Book High Voltage Overhead Transmission Line Electromagnetics

Download or read book High Voltage Overhead Transmission Line Electromagnetics written by Robert Olsen and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-07 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has two purposes. The first is to examine the electromagnetic theory behind many of the calculations relevant to the design of high voltage overhead transmission lines. These include electromagnetic propagation on multiple parallel wires above the earth and their associated fields, electrostatic fields near more complicated geometries, limitations on power transfer capability, corona onset and its effects, electromagnetic compatibility with other systems that share the transmission line right of way and grounding systems. The second is to show how the more general theory reduces to the theory commonly used by practicing engineers. This includes understanding both the physical and mathematical approximations made for simplified analysis. In describing these, some practical aspects of designing high voltage transmission lines are discussed. Included are discussions of why common transmission line topologies are used, the relation between electric fields and many design parameters, ampacity and sag calculations, and techniques for increasing power transfer capability. In the second edition of the book additional material has been added to help the reader understand why overhead lines are used, why they are designed the way they are and how they interact with systems that share the right of way.

Book Flexible AC Transmission Systems

Download or read book Flexible AC Transmission Systems written by Bjarne R. Andersen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Green Book offers the outstanding expertise of CIGRE professionals about Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) in one concise handbook. FACTS are used to enhance AC power networks, by providing fast control of power flows and AC voltage and AC phase angles. They can be used to defer the need for additional power lines, by controlling the power flow on lines to achieve maximum utilisation of the existing lines, and/or by improving the power quality, e.g. when large disturbing loads are connected to the network. This Green Book on FACTS provides comprehensive information about the use of Power Electronics for AC system control and for Power Quality Improvement in its over 1000 pages. This book has been written by experts in the field, who come from Transmission System Operators, Network owners, manufacturers, and consultants in this field. This Green Book on FACTS covers a large range of topics in its 6 sections, as follows: AC Systems Characteristics, AC network control using conventional means and AC network control using FACTS Controllers Technical Descriptions of all current FACTS controllers, power electronic Topologies for FACTS, SVCs, STATCOM, TCSC and the UPFC and its variations Application Examples of all FACTS controllers, which include a description of controllers using saturation of iron as well as examples of all current FACTS controllers Planning and Procurement, including economic appraisals and cost benefit analysis, planning studies, environmental considerations, functional specifications Implementation of FACTS controllers, including integration and design studies, equipment design and testing and commissioning FACTS operation and lifetime management.

Book Electrical Codes Standards Recommended Practices and Regulations

Download or read book Electrical Codes Standards Recommended Practices and Regulations written by Robert J. Alonzo and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2009-12-21 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical codes, standards, recommended practices and regulations can be complex subjects, yet are essential in both electrical design and life safety issues. This book demystifies their usage. It is a handbook of codes, standards, recommended practices and regulations in the United States involving electrical safety and design. Many engineers and electrical safety professionals may not be aware of all of those documents and their applicability. This book identifies those documents by category, allowing the ready and easy access to the relevant requirements. Because these documents may be updated on a regular basis, this book was written so that its information is not reliant on the latest edition or release of those codes, standards, recommended practices or regulations. No single document on the market today attempts to not only list the majority of relevant electrical design and safety codes, standards, recommended practices and regulations, but also explain their use and updating cycles. This book, one-stop-information-center for electrical engineers, electrical safety professionals, and designers, does. - Covers the codes, standards, recommended practices and regulations in the United States involving electrical safety and design, providing a comprehensive reference for engineers and electrical safety professionals - Documents are identified by category, enabling easy access to the relevant requirements - Not version-specific; information is not reliant on the latest edition or release of the codes, standards, recommended practices or regulations
