The world geopolitical situation, which was already hot with the Ukraine vs Russia war, is now getting hotter with the outbreak of the Hamas vs Israel military confrontation. At the time this article was written, around 8,000 people had died in this conflict, most of whom were civilians in Gaza. Israel imposed “collective punishment” by dropping thousands of bombs on the narrow, densely populated area to destroy Hamas bases. In this asymmetric war, the biggest victims are not Hamas fighters, but Palestinian civilians. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not a simple conflict. Apart from the territorial dispute between the two nations being quite complicated, the involvement of many other countries makes this conflict in the Middle East not easy to resolve. In addition to military confrontations such as Ukraine vs Russia and Hamas vs Israel, there is secretly other battle going on. This is not a battle with military force but a technological and trade war between the United States and China. This conflict is popularly referred to as the “chip war.” This small chip turns out to have very strategic value. Now you could say that all electronic devices produced throughout the world involve the use of chips or semiconductor technology. In fact, the application of future technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), really requires various sophisticated chips. So, this “chip war” is not just an ordinary US vs China conflict but a conflict with global dimensions. This “chip war” will affect various aspects of life in other countries. For those of you who are interested in defense technology, we provide articles about various weapons used by Israel and Hamas in their recent military confrontations. When this article was written, fighting was continuing so it is possible that there are still other types of weapons that will be used by both parties. We hope that Armory Reborn friends can enjoy all these articles. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief
Download or read book MAJALAH DIGITAL ARMORY REBORN 33 EN written by ARMORY REBORN and published by PT. ARMORY REBORN INDONESIA. This book was released on with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Happy to meet again, Armory Reborn friends! May you all always be healthy, happy and enthusiastic. This September is a special month. Indonesia is hosting the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, 5-7 September 2023. As Chair of ASEAN this year, Indonesia carries the theme ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth. This theme underlines ASEAN's important role for the regional and world economy. This ASEAN Summit was not only attended by ASEAN leaders. But also present were the leaders of partner countries, such as China, India, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, the Russian Federation and the United States. Last August, President Jokowi also attended the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, Indonesia still seems to be considering the pros and cons of joining BRICS. Indonesia's position is increasingly central in world economics and geopolitics. Indonesia's central position in the Southeast Asia region is related to the legacy that US President Joe Biden will leave behind. The US presidential election will take place in 2024. However, as his term draws to a close, Biden still has not demonstrated a solid strategy to attract many Asian countries, especially Southeast Asia, to the US camp. In the economic realm, the US does not have an effective strategy to counter China's influence in Southeast Asian countries. US hegemony also faces serious challenges with the increasing multipolar world order, namely the BRICS. Meanwhile, Indonesia is currently facing a potential crisis that must be mitigated, namely the rice crisis. India's action to stop rice exports, coupled with a decrease in food production due to the El Nino phenomenon and climate change in Southeast Asian countries, could threaten Indonesia's food security. For those of you who are fond of weapons technology, we provide articles about the various combat aircraft that will be acquired by Indonesia, such as the Rafale and F-15EX. These 4.5 generation aircraft are compared to the F-35 Lightning II, the 5.0 generation aircraft that is the US mainstay. Apart from that, there are other articles. For example, an article about the United States election. There is an assessment of Republican Party cadres who might run and compete in the US presidential election. We hope that Armory, Reborn friends can enjoy it. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalisation is more complex than ever. The effects of the global financial crisis and increased inequality have spurred anti-globalisation sentiment in many countries and encouraged the adoption of populist and inward-looking policies. This has led to some surprising results: Duterte, Brexit and Trump, to name a few. In Indonesia, the disappointment with globalisation has led to rising protectionism, a rejection of foreign interference in the name of nationalism, and economic policies dominated by calls for self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, human trafficking and the abuse of migrant workers show the dark side of globalisation. In this volume, leading experts explore key issues around globalisation, nationalism and sovereignty in Indonesia. Topics include the history of Indonesia’s engagement with the world, Indonesia’s stance on the South China Sea and the re-emergence of nationalism. The book also examines the impact of globalisation on poverty and inequality, labour markets and people, especially women.

Download or read book Resource Nationalism in Indonesia written by Eve Warburton and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2023-11-15 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Resource Nationalism in Indonesia, Eve Warburton traces nationalist policy trajectories in Indonesia back to the preferences of big local business interests. Commodity booms often prompt more nationalist policy styles in resource-rich countries. Usually, this nationalist push weakens once a boom is over. But in Indonesia, a major global exporter of coal, palm oil, nickel, and other minerals, the intensity of nationalist policy interventions increased after the early twenty-first-century commodity boom came to an end. Equally puzzling, the state applied nationalist policies unevenly across the land and resource sectors. Resource Nationalism in Indonesia explains these trends by examining the economic and political benefits that accrue to domestic business actors when commodity prices soar. Warburton shows how the centrality of patronage to Indonesia's democratic political economy, and the growing importance of mining and palm oil as drivers of export earnings, enhanced both the instrumental and structural power of major domestic companies, giving them new influence over the direction of nationalist change.
