Book Handbook of Proteolytic Enzymes Volume 1

Download or read book Handbook of Proteolytic Enzymes Volume 1 written by Alan J. Barrett and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Proteolytic Enzymes, Second Edition, Volume 1: Aspartic and Metallo Peptidases is a compilation of numerous progressive research studies on proteolytic enzymes. This edition is organized into two main sections encompassing 328 chapters. This handbook is organized around a system for the classification of peptidases, which is a hierarchical one built on the concepts of catalytic type, clan, family and peptidase. The concept of catalytic type of a peptidase depends upon the chemical nature of the groups responsible for catalysis. The recognized catalytic types are aspartic, cysteine, metallo, serine, threonine, and the unclassified enzymes, while clans and families are groups of homologous peptidases. Homology at the level of a family of peptidases is shown by statistically significant relationship in amino acid sequence to a representative member called the type example, or to another member of the family that has already been shown to be related to the type example. Each chapter discusses the history, activity, specificity, structural chemistry, preparation, and biological aspects of the enzyme. This book will prove useful to enzyme chemists and researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specificity of Proteolysis presents a survey and conclusions on the action or proteinases - enzymes which are cleaving proteins or peptides. The specificity of proteinases which is determined as the sequence of amino acids at the cleavage site of a substrate, is an important criteria to choose an enzyme as tool in protein research. Whenever one is looking for an enzyme to act at a defined site or to give defined cleavage products one will find comprehensive information in this work. Comprehensive information about more than 280 endopeptidases which are based on the database LYSIS including a calculation program to determine cleavage sites, is given in the book.

Book Assay Development

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ge Wu
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2010-04-26
  • ISBN : 0470191155
  • Pages : 450 pages

Download or read book Assay Development written by Ge Wu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-04-26 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential principles and practice of assay development The first comprehensive, integrated treatment of the subject, Assay Development: Fundamentals and Practices covers the essentials and techniques involved in carrying out an assay project in either a biotechnology/drug discovery setting or a platform setting. Rather than attempting comprehensive coverage of all assay development technologies, the book introduces the most widely used assay development technologies and illustrates the art of assay development through a few commonly encountered biological targets in assay development (e.g., proteases, kinases, ion channels, and G protein-coupled receptors). Just enough biological background for these biological targets is provided so that the reader can follow the logics of assay development. Chapters discuss: The basics of assay development, including foundational concepts and applications Commonly used instrumental methods for both biochemical assays and cell-based assays Assay strategies for protein binding and enzymatic activity Cell-based assays High-throughput screening An in-depth study of the now popular Caliper's off-chip kinase assay provides an instructive, real-world example of the assay development process.

Book Biochemistry of Pulmonary Emphysema

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulmonary emphysema is a disease which develops because of a localized imbalance between endogenous proteinase inhibitors and proteinases leaking from neurophils during phagocytosis at inflammatory foci within the lung. This volume not only reviews at a biochemical level what is known about the natural inhibitors and proteinases involved in connective tissue destruction within the lung, but also suggests novel methodologies for reestablishing proper enzyme-inhibitor balance, including the use of natural or synthetic inhibitors for supplementation or gene therapy.

Book Current Topics in Cellular Regulation

Download or read book Current Topics in Cellular Regulation written by Bernard L. Horecker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Topics in Cellular Regulation: Volume 28 is a collection of papers that deals with enzyme-enzyme interactions, regulation of metabolic reaction pathways, the relevance of intracellular amino acid pool in the regulation of protein metabolism, and the production of superoxide by phagocytic leukocytes. Other papers discuss the regulation of adrenergic receptor function by phosphyrylation, a membrane-bound metallo-endopeptidase (meprin), as well as the covalent modification as a mechanism of marking proteins for degradation. One paper notes that the transfer pathway involving enzyme-enzyme recognition is associated with molecular specificity features over those demanded by the molecular structural constraints of the individual enzyme sites. The Albery and Knowles principle, under certain conditions, shows that intermediary metabolites within a particular pathway exist in states of nearly equal free energy. One paper describes that the amino acid pool size and content are governed by the conditioning of intracellular proteins and the metabolic activity of the cell. The paper also suggests that intracellular pools do not regulate protein metabolism. The collection can prove beneficial for biochemists, micro-biologists, cellular researchers, and academicians involved in the study of cellular biology or physiology.

Book Programmed Cell Death in Higher Plants
