Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microwave Tomography has many biomedical applications like brain imaging, temperature sensing in different biological tissues and breast cancer detection. In a microwave tomography system, a number of radiators are used to transmit microwave signal into the object under test and the scattered fields are recorded. The collected data is used to quantitatively reconstruct the dielectric profiles of the object under test through inverse scattering mechanism. It has been shown that by using wide band data, highly stable and high resolution constructions can be obtained that is why Ultra wideband Antennas are required in microwave tomography systems. In this book different microstrip patch antennas have been analysed for micowave tomography applications.

Book Resistively loaded Antenna Designs for Ultra wideband Confocal Microwave Imaging of Breast Cancer

Download or read book Resistively loaded Antenna Designs for Ultra wideband Confocal Microwave Imaging of Breast Cancer written by Houssam Kanj and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Motivated by this application and many other similar applications, such as biological sensing, through-wall imaging, ground-penetrating radars and fixed surveillance, this dissertation focuses on the design of an ultra-wideband (UWB) ultra-compact low-profile resistively-loaded antenna easily manufactured by standard printed circuit board (PCB) means with embedded passives. First, a planar antenna design, named "Dark Eyes", is presented. The antenna takes advantage of constant resistive loading in combination with favorable antenna geometry to achieve its broadband behavior. Second, the antenna is miniaturized to centimeter size while maintaining a comparable performance to that of the original one. Third, a complete microstrip-feed for the miniaturized "Dark Eyes" antenna is presented. Then, the antenna is studied in a cross-polarized arrangement for tumor detection and the advantage of this approach is demonstrated. Finally, a novel antenna design with an extremely broadband behavior and a very compact size is presented. This new design is simpler than the "Dark Eyes" antenna with an order of magnitude improved performance. Such a design is a key element in developing the multistatic microwave imaging system with a large number of cross-polarized antenna-elements." --

Download or read book Design of a UWB Coplanar Fed Antenna and Circular Miniature Printed Antenna for Medical Applications written by Adnane Latif and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breast cancer is the second deadly cancer for women; for more efficiency and an early detection, the biomedical field need new systems that should be safe, comfortable, and sensible. The medical field already has its methods to detect breast cancer. In this chapter, a new ultra-wide band (UWB) planar antenna is presented for microwave imaging, the antenna is designed to operate in a frequency band from 2.9-10.8GHz. The antenna was designed to be adaptable for multi-viewing imaging due to it simple form, low cost and ease to be manufactured. The simulation results of the new ultra large band antenna and a performance comparison with other UWB antennas. We also offer a circular miniature printed antenna that satisfies the UWB characteristics in terms of bandwidth and reflection coefficient. This antenna is intended for a system for detecting malignant tumors by microwave imaging. The antenna made has a patch on a FR-4 type substrate with Œμr = 4,3, thickness h =1.575 mm and dimensions ls = 25 mm, and ws = 25 mm. A rectangular slot is inserted on the radiating element ensuring its miniaturization. The latter is powered by a microstrip line width wm with matching impedance at 50 Ohm.

Book Microwave Imaging for Early Breast Cancer Detection

Download or read book Microwave Imaging for Early Breast Cancer Detection written by Yoshihiko Kuwahara and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We overview the research trend on microwave imaging for early breast cancer detection. The technologies have two categories: ultra-wide band (UWB) radar that reconstructs the scattering power distribution in the breast and inverse scattering problem that reconstructs the dielectric properties distribution. We have developed a clinical equipment using UWB radar and carried out clinical test 4 years ago. Through the experiments, we concluded that the UWB radar was insufficient for the clinical equipment, because the UWB radar cannot discriminate cancerous tumor and other lesions. Therefore, we have been studying inverse scattering. It is a challenging task to develop an equipment using inverse scattering technologies. We have proposed a microwave mammography that has four features: (1) sensor with breast fixing by absorption, (2) small sensor with multipolarization, (3) image reconstruction program linking the commercial EM simulator, and (4) hybrid imaging method using UWB radar and inverse scattering.
