Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal combustion engine is one of beautiful engineering knowledge in engineering scope. Internal combustion consists of two type categories which are Spark Ignition (SI) and Compression Ignition (CI). Based on internal combustion engine, a lot of research can be done to improve the performance of engine, fuel consumption, and emission. One of the researches is Experiment and Analysis of Intake Design for Single Cylinder Engine. The main objective is to study the variable design length to increase the performance of the engine. The second is to obtain high power and torque at low speed of engine (rpm) based on the change of intake parameter. The experiment is handle by utilize the Eddy Current Dynamometer 15kW. There are two difference length of intake pipeline which is 52mm and 73mm. the length that change are from 90 degree angle until joining of intake pipe. Before undergo the experiment, test rig of the engine need to fabricate because the engine that use is difference from previous experiment of dynamometer. To fabricate the test rig, four elements involve which are sketching, designing, analysis, and fabrication. These experiments consist of three different result which is baseline graph, length of intake 52mm and length of intake 73mm. The graphs are plot for power and torque graph versus speed of engine. When there are changes of the length of the intake pipe, the torque graph will be change according to the difference length. The increasing of the length, the result of torque and power graph will be more improve. But there are limit to make sure the intake pipe length not give bad impact to the engine. The result concluded that, the better length of intake pipe is the longer one which is 73mm and this result can be applied to student formula race.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technology involved in lubrication by nanoparticles is a rapidly developing scientific area and one that has been watched with interest for the past ten years. Nanolubrication offers a solution to many problems associated with traditional lubricants that contain sulphur and phosphorus; and though for some time the production of nanoparticles was restricted by the technologies available, today synthesis methods have been improved to such a level that it is possible to produce large quantities relatively cheaply and efficiently. Nanolubricants develops a new concept of lubrication, based on these nanoparticles, and along with the authors’ own research it synthesises the information available on the topic of nanolubrication from existing literature and presents it in a concise form. Describes the many advantages and potential applications of nanotechnology in the tribological field. Offers a full review of the state-of-the-art as well as much original research that is yet unpublished. Includes sections on boundary lubrication by colloïdal systems, nanolubricants made of metal dichalcogenides, carbon-based nanolubricants, overbased detergent salts, nanolubricants made of metals and boron-based solid nanolubricants and lubrication additives. Authored by highly regarded experts in the field with contributions from leading international academics. Book Design and Simulation of a Single Cylinder High Speed Spark Ignition Linear Engine with Spring System

Download or read book Design and Simulation of a Single Cylinder High Speed Spark Ignition Linear Engine with Spring System written by Aguk Zuhdi Muhammad Fathallah and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with the design of a single cylinder high-speed spark ignition linear engine with a spring system return cycle. The main objective of the research is to design and analyse a free piston linear engine that is easy to start, easy to maintain and easy to control. The unique design of the spring as a return cycle in a free piston linear engine is presented and its effects on engine performance and motion are discussed. The engine performance has been predicted the aim is to design a linear engine particularly for the spring system. The spring design has been optimised by using a multilevel optimization approach. Based on the optimisation of the spring design, the linear engine geometry design has been conducted. The performance of the linear engine design has been measured and the results compared with the predicted performance. Besides which the motion of the linear engine has been studied; however, friction affect show the rotated of the piston. It is necessary to modify the spring mechanism to ensure that the scavenging process works properly. Two scenarios such as the removal of the bottom part of the piston skirt and adding a lock to the connecting rod are recommended, based of structural stress and thermal-structural stress analysis. Software has been used in the research to analyse the design of the free piston linear engine with a spring system, including GT-Power, SolidWorks, Matlab, Algor, and Spread-Sheet. The model has been built using GT-Power to predict the engine performance. To validate the model, it has been assessed with the original engine manual and experimentally. Three step multilevel optimisation of the spring geometry has been carried out by using Matlab and Spread-Sheet. SolidWorks has been used to design all of the components and for the assembly of the linear engine. Cosmos motion, which is a part of the SolidWorks facility, has been used to analyse the piston dynamics of the linear engine. Once again, GT-Power has been used to analyse the effect of the spring design on the linear engine performance. For the modification of the design of the spring system, Algor has been used to analyse the thermal-structural stress of the piston and the connecting rod. Through step by step considerations started from building model to predict the performance of linear engine, to optimize the spring geometry design then continued build the free piston linear engine with spring system including design, analyses and modified. The result is a design which predicts the performance and the dynamics of piston motion. Only 50% of the 12 speeds sampled worked correctly. The rotation of the piston on the Z-ordinate can be fixed through modification of the piston or connecting rod. A design of a single cylinder high-speed spark ignition linear engine with spring system as return cycle has been carried out. Although the range of speeds was narrow compared to a conventional engine, the maximum power output is still higher. The final design result was 1.03 kW at 3.6 m/sec.

Book Cylinder by Cylinder Engine Modeling of Single Cylinder 4 Stroke Engine for Control System Development

Download or read book Cylinder by Cylinder Engine Modeling of Single Cylinder 4 Stroke Engine for Control System Development written by Hasfazri Abdul Rahman and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this thesis is to design and simulate cylinder by cylinder engine model for control oriented study based on single cylinder four stroke engines, which combines both physical formulae, such as engine geometries, and empirical formulae. The engine performance, torque and power is calculated by integrating the pressure inside cylinder within one engine cycle. The importance of this study is to predict the engine performance parameters such as indicated work, brake power, and torque that provided with air fuel ratio data and detail geometrical specifications. The model of FZ150i full engine specifications is used for simulation in order to predict the engine performance. The model is simulated between 2000 to 6000 rpm of engine speed range. From this simulation, the result shows that it is almost same with the experimental data by Sitthiracha (2006). Without build the real engine, all the engine performance parameter can be calculated from this simulation, and reduced the time and cost.

Book Automotive Fuels Reference Book

Download or read book Automotive Fuels Reference Book written by Paul Richards and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 870 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first two editions of this title, published by SAE International in 1990 and 1995, have been best-selling definitive references for those needing technical information about automotive fuels. This long-awaited new edition has been thoroughly revised and updated, yet retains the original fundamental fuels information that readers find so useful. This book is written for those with an interest in or a need to understand automotive fuels. Because automotive fuels can no longer be developed in isolation from the engines that will convert the fuel into the power necessary to drive our automobiles, knowledge of automotive fuels will also be essential to those working with automotive engines. Small quantities of fuel additives increasingly play an important role in bridging the gap that often exists between fuel that can easily be produced and fuel that is needed by the ever-more sophisticated automotive engine. This book pulls together in a single, extensively referenced volume, the three different but related topics of automotive fuels, fuel additives, and engines, and shows how all three areas work together. It includes a brief history of automotive fuels development, followed by chapters on automotive fuels manufacture from crude oil and other fossil sources. One chapter is dedicated to the manufacture of automotive fuels and fuel blending components from renewable sources. The safe handling, transport, and storage of fuels, from all sources, are covered. New combustion systems to achieve reduced emissions and increased efficiency are discussed, and the way in which the fuels’ physical and chemical characteristics affect these combustion processes and the emissions produced are included. There is also discussion on engine fuel system development and how these different systems affect the corresponding fuel requirements. Because the book is for a global market, fuel system technologies that only exist in the legacy fleet in some markets are included. The way in which fuel requirements are developed and specified is discussed. This covers test methods from simple laboratory bench tests, through engine testing, and long-term test procedures.
