Book Formal Engineering for Industrial Software Development

Download or read book Formal Engineering for Industrial Software Development written by Shaoying Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In any serious engineering discipline, it would be unthinkable to construct a large system without having a precise notion of what is to be built and without verifying how the system is expected to function. Software engineering is no different in this respect. Formal methods involve the use of mathematical notation and calculus in software development; such methods are difficult to apply to large-scale systems with practical constraints (e.g., limited developer skills, time and budget restrictions, changing requirements). Here Liu claims that formal engineering methods may bridge this gap. He advocates the incorporation of mathematical notation into the software engineering process, thus substantially improving the rigor, comprehensibility and effectiveness of the methods commonly used in industry. This book provides an introduction to the SOFL (Structured Object-Oriented Formal Language) method that was designed and industry-tested by the author. Written in a style suitable for lecture courses or for use by professionals, there are numerous exercises and a significant real-world case study, so the readers are provided with all the knowledge and examples needed to successfully apply the method in their own projects.

Download or read book Elements of Industrial Engineering written by Mr. Ashok Keshav Karande and published by Sankalp Publication. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a basic, conceptual-level description of an Organization, Engineering management disciplines that overview of how a system is developed. For the Engineers, New joiners, Beginners, Graduates and project manager, it provides a basic framework to understand the meaning of different organizations, planning and assessing system development. Information in the book is from various sources, but main idea is generated through the practical experience of authors. The main aim to publish this book is to get the collective organizational information in one single book for the beginners, Technical and Non-technical employees.

Book Engineers and Industrial Growth

Download or read book Engineers and Industrial Growth written by Göran Ahlström and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-05-14 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using an economic-historical and comparative approach, this book, first published in 1982, studies the structure and development of the engineering profession in France, German, Sweden and England. Central issues include the number of engineers in a particular society, their education and fields of work after education, the social background of the engineer, their social standing, the role of the state in technical education, and the development and role of the engineering organisations in various respects. The study shows that in three of the four countries, engineers achieved professional status rapidly and became members of their country’s establishment. In the fourth, England, not only did properly qualified engineers enjoy a considerably lower social status, but in numbers they were far fewer than in other parts of Europe. The author discusses this inadequacy in terms of industrial output and development.

Book Engineers within a Local and Global Society

Download or read book Engineers within a Local and Global Society written by Caroline Baillie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers, Technology and Society presents topics intended to aid the practicing engineer in reflecting upon the nature and purpose of their own practice within the engineering profession and how that is related to and implicated in social, economic and political issues. The series will include external relations between engineering, economic systems and social and political practices, as well as power structures and working conditions within the organisation. In an increasingly competitive and hostile environment in which practicing engineers are forced to spend their lives fighting for higher profit margins, many engineers become despondent and often leave the profession just a few years after graduation. They do not feel they are engineering for those in need in the world but for a small minority who can pay. There are an increasing number of engineers in the workplace who feel dissatisfied with these issues but do not know where to begin to address them. It is hoped that these books will start a conversation in many parts of the world where diverse engineers are working. This introductory book of the series presents an overview of the key issues at stake. I consider how, as engineers, we might decide what is the right thing to do by exploring rights and notions of freedom and what these might mean in a world where we are, according to some, ‘training for compliance’. I consider engineering in the past and how it has been used to contribute to social contexts in the Western world as well as in developing countries. I look at our responsibility as engineers to learn from the past to enhance our understanding and take appropriate action related to contemporary industrial development and globalization. Finally, I present a case study of my own engineering for others to critique. Practicing what you preach is never easy and living as a just engineer presents many challenges. As Ursula Franklin states clearly in her Massey lectures which I discuss in chapter 1, engineers have choices; it is up to us to ensure that we are aware of the way in which our engineering practice contributes to global social, economic and political issues so that we are able to make response – able choices.

Book Systems Engineering and Its Application to Industrial Product Development

Download or read book Systems Engineering and Its Application to Industrial Product Development written by Eugenio Brusa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mastering the complexity of innovative systems is a challenging aspect of design and product development. Only a systematic approach can help to embed an increasing degree of smartness in devices and machines, allowing them to adapt to variable conditions or harsh environments. At the same time, customer needs have to be identified before they can be translated into consistent technical requirements. The field of Systems Engineering provides a method, a process, suitable tools and languages to cope with the complexity of various systems such as motor vehicles, robots, railways systems, aircraft and spacecraft, smart manufacturing systems, microsystems, and bio-inspired devices. It makes it possible to trace the entire product lifecycle, by ensuring that requirements are matched to system functions, and functions are matched to components and subsystems, down to the level of assembled parts. This book discusses how Systems Engineering can be suitably deployed and how its benefits are currently being exploited by Product Lifecycle Management. It investigates the fundamentals of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) through a general introduction to this topic and provides two examples of real systems, helping readers understand how these tools are used. The first, which involves the mechatronics of industrial systems, serves to reinforce the main content of the book, while the second describes an industrial implementation of the MBSE tools in the context of developing the on-board systems of a commercial aircraft.
