Book Environmental Sustainability as Factor for Mega Sport Event Support

Download or read book Environmental Sustainability as Factor for Mega Sport Event Support written by Ine Hugaerts and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental sustainability (ES) has generally become an important topic in recent years. In this context, interest in the environmental impact of sport events has also considerably grown. However, not much is known about how people currently perceive ES in mega sport events (MSEs) and if this influences their support to stage a MSE in their home country. To shed light on this question, a survey was conducted in Germany, which resulted in a sample of 917 respondents. The data show that about one-third of them think that ES is adequately implemented in the Olympic Games and the Football World Cup. Around half of the respondents state they are in favour of hosting these events in Germany in the future and multinomial logistic regressions reveal that positive and negative perceptions of the ES of the events are important predictors of support and opposition.

Book Overview of Sustainable Solutions to Improve the Environmental Impacts of Mega Sporting Events

Download or read book Overview of Sustainable Solutions to Improve the Environmental Impacts of Mega Sporting Events written by Tina Pourpakdelfekr and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Olympic Committee, as the main sports organization in the world, has several criteria for handing over the Olympic Games to the host city. One of the most critical concerns in hosting sports events is paying attention to environmental aspects and sustainable development. In fact, the applicant cities must have practical environmental goals and action plans. Basically, the host cities have made significant initiatives to improve the environment in previous Olympic Games, but according to the data and studies, this major sporting event has also had detrimental consequences on the environment. Given the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection, this study examines the negative impacts of mega-sporting events on the environment. Therefore data were collected from qualitative interviews, library studies, and previous research. Fifteen experts in the sports and environment field were selected as a sample by snowball distribution method and the interview steps were performed until the theoretical saturation was reached (20-40 min in 3 sessions).

Book Residents Perceptions of Environmental Impacts of the 2008 Beijing Green Olympic Games

Download or read book Residents Perceptions of Environmental Impacts of the 2008 Beijing Green Olympic Games written by Liyan Jin and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: The significance of environmental sustainability has been widely recognized throughout the world. The Olympic Games, which aim to serve the harmonious development of human dignity, have integrated the environment as a third dimension along with sport and culture since 1996. The purpose of the study was to explore the level of awareness of Beijing Green Olympic Initiatives, perceived environmental impact, attitude toward the Olympic Games, behavioral intentions to support future hosting of mega sport events, and actual behavior among residents in Beijing as the host city of Olympic Games during the post-game management period. The Yale attitude change approach, the theory of reasoned action, and the social exchange theory served as the theoretical foundation for this study to examine the relationship among awareness, perception, attitude, behavior intention and actual behavior. As a result of the Zero-order correlation analysis, significant relationships were found among perception factors, attitudinal factors, behavioral intention factors, and actual behavior factors. The Hierarchical regression analyses for actual behaviors of supporting mega sport events showed that the behavioral intention and attitude factors presented mediating effects, while awareness was not found to be predictive of actual behaviors of mega sport events.

This book offers an unprecedented resource for sports practitioners and researchers. It provides a wealth of data based on the study of existing scholarly literature, key strategic and conceptual documents as well as exclusive interviews with high-level executives involved in the organization of EURO 2008.

Book After the Gold Rush

Download or read book After the Gold Rush written by Anthony Vigor and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Olympic Games always generates a great deal of enthusiasm and expectation. Hosting the greatest show on earth is seen by some as a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide new infrastructure and deliver benefits to local residents and communities. Those organising the London 2012 bid are no different, claiming a Games would deliver a legacy of new sporting facilities, thousands of new jobs, new businesses, a step-change in the nation s physical activity and ultimately a transformation of the East End of London. But an analysis of past Games reveals that there is no automatic Olympic dividend, with the benefits often failing to flow to the people and places most in need. What is clear is that those cities that have secured a more sustainable legacy, have embedded the Olympics within a broader urban strategy. The challenge for London is to integrate the preparation for and hosting of the Games into a broader social policy agenda from the outset. The contributors to this report analyse the challenges facing the organisers and offer a practical vision for a London Games which brings a sustainable legacy for employment, sport, culture, the environment and local communities.
