Book Trace Element Equilibrium Studies

Download or read book Trace Element Equilibrium Studies written by John D. Gassaway and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equilibrium distribution coefficients of trace elements in seawater on ion-exchange resins were investigated. These resins contained various organic complexing and precipitating agents known to react with the elements under study. The resins used were either commercially prepared or synthetic modifications of commercial resins. A comparison of this work with that of Riley and Taylor (1968) and Goya and Lai (1967) shows that the zinc (II) and cobalt (II) content of seawater can readily be determined using Chelex 100, whereas the mercury (II) and chromium (III) content cannot. The great variation of results of various workers on mercury retention by Chelex 100 is most likely due to complex mercuric chemistry. The toluenesulfonamide form of Dowex 1 which retained 92 percent of the 51Cr (III) appears to be more suitable for concentrating chromium from seawater.

  • Author : Frances Drake
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-05-01
  • ISBN : 1134670184
  • Pages : 293 pages

Download or read book Global Warming written by Frances Drake and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This topical textbook provides a bridge between technical and popular texts on global warming within the broader context of climate change. Written at an introductory level, it explains the interacting components of this system : what the greenhouse effect is; and how scientists seek to predict climate change. It makes accessible the technical and heavy science literature to the 'non-science' student. Global warming is one of the major environmental problems facing the world today. But it is an issue surrounded by great contention because it is based largely on scientific prediction and has yet to be proven. Opinion is divided regarding whether global warming will occur and, if it does, what the effects will be. In order to appreciate the uncertainties surrounding this issue, it is necessary to understand the workings of the climate system and the methods by which scientists seek to predict climate change. 'Global Warming' aims to make accessible the heavily technical literature to the non-science student, providing a bridge between the highly scientific and the popular non-academic texts. Placing global warming within the broader context of climate change, this textbook details the interacting components of the climatic system, reviewing the importance of changing carbon dioxide levels for the evolution of the Earth's atmosphere and climate. Utilising observed and modelled data, it presents the latest evidence for and against global warming whilst highlighting the difficulties involved with analysing both types of data and introducing areas of controversy within research. The book also addresses the important problem of making policy decisions for the future, based on the uncertain science of global warming.

Book Equilibrium Theory in Infinite Dimensional Spaces

Download or read book Equilibrium Theory in Infinite Dimensional Spaces written by M. Ali Khan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apart from the underlying theme that all the contributions to this volume pertain to models set in an infinite dimensional space, they differ on many counts. Some were written in the early seventies while others are reports of ongoing research done especially with this volume in mind. Some are surveys of material that can, at least at this point in time, be deemed to have attained a satisfactory solution of the problem, while oth ers represent initial forays into an original and novel formulation. Some furnish alternative proofs of known, and by now, classical results, while others can be seen as groping towards and exploring formulations that have not yet reached a definitive form. The subject matter also has a wide leeway, ranging from solution concepts for economies to those for games and also including representation of preferences and discussion of purely mathematical problems, all within the rubric of choice variables belonging to an infinite dimensional space, interpreted as a commodity space or as a strategy space. Thus, this is a collective enterprise in a fairly wide sense of the term and one with the diversity of which we have interfered as little as possible. Our motivation for bringing all of this work under one set of covers was severalfold.

Book Quantitive Analysis Of Biospec

Download or read book Quantitive Analysis Of Biospec written by Per Lundahl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2004, this book collects several up-to-date methods for quantitative analysis of biospecific interactions, a field that has a long history that perhaps can be said to have begun with the classical paper of G. Scatchard in 1949 (The attractions of proteins for small molecules and ions, but which has advanced impressively during the last few years. A precise spatial arrangement of just a few hydrogen bonds can confer a remarkably specific reversible association between two molecules. A web of weak interactions governs biospecific recognition in general. The binding equilibria in living cells tune and coordinate a multitude of functions. The thermodynamic properties of such interactions are often studied by binding experiments in simplified and essentially ideal systems. However, similar types of studies may elucidate the biologically relevant dynamic steady-state conditions in living cells and organisms, allowing for the very wide range of interactant concentrations and the interplay between the many reactions and interactions. The development in biosciences will continue with in-depth studies of macromolecules and membranes. More detailed knowledge will allow analyses of delicate balances between substances and events in the complex systems involved in life processes. Methods to study biospecific affinities are thus highly important tools for understanding mechanisms and effects of molecular binding events in vivo and in vitro, e.g., in biochemical, biomedical and pharmaceutical research, and for biotechnological research and production.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because the increasing complexities of diagnos testing and training, for example) are of neces ing and treating coronary artery disease are at sity discussed in more than one chapter with times overwhelming for many physicians, the appropriate cross referencing. Special attention purpose of this book is to bring together in one has been directed at making the references as comprehensive yet reasonably concise text a current as possible. Since the aim of the book is to do more than just update the concepts, the scholarly but clinically oriented analysis of the reader is also informed of the pertinent contro major aspects of coronary artery disease. The book is mainly intended for internists versies in the field. The word controversy is used in its most liberal form, so as to include areas of and clinical cardiologists as well as for those in training for these respective disciplines, but it disagreement or of uncertainty as well as should also be of interest to primary care physi changes in traditional views. Each of the con cians responsible for the management of pa tributors has been asked to identify specifically tients with coronary artery disease. Each of the the most important of the controversies in his contributors-whether cardiologist, radiologist, particular area of interest and to address himself or surgeon-has been selected for his special to these issues in the course of the chapter.
