Book Engineering Study to Adapt Sur fax to Photograph Flexible Airfield Pavements

Download or read book Engineering Study to Adapt Sur fax to Photograph Flexible Airfield Pavements written by AERO SERVICE CORP PHILADELPHIA PA. and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation and development program is re ported, conducted to modify or further develop the Sur/Fax system of pavement condition photog raphy so it would faithfully record in a form highly usable for analysis and record purposes, cracking, rutting, raveling, bleeding and such other flexible airfield pavement defects or characteristics as would be of interest to pave ment engineers of the Navy Bureau of Yards and Docks. In general, the investigation and development was concerned with such factors as film types, lighting, subject enhancement tech niques, vehicle speed, film travel, data reduc tion, positional control, and techniques for ob taining three-dimensional records. The indivi dual and combined effects of these factors were studied in the light of their providing a record of flexible pavement defects which was superior and more useful than the initial Sur/Fax record. The results of this investigation and develop ment program have led to the preliminary design of a modified Sur/Fax system which will secure the desired data on flexible airfield pts. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Leading the way describes how the men and women of Air Force civil engineering have provided the basing that enabled the Air Force to fly, fight, and win. This book depicts how engineers built hundreds of bases during World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. At the same time, these engineers operated and maintained a global network of enduring, peacetime bases. It describes the engineers' role in special projects such as the ballistic missile program, the Arctic early warning sites, and construction of the U.S. Air Force Academy. Using hundreds of sources, this detailed narrative tells the story of how civil engineers have been organized, trained, equipped, and employed for more than 100 years. From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, civil engineers have forged an unmatched record of success and built a solid foundation for today's Air Force."--Back cover.

Book Pavement Management for Airports Roads and Parking Lots

Download or read book Pavement Management for Airports Roads and Parking Lots written by M.Y. Shahin and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-08-31 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasizing sound, cost-effective management rather than emergency repairs, this comprehensive volume offers practical guidelines on evaluating and managing pavements for airports, roads, and parking lots. The author focuses on the implementation and maintenance of successful management strategies for both network and project levels, with repair techniques also described . Detailed chapters: 1) outline step-by-step procedures for project and network level pavement management 2) illustrate effective cost analysis and budget planning for pavement maintenance 3) guide the reader in the selection and use of non-destructive deflection, roughness measurement, and friction measurement equipment 4) present state-of-the-art pavement rehabilitation and condition prediction techniques 5) demonstrates the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) procedure for airfields and surfaced and unsurfaced roads. Extensive appendices serve as a field manual for identifying all types of pavement distress and their causes, and hundred of photographs facilitate accurate pavement evaluation. Civil and pavement engineers will find complete information on pavement inspection, evaluation, and management in this indispensable reference.

Book Pavement Design and Materials

Download or read book Pavement Design and Materials written by A. T. Papagiannakis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-02-22 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, state-of-the-art guide to pavement design and materials With innovations ranging from the advent of SuperpaveTM, the data generated by the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) project, to the recent release of the Mechanistic-Empirical pavement design guide developed under NCHRP Study 1-37A, the field of pavement engineering is experiencing significant development. Pavement Design and Materials is a practical reference for both students and practicing engineers that explores all the aspects of pavement engineering, including materials, analysis, design, evaluation, and economic analysis. Historically, numerous techniques have been applied by a multitude of jurisdictions dealing with roadway pavements. This book focuses on the best-established, currently applicable techniques available. Pavement Design and Materials offers complete coverage of: The characterization of traffic input The characterization of pavement bases/subgrades and aggregates Asphalt binder and asphalt concrete characterization Portland cement and concrete characterization Analysis of flexible and rigid pavements Pavement evaluation Environmental effects on pavements The design of flexible and rigid pavements Pavement rehabilitation Economic analysis of alternative pavement designs The coverage is accompanied by suggestions for software for implementing various analytical techniques described in these chapters. These tools are easily accessible through the book’s companion Web site, which is constantly updated to ensure that the reader finds the most up-to-date software available.

Book The Image of the City

Download or read book The Image of the City written by Kevin Lynch and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1964-06-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic work on the evaluation of city form. What does the city's form actually mean to the people who live there? What can the city planner do to make the city's image more vivid and memorable to the city dweller? To answer these questions, Mr. Lynch, supported by studies of Los Angeles, Boston, and Jersey City, formulates a new criterion—imageability—and shows its potential value as a guide for the building and rebuilding of cities. The wide scope of this study leads to an original and vital method for the evaluation of city form. The architect, the planner, and certainly the city dweller will all want to read this book.
