at an early age? This will be placing a tool for life in their toolbox. Lena's Happiness Secret can take its place among the other books you read to your child to help her to grow up as a happy individual in contact with herself.

Book The Making of Selim

    Book Details:
  • Author : H. Erdem Cipa
  • Publisher : Indiana University Press
  • Release : 2017-02-28
  • ISBN : 0253024358
  • Pages : 443 pages

Download or read book The Making of Selim written by H. Erdem Cipa and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The father of the legendary Ottoman sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, Selim I ("The Grim") set the stage for centuries of Ottoman supremacy by doubling the size of the empire. Conquering Eastern Anatolia, Syria, and Egypt, Selim promoted a politicized Sunni Ottoman* identity against the Shiite Safavids of Iran, thus shaping the early modern Middle East. Analyzing a wide array of sources in Ottoman-Turkish, Persian, and Arabic, H. Erdem Cipa offers a fascinating revisionist reading of Selim's rise to power and the subsequent reworking and mythologizing of his persona in 16th- and 17th-century Ottoman historiography. In death, Selim continued to serve the empire, becoming represented in ways that reinforced an idealized image of Muslim sovereignty in the early modern Eurasian world.

Book How Second Languages are Learned

Download or read book How Second Languages are Learned written by Roger Hawkins and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-22 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive introduction to how people learn second languages (L2s), this textbook approaches the topic through five problems the L2 learner has to solve: 'breaking into' the L2; associating forms with meanings; learning sentence structure; learning phrasal and sentential meaning; and learning the use of the L2 in context. These problems are linked throughout to the L2 acquisition of lexis, morphology, syntax, semantics, phonetics/phonology and language-use in a reader-friendly way, using key studies to build a comprehensive picture of how L2s are learned. 'In a nutshell' summaries of chapter sections provide helpful signposts to the developing argument, whilst end-of-chapter activities encourage the reader to reflect on the ideas presented, analyse data and think creatively about the problems encountered. The roles of innate knowledge, input, and the age at which learning starts are also considered. This essential textbook will enable students to think objectively about language, and will be an asset to any introductory course on second language acquisition.

Book Mongolic Elements in Tuvan

Download or read book Mongolic Elements in Tuvan written by Bayarma Khabtagaeva and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2009 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tuvan is one of the archaic Turkic languages. A powerful Mongolic influence means that it possibly also has more Mongolic elements than other Turkic languages. Results of the present work are based on a database of approximately 1500 Mongolic loanwords. After confirming the Mongolic origin of these words in Tuvan, etymological, phonetical and morphological aspects are listed to assure, when and from which Mongolian language the loanword was taken. The study demonstrates the powerful Mongolic influence on Tuvan and establishes what linguistic criteria are available to characterize and classify the Mongolic loanwords. Accordingly an earlier and a later layer are distinguished. The later layer further comprises three groups of loanwords, the Buryat, Khalkha and Oirat ones.

Book After the Crash

Download or read book After the Crash written by Orhan Erdem and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-04 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to diagnose and analyze the social, economic and technological consequences of the 2008 financial crisis, which brought epochal changes to our lives. First and foremost, a paradigm shift arose in economic theories that fail to predict or explain the crisis. On the governmental side, we have been observing a natural parallel between authoritarianism and the way many democratic countries are being governed. Liberalism seems to have failed. Driven by the anger over the crisis and its heavy burden, a variety of technological innovations were birthed and gained momentum. Bitcoin was a manifesto to the monetary system; sharing economy was a rebellion to the consumerist lifestyle; and subscriptions were a threat to ownership. This books ties each of these events to the 2008 crisis and explains the connection.
