Download or read book Methods of Enzymatic Analysis written by Hans-UIrich Bergmeyer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1093 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of Enzymatic Analysis focuses on the general progress in enzymology and in the special field of enzymatic analysis. This book explores the commercial production of biochemical reagents for analysis and explains the transition from the possible use of enzymatic analysis to its various applications in pure and applied biochemistry. Organized into four sections, this book starts with an overview of the basis of enzymatic analysis and provides general experimental guidelines for the techniques of measurement and for the disintegration of cells and tissues. This text then provides detailed instructions for the determination of substrates and assay of enzyme activities. Other chapters explore the practical aspects and information necessary for the application of reagents to enzymatic analysis, including sources, stability, and purity required. The final section describes the commercially available enzymes, coenzymes, substrates, and several less common reagents. Biochemists, biophysicists, researchers, and graduate students will find this book extremely useful.
Download or read book Enzymes in Blood Plasma written by Benno Hess and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzymes in Blood Plasma gives a comprehensive account of the current state of research and practical application of biochemistry and biology, as well as the pathology and clinical aspects of plasma enzymes. Enzymes in blood plasma, for reasons of principle and methods, are not limited to plasma-specific enzymes, which are only briefly mentioned. Emphasis will rather be placed on plasma-nonspecific enzymes, i.e., enzymes of identical properties in plasma and serum. Their action is, for technical reasons, generally determined in serum. The enzymes in plasma will be stressed in this presentation, but the situation in other extracellular spaces and even extracorporeal areas such as urine, excreta, and feces will be included. There exists no basic difference of enzyme function in these biological areas. Many of the findings reported in this volume were obtained with the old units and methods, rather than the International Unit. For this reason, the section dealing with methods includes a table for conversion, which can be used for comparison of data, insofar as these data were obtained under optimalconditions of measurement.
Download or read book Enzymes in Clinical Chemistry written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzymes in Clinical Chemistry presents the proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Enzymes in Clinical Chemistry, held in Ghent, Belgium, on April 14–16, 1961. This book provides information pertinent to the application of enzymes in clinical chemistry. Organized into 16 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the alterations to serum and plasma enzymes that represent subtle protein modifications associated with disease states. This text then provides a comparison of the Michaelis constants of particular tissue alkaline phophotases with those of serum alkaline phosphotase from several pathological states. Other chapters consider the origin of metabolic changes in leucocytes, including the genetic metabolic defects, the intrinsic disturbances arising in leucocytes themselves, and the blood metabolite or hormone concentrations. This book discusses as well the action of amine oxidases. This book is a valuable resource for clinical chemists, chemical pathologists, enzymologists, scientists, research workers, and students.

Download or read book Regulation of Gluconeogenesis written by Hans-Dieter Söling and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation of Gluconeogenesis documents the proceedings of 9th Conference of the Gesellschaft für Biologische Chemie. This meeting was first planned as a continuation of a former Conference of the Gesellschaft für Biologische Chemie on ""Stoffwechsel der isoliert perfundierten Leber"". However, the organizers of the present meeting decided that it seemed far more reasonable to restrict the subject to a special biochemical problem than to a technical procedure which had not changed very much during the last years. This volume contains 24 chapters and begins with a paper that identifies the substrates, activators, and inhibitors which may influence the rate of reaction of pyruvate carboxylase from liver. Other papers deal with topics such as purification and properties of pyruvate carboxylase from rat liver; the location of pyruvate carboxylase in mitochondria; effects of quinolinic acid on the free and total nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotides of rat liver; and effects of biguanides on gluconeogenesis in rats and guinea pigs.
