Book Practical Management of Pediatric Ocular Disorders and Strabismus

Download or read book Practical Management of Pediatric Ocular Disorders and Strabismus written by Elias Traboulsi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This case-based approach to the management of pediatric eye diseases and strabismus teaches the novice, as well as the experienced surgeon, how to conceptualize and analyze surgical planning to maximize patient outcomes, allowing readers to “get inside the head of the surgeon.” Individual cases with clear instructions and an abundance of color illustrations, presented by experts in the field, teach critical information one case at a time. Practical Management of Pediatric Ocular Disorders and Strabismus provides the key guiding principles of a traditional textbook in an easy-to-digest format. Each chapter of the text tackles a common or rare clinical situation and begins with the description of an illustrative case. The chapters are structured with sections on case description, differential diagnosis, management and outcomes with a list of possible complications and the approach to their management.

Book Essentials of Bioinformatics Volume II

Download or read book Essentials of Bioinformatics Volume II written by Noor Ahmad Shaik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioinformatics is an integrative field of computer science, genetics, genomics, proteomics, and statistics, which has undoubtedly revolutionized the study of biology and medicine in past decades. It mainly assists in modeling, predicting and interpreting large multidimensional biological data by utilizing advanced computational methods. Despite its enormous potential, bioinformatics is not widely integrated into the academic curriculum as most life science students and researchers are still not equipped with the necessary knowledge to take advantage of this powerful tool. Hence, the primary purpose of our book is to supplement this unmet need by providing an easily accessible platform for students and researchers starting their career in life sciences. This book aims to avoid sophisticated computational algorithms and programming. Instead, it focuses on simple DIY analysis and interpretation of biological data with personal computers. Our belief is that once the beginners acquire these basic skillsets, they will be able to handle most of the bioinformatics tools for their research work and to better understand their experimental outcomes. Our second title of this volume set In Silico Life Sciences: Medicine provides hands-on experience in analyzing high throughput molecular data for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of monogenic or polygenic human diseases. The key concepts in this volume include risk factor assessment, genetic tests and result interpretation, personalized medicine, and drug discovery. This volume is expected to train readers in both single and multi-dimensional biological analysis using open data sets, and provides a unique learning experience through clinical scenarios and case studies.

Book The Archaeomusicology of the Ancient Near East

Download or read book The Archaeomusicology of the Ancient Near East written by Richard J. Dumbrill and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This volume is a massive leap forward over any previous synthesis of the subject and includes at the very minimum so much information that its academic and scientific value is self evident. The freshness and profundity of Dumbrill's approach to the subject exceeds anything attempted before. 'The mythology of ancient Mesopotamia proves readable as tonal allegory when its numerology is decoded as tuning theory. By the third millennium BC both pentatonic and heptatonic tunings were quantified throughout the entire 12-tone gamut. Richard Dumbrill has documented the massive empirical experience with strings and pipes that makes this early musicalization of the universe believable.' The volume consists in 4 parts with foreword by Prof. Ernest McClain. The first is about the decipherment, translation and interpretation of the few theoretical cuneiform texts dating from the Old Babylonian period, about 2000 BC, to Neo Assyrian up to the mid first millennium BC. Dumbrill undertakes comparative analyses and criticism of various interpretations having preceded his own and introduces new material. The second part is about the Hurrian hymns, the earliest music ever written, circa 1400 BC, and are produced in their integrality. Attempts to the interpretation of Hymn H.6 are compared and followed by Dumbrill's methodology and interpretation. Each fragment of the collection is analyzed separately. The part concludes with statistical analyses attempting at the reconstruction of some Hurrian rules of composition. The third part consists in the organology with relevant philology and is the largest collection of the Mesopotamian instrumentarium. The last part is a unique lexicon of all known Mesopotamian terminology, with quotation of texts in which the philology appears. The book had been previously published under the title of 'The Musicology and Organology of the Ancient Near East' and now appears under its new title.

Download or read book Iceland written by Sabine Baring-Gould and published by Signal Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So begins Sabine Baring-Gould's account of his journey on horseback around Iceland in 1862. Aged twenty-eight, the young writer and teacher was fascinated by the tradition of the Icelandic sagas, and this was the catalyst for his adventure and the book that emerged from it. His voyage took him from the then tiny settlement of Reykjavik through remote and hostile terrain, passing through the empty expanse of Iceland's countryside. He observed mountains and glaciers, volcanoes and geysers, wondering at the wild beauty of the landscape. He also recorded the rich flora and fauna that he saw-and, to his chagrin, that his companions shot.
