Book Encounters in the Word Volume 3

Download or read book Encounters in the Word Volume 3 written by John H Hill and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Something to think about - The Bible assures us that our God will never leave us, neither will He forsake us. It was the God of Israel who promised: "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." (Isaiah 43.2) This Almighty Creator God extended His love to the world through His Son Jesus Christ in whom, if any should believe, they would be saved and placed under the protective wings of His care. (John 3.16) The writer of the New Testament book to the Hebrews confirms this promise: "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13.5) Unbelievers (those who have not trusted in God's provision through Jesus Christ) have no promise of God's presence through any difficulty - they are on their own and left to their own devices. Believers suffer similar experiences while in the flesh because we are in the world - albeit, not of the world.

Book Church Doctrine Volume 3

  • Author : Paul C. McGlasson
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2015-10-02

Download or read book Church Doctrine Volume 3 written by Paul C. McGlasson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-02 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the third in a five-volume study of church doctrine. The multivolume set covers the major parts of church doctrine: Canon, God, Creation, Reconciliation, and Redemption. The first volume begins with an introduction to the entire project on why doctrine matters, which stresses the ecumenical, global, and above all biblical horizons of church doctrine as a primary expression of Christian witness. The second volume discusses the doctrine of God. The purpose of this third volume is to reaffirm the traditional church doctrine of Creation, and yet to do so in a way that submits that tradition to the overruling, overpowering authority of Scripture. God the Creator, according to the Bible, owns the entire universe; it does not belong to humankind. We live in service of his covenant of grace; but we do so along with our fellow creatures in a common vulnerability and finitude. The volume addresses the question of how the church doctrine of Creation speaks to the manifold ecological crisis of our time. Church doctrine is not a luxury but a necessity for the living community of faith, by which its witness in word and deed is tested against the one true measure of Christ the risen Lord.

Book Divine Encounters

Download or read book Divine Encounters written by Zecharia Sitchin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-03-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explains the links between the Bible and ancient Sumerian texts, probing the age-old question of the relationship between humanity and its creators. • Challenges scientific maxims of the basis of human life. • Draws fascinating parallels between the leaders of the Anunnaki (from the 12th planet) and Yahweh. • A comprehensive new look at the history of man. • First time available in hardcover. In Divine Encounters Zecharia Sitchin draws on basic Judeo-Christian texts to analyze the creation myths, paralleling Biblical stories to the myths of Sumer and Mesopotamia in order to show that humanity did not evolve without assistance. Sitchin daringly hypothesizes instead that Enki, one of the leaders of the Anunnaki from the 12th planet, created humanity as a "primitive worker." Furthermore, Sitchin suggests that the extraterrestrial encounters of today demonstrate the continued interest of the Anunnaki in the Earthlings they created.

Book An Intertextual Commentary on Romans Volume 3

Download or read book An Intertextual Commentary on Romans Volume 3 written by Channing L. Crisler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Intertextual Commentary on Romans is an exhaustive treatment of the hundreds of Old Testament citations, allusions, and echoes embedded in Paul’s most famous epistle. As many scholars have acknowledged, to understand Paul’s engagement with Israel’s Scriptures is to understand Romans. Despite this acknowledgment, there is a dearth of reference works in which the primary focus is how the Old Testament impacts Paul’s argument from Romans 1:1 to 16:27. This four-volume commentary aims to provide just such a reference. The interplay between Romans and its vast sea of Old Testament pre-texts produces unstated points of resonance that illuminate Paul’s rhetorical argument from the letter’s opening to its closing doxology. Volume 3 examines the scriptural pre-texts in Romans 9:1—11:36. This section of the letter is the most intertextually dense section of the New Testament and the most theologically controversial section in the entire Pauline corpus. If interpreters hope to navigate these exegetical and theological challenges, they must carefully analyze the intertextual subtext of these chapters where Paul engages Israel’s Scriptures at every rhetorical turn. This volume provides such an analysis. In this way, it also contributes to the commentary’s overarching aim, which is to provide scholars, interpreters, and students with verse by verse analysis of how Israel’s Scriptures impact almost every clause of Paul’s most famous letter.

Book Brief Encounters with the Enemy

Download or read book Brief Encounters with the Enemy written by Saïd Sayrafiezadeh and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2013 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An unnamed American city feeling the effects of a war waged far away and suffering from bad weather is the backdrop for this startling work of fiction. The protagonists are aimless young men going from one blue collar job to the next, or in a few cases, aspiring to middle management. Their everyday struggles--with women, with the morning commute, with a series of cruel bosses--are somehow transformed into storytelling that is both universally resonant and wonderfully uncanny. That is the unsettling, funny, and ultimately heartfelt originality of Saïd Sayrafiezadeh's short fiction, to be at home in a world not quite our own but with many, many lessons to offer us"--

Book Chinese Art and Its Encounter with the World

Download or read book Chinese Art and Its Encounter with the World written by David Clarke and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese Art and Its Encounter with the Worldexamines Chinese art from the mid-eighteenth century to the present, beginning with discussion of a Chinese portrait modeler from Canton who traveled to London in 1769, and ending with an analysis of art and visual culture in post-colonial Hong Kong. By means of a series of six closely-focused case studies, often deliberately introducing non-canonical or previously marginalized aspects of Chinese visual culture, it analyzes Chinese art's encounter with the broader world, and in particular with the West. Offering more than a simple charting of influences, it uncovers a pattern of richly mutual interchange between Chinese art and its others. Arguing that we cannot fully understand modern Chinese art without taking this expanded global context into account, it attempts to break down barriers between areas of art history which have hitherto largely been treated within separate and often nationally-conceived frames. Aware that issues of cultural difference need to be addressed by art historians as much as by artists, it represents a pioneering attempt to produce art historical writing which is truly global in approach. David Clarkeis Professor in the Department of Fine Arts, University of Hong Kong.

Book Volume 19 Tome II Kierkegaard Bibliography

Download or read book Volume 19 Tome II Kierkegaard Bibliography written by Peter Šajda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long tradition of Kierkegaard studies has made it impossible for individual scholars to have a complete overview of the vast field of Kierkegaard research. The large and ever increasing number of publications on Kierkegaard in the languages of the world can be simply bewildering even for experienced scholars. The present work constitutes a systematic bibliography which aims to help students and researchers navigate the seemingly endless mass of publications. The volume is divided into two large sections. Part I, which covers Tomes I-V, is dedicated to individual bibliographies organized according to specific language. This includes extensive bibliographies of works on Kierkegaard in some 41 different languages. Part II, which covers Tomes VI-VII, is dedicated to shorter, individual bibliographies organized according to specific figures who are in some way relevant for Kierkegaard. The goal has been to create the most exhaustive bibliography of Kierkegaard literature possible, and thus the bibliography is not limited to any specific time period but instead spans the entire history of Kierkegaard studies.
