Book excerpt: The term "Child Theology" is a 21st century invention. But the substance of Child Theology is as old as the Good News of Jesus. When his disciples were making serious mistakes in their theological argument about greatness in the Kingdom of God, he placed a child among them. In June 2002 a group of Christians met in Penang, Malaysia to explore what was meant by "Child Theology." One of the outcomes was the request for a book on the subject. Entry Point is the book! It is not an attempt to define the shape and content of Child Theology, but rather a record of a pioneering trip into largely uncharted territory which invites readers to explore what it might mean to receive this child as: a challenge to radical conversion, a clue to the truth about the kingdom of God, a reminder that following Jesus into the kingdom means denying self and taking up the cross, an encouragement to live in the resilience of resurrection, a helper in making universal community with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Book excerpt: There is a wide consensus that furfural, a renewable commodity currently obtained from lignocellulosic agro-residues with a production volume of around 300 kTon per year, is a key feedstock for leveraging lignocellulosic residues in future biorefineries. Several chemicals are already being manufactured from furfural due to its advantageous production cost. Furthermore, a vast number of others are also technically viable, to produce from oil. This book compiles the vast existing information into relevant stages of transformations of furfural as renewable chemicals, biofuels and bioresins focusing on the relevant chemical and engineering aspects of processes to obtain them, including reactors and catalysis. It offers essential information for improving the economic and environmental viability of current commercial applications and upcoming future applications. It should be of particular interests to graduate and advanced undergraduate students, as well as, engineers and academic researchers alike who are working in the field.

Book excerpt: Providing a lively snapshot of the state of art and social justice today on a global level, Entry Points accompanies the inaugural Vera List Center Prize for Art and Politics, launched at The New School on the occasion of the center’s twentieth anniversary. This book captures some of the most significant worldwide examples of art and social justice and introduces an interested audience of artists, policy makers, scholars, and writers to new ways of thinking about how justice is defined, advanced, and practiced through the arts. In so doing, it assembles some of the latest scholarship in this field while refining our vocabulary for speaking about social justice, social engagement, community enhancement, empowerment, and even art itself. The book's first half contains three essays by Thomas Keenan, João Ribas, and Sharon Sliwinski that map the field of art and social justice. These essays are accompanied by more than twenty profiles of recent artist projects that consist of brief essays and artist pages. This curated and carefully considered map of artists and projects identifies key moments in art and social justice. The book's second half consists of an in-depth analysis of Theaster Gates's The Dorchester Projects, which won the inaugural Vera List Prize for Art and Politics. Produced to complement the project’s exhibition at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons School of Design in September 2013, this analysis illuminates Gates's rich, complex, and exemplary work. This section includes an interview between Gates and Vera List Center director Carin Kuoni; essays by Horace D. Ballard Jr., Romi N. Crawford, Shannon Jackson, and Mabel O. Wilson; and a number of responses to The Dorchester Projects by faculty in departments across The New School. Published by Duke University Press and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School

Book Transition and Development in India

Download or read book Transition and Development in India written by Anjan Chakrabarti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Nehru, the transition from a backward agricultural society to a modern industrialized society was the only road for India to progress. So, for the past few decades, India has focused its transitional development around movement away from a state-controlled economy toward that of a free market economy. Transition and Development in India challenges the current basis of this theory of development, laying the groundwork for an entirely new Marxist approach to transition that should apply not just to India, but to all developing nations.

Book Tools for High Performance Computing 2015

Download or read book Tools for High Performance Computing 2015 written by Andreas Knüpfer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Performance Computing (HPC) remains a driver that offers huge potentials and benefits for science and society. However, a profound understanding of the computational matters and specialized software is needed to arrive at effective and efficient simulations. Dedicated software tools are important parts of the HPC software landscape, and support application developers. Even though a tool is by definition not a part of an application, but rather a supplemental piece of software, it can make a fundamental difference during the development of an application. Such tools aid application developers in the context of debugging, performance analysis, and code optimization, and therefore make a major contribution to the development of robust and efficient parallel software. This book introduces a selection of the tools presented and discussed at the 9th International Parallel Tools Workshop held in Dresden, Germany, September 2-3, 2015, which offered an established forum for discussing the latest advances in parallel tools.

Book excerpt: With calculated cunning, renegade Syrian intelligence operatives have discovered how to smuggle uranium-235—the key material required to manufacture an atomic weapon—into the United States undetected, exploiting a network of the most experienced and sophisticated smugglers the world has ever known. As the CIA repeatedly misinterprets numerous intelligence warnings, only Marta Pradilla—Colombia's beautiful, hard-minded new president—can assist the United States' conservative, isolationist President Stockman in finding the terrorists and their deadly cargo before it's too late. Set in Washington, D.C., Bogotá, Rome, and Tbilisi, and featuring a cast of major international figures, Point of Entry brings readers into an intensely treacherous world that reads less like fiction every day.
