Book Ephesian Benchmarks Sit Walk Stand

Download or read book Ephesian Benchmarks Sit Walk Stand written by Brother B and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-06-25 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workbook looks at the biblical principles in the epistle to Ephesus that Watchman Nee first coined, "Sit, Walk, Stand". It is designed to help each believer grow to full maturity in Jesus Christ. Each new believer must first come to new life in Christ, after which begins a process of sitting. This is needed to help the new believer understand all that God in Jesus Christ has already done on our behalf. Next the believer takes this knowledge and begins to walk in a way pleasing to God. Finally, the end result is standing as a fully equipped soldier, using all of God's armor. But every believer has to come back and sit to learn more. A better, more productive walk is resumed. Finally, the believer is able to stand better equipped to battle with the enemy.

Book excerpt: God wants to speak to us In life, sometimes things arent as they seem. The harbor looks so peaceful, so comfortable, but is it? We search for satisfaction anchored in the harbor, but God has called us for a life of bold adventure out in the uncharted waters. In opposition, the world distracts us with the illusion that material possessions, prestigious titles, and superficial beauty will deliver satisfaction. This distraction creates an insatiable thirst for peace that cant be quenched without a close relationship with God. When we leave the seemingly safe confines of the harbor and explore the deep, life-giving waters, we find truth and fulfillment of our identities in Him. Reducing the distractions of our busy lives, while connecting with God and other believers in community, will transform and transport us to our God-given destinations. These revelations provide us the peace we have been seeking all along. Are you ready to answer the call?

Book Backpacking with the Saints

Download or read book Backpacking with the Saints written by Belden C. Lane and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2014-11-12 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carrying only basic camping equipment and a collection of the world's great spiritual writings, Belden C. Lane embarks on solitary spiritual treks through the Ozarks and across the American Southwest. For companions, he has only such teachers as Rumi, John of the Cross, Hildegard of Bingen, Dag Hammarskjöld, and Thomas Merton, and as he walks, he engages their writings with the natural wonders he encounters--Bell Mountain Wilderness with Søren Kierkegaard, Moonshine Hollow with Thich Nhat Hanh--demonstrating how being alone in the wild opens a rare view onto one's interior landscape, and how the saints' writings reveal the divine in nature. The discipline of backpacking, Lane shows, is a metaphor for a spiritual journey. Just as the wilderness offered revelations to the early Desert Christians, backpacking hones crucial spiritual skills: paying attention, traveling light, practicing silence, and exercising wonder. Lane engages the practice not only with a wide range of spiritual writings--Celtic, Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, and Sufi Muslim--but with the fascination of other lovers of the backcountry, from John Muir and Ed Abbey to Bill Plotkin and Cheryl Strayed. In this intimate and down-to-earth narrative, backpacking is shown to be a spiritual practice that allows the discovery of God amidst the beauty and unexpected terrors of nature. Adoration, Lane suggests, is the most appropriate human response to what we cannot explain, but have nonetheless learned to love. An enchanting narrative for Christians of all denominations, Backpacking with the Saints is an inspiring exploration of how solitude, simplicity, and mindfulness are illuminated and encouraged by the discipline of backcountry wandering, and of how the wilderness itself becomes a way of knowing-an ecology of the soul.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 Christian Book Award for New Author Named one of the top books of 2016 by John Piper's Desiring God ministry To experience why the gospel is good news and answer life’s most foundational questions about identity, destiny, and purpose, we must understand what it means to be united to Christ. If you are a Christian, the Bible says that Christ has united his life to yours, that you are now in Christ and Christ is in you. This almost unfathomable truth is the central theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Yet few Christians today experience or enjoy this reality. Union with Christ reveals the transformational power of this ancient doctrine while addressing the basic questions of the human heart: Who Am I? Why Am I Here? Where Am I Headed? How Will I Get There? Nothing is more practical for living the Christian life than union with Christ. The recovery of this reality provides the anchor and engine for your life with God—for your destiny is not only to see Christ, but to actually become like him.

Book Memoirs of an Unfinished Tale

Download or read book Memoirs of an Unfinished Tale written by Mark F. Whitters and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What if Luke had to reteach the basic lessons of his history of the early church? How would he communicate his point while livening up the details for someone who either was not present for the actual event or had not paid sufficient attention the first time he wrote Acts of the Apostles? This is Luke's resume for a younger and still eager Theophilus. He reenacts stories and replays events almost as a performance before the audience's eyes. He knows that history is not a dry memorization of facts nor a chain of events, but a compendium of vital lessons that guide growth and change. History unfolds as episodes, cohering around an intelligible theme with drama and suspense. Not unlike a play, it requires imaginative performance to both entertain and provoke an audience to react. This is a fresh way of presenting the Bible, a method based on a rapidly growing movement in college and university classrooms called "reacting." It is in line with more traditional ways of understanding Scripture as performed in the context of liturgy. At the same time this book challenges individuals with creative poems and illustrations and a built-in system of application questions for daily readings."

These articles touch on subjects such as soteriology, grace, worship, righteous living, and character studies of people such as Saul and David. The overall intent of the book is to inform and inspire believers to live righteously before God.
