Book Revolutionary Feminism

Download or read book Revolutionary Feminism written by Gary Kelly and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-06-10 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revolutionary feminism grew out of the cultural revolution that founded the modern state in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. That cultural revolution responded to the revolution in France, and at the center of both revolutions was the question of the rights and duties of women. Mary Wollstonecraft's mind and career were shaped in response to these revolutions, leading her to formulate a feminism for her time--revolutionary feminism. This book describes the growth of Wollstonecraft's mind and career, and examines all her writings as experiments in revolutionizing writing in terms of her revolutionary feminism.

Colour'd Shadows explains and interprets the physical forms of their books, the economics and politics of production and reception, and the cultural meanings of their literary work, showing how poems, literary annuals, engravings, commercial arrangements, the practices of women editors as well as writers, the politics of gender, the changing means of production, and women's literary relationships unfold in the medium of print and, more largely, the rapidly changing culture of the century.

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Saunders
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2023-02-28
  • ISBN : 1000884864
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Authorship and Copyright written by David Saunders and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, Authorship and Copyright traces the history of constructions of authorship as a legal reality. It offers an alternative to the two mainstream interpretations that have traditionally been assigned to authorship: the Romantic dialectical ‘birth of the author’ or the language-based post-structuralist ‘death of the author.’ Saunders examines the shortcomings of both schemes by arguing that they impose an arbitrary philosophical direction on the history of authorship and the law of copyright. Saunders addresses the issues relating to copyright and the construction of authorship as a legal status. Combining information and polemic, the author explores such matters as the historical and theoretical relations of copyright and the droit moral, the aestheticization of the law and the juridification of aesthetics, and the argument that authorship as a legal reality is a historically contingent and variable arrangement that cannot be separated from its cultural and juridical context. This book will be of interest to students of law, literature and philosophy.

Book The Struggle for the Soul of Journalism

Download or read book The Struggle for the Soul of Journalism written by Ronald R. Rodgers and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, Ronald R. Rodgers examines several narratives involving religion’s historical influence on the news ethic of journalism: its decades-long opposition to the Sunday newspaper as a vehicle of modernity that challenged the tradition of the Sabbath; the parallel attempt to create an advertising-driven Christian daily newspaper; and the ways in which religion—especially the powerful Social Gospel movement—pressured the press to become a moral agent. The digital disruption of the news media today has provoked a similar search for a news ethic that reflects a new era—for instance, in the debate about jettisoning the substrate of contemporary mainstream journalism, objectivity. But, Rodgers argues, before we begin to transform journalism’s present news ethic, we need to understand its foundation and formation in the past.

This book was released on 1971-07-02 with total page 1698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than fifty specialists have contributed to this new edition of volume 2 of The Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature. The task of the new contributors has been to revise and integrate the lists of 1940 and 1957, to add materials of the following decade, to correct and refine the bibliographical details already available, and to re-shape the whole according to a new series of conventions devised to give greater clarity and consistency to the entries.
