Download or read book Computer Architecture written by Joseph D. Dumas II and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only does almost everyone in the civilized world use a personal computer, smartphone, and/or tablet on a daily basis to communicate with others and access information, but virtually every other modern appliance, vehicle, or other device has one or more computers embedded inside it. One cannot purchase a current-model automobile, for example, without several computers on board to do everything from monitoring exhaust emissions, to operating the anti-lock brakes, to telling the transmission when to shift, and so on. Appliances such as clothes washers and dryers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, etc. are almost all digitally controlled. Gaming consoles like Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii are powerful computer systems with enhanced capabilities for user interaction. Computers are everywhere, even when we don’t see them as such, and it is more important than ever for students who will soon enter the workforce to understand how they work. This book is completely updated and revised for a one-semester upper level undergraduate course in Computer Architecture, and suitable for use in an undergraduate CS, EE, or CE curriculum at the junior or senior level. Students should have had a course(s) covering introductory topics in digital logic and computer organization. While this is not a text for a programming course, the reader should be familiar with computer programming concepts in at least one language such as C, C++, or Java. Previous courses in operating systems, assembly language, and/or systems programming would be helpful, but are not essential.

Book Assembly Line Balancing under Uncertain Task Time and Demand Volatility

Download or read book Assembly Line Balancing under Uncertain Task Time and Demand Volatility written by Yuchen Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces several mathematical models in assembly line balancing based on stochastic programming and develops exact and heuristic methods to solve them. An assembly line system is a manufacturing process in which parts are added in sequence from workstation to workstation until the final assembly is produced. In an assembly line balancing problem, tasks belonging to different product models are allocated to workstations according to their processing times and precedence relationships among tasks. It incorporates two features, uncertain task times, and demand volatility, separately and simultaneously, into the conventional assembly line balancing model. A real-life case study related to the mask production during the COVID-19 pandemic is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed framework and methodology. The book is intended for graduate students who are interested in combinatorial optimizations in manufacturing with uncertain input.

Book Modeling Verification and Exploration of Task Level Concurrency in Real Time Embedded Systems

Download or read book Modeling Verification and Exploration of Task Level Concurrency in Real Time Embedded Systems written by Filip Thoen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: system is a complex object containing a significant percentage of elec A tronics that interacts with the Real World (physical environments, humans, etc. ) through sensing and actuating devices. A system is heterogeneous, i. e. , is characterized by the co-existence of a large number of components of disparate type and function (for example, programmable components such as micro processors and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), analog components such as AID and D/A converters, sensors, transmitters and receivers). Any approach to system design today must include software concerns to be viable. In fact, it is now common knowledge that more than 70% of the development cost for complex systems such as automotive electronics and communication systems are due to software development. In addition, this percentage is increasing constantly. It has been my take for years that the so-called hardware-software co-design problem is formulated at a too low level to yield significant results in shorten ing design time to the point needed for next generation electronic devices and systems. The level of abstraction has to be raised to the Architecture-Function co-design problem, where Function refers to the operations that the system is supposed to carry out and Architecture is the set of supporting components for that functionality. The supporting components as we said above are heteroge neous and contain almost always programmable components.

Book A Sixty minute Vigilance Task with 100 Scoreable Responses

Download or read book A Sixty minute Vigilance Task with 100 Scoreable Responses written by Robert S. Kennedy and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four forms of a vigilance task were administered over four sessions in counterbalanced order to 16 subjects. Three of the tasks required auditory (1, 2, or 3 tones) and one required visual (3 lights) monitoring. Visual performance was superior to auditory performance which was a function of the number of channels monitored, and performance for the four sessions was asymptotic. Among the different scoring methods used, 'percent correct' had the most common variance. Decrements in performance appeared within 10 minutes in the one- and two-channel auditory tasks. An overall downward trend appeared in the three-channel visual task but was less regular. No systematic change in performance was apparent in the three-channel auditory task. Intratask correlations were high (> .75), while intertest correlations showed only a 20 per cent common variance. (Author).

Book Self Aware Security for Real Time Task Schedules in Reconfigurable Hardware Platforms

Download or read book Self Aware Security for Real Time Task Schedules in Reconfigurable Hardware Platforms written by Krishnendu Guha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-23 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on how real-time task schedules for reconfigurable hardware-based embedded platforms may be affected due to the vulnerability of hardware and proposes self-aware security strategies to counteract the various threats. The emergence of Industry 4.0 has witnessed the deployment of reconfigurable hardware or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) in diverse embedded applications. These are associated with the execution of several real-time tasks arranged in schedules. However, they are associated with several issues. Development of fully and partially reconfigurable task schedules are discussed that eradicates the existing problems. However, such real-time task schedules may be jeopardized due to hardware threats. Analysis of such threats is discussed and self-aware security techniques are proposed that can detect and mitigate such threats at runtime.
