Book Empowered for Global Mission Revised Version

Download or read book Empowered for Global Mission Revised Version written by Denzil R. Miller and published by Pneumalife Publications. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This may indeed the most helpful book you will read on the missional purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit." From the Foreword by Dr. John V. York. Why did Luke write the book of Acts? In Empowered for Global Mission, missionary author, Denzil R. Miller contends that Luke's primary intent for writing is found in Acts 1:8, the "interpretative key" to the entire book. Miller says that Luke, under the Spirit's direction, wrote to call the church of his day, and ultimately the church of our day, back to its Pentecostal and missionary beginnings. In proving this thesis, the author takes an in-depth look into the book, citing seven key outpourings of the Spirit in Acts and demonstrating how each contributes to the fulfilling of Luke's missionary and pneumatological purposes in writing. The author then proposes a "strategy of the Spirit" as revealed in the writings of Luke and Paul and offers it as a viable strategy for contemporary missions endeavor. Empowered for Global mission is a must read for anyone interested in the role of the Holy Spirit in missions work today.

Book excerpt: This book examines women's participation in the executive structures of the Basel Mission and Presbyterian Church in Cameroon in order to tell a new story of women and church leadership. In 1886, the Basel Mission commenced mission work in Cameroon and successfully established an indigenous church which gained independence in 1957 as Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC). In both churches, women were underrepresented in the echelons of power owing to entrenched patriarchy and recourse to controversial empowerment. Female missionaries to Cameroon trained women in fields like motherhood, domestic science and marriage, which yielded little or no opportunities for local women to participate in the power structures of the Basel Mission. This patriarchal culture was handed down to the PCC, whose initial all-male authority ensured that the power structure was all-male. But growing feminism within the church and pressure from international ecumenical partners led to timid gender reforms which ended women's exclusion from the ordained ministry, promoted female eldership, led to the establishment of a convent, and the adoption of a gender inclusive policy. But women's dearth in positions of leadership persisted, with most executive structures filled by men. So, this book tells the story of women's involvement in the executive structures of the Basel Mission and Presbyterian Church in Cameroon. It is the first effort at a holistic approach to interpreting women's lack of power in these two churches. Based upon archival research and oral sources, the book tells the story of the people, forces and events that led to the consistent underrepresentation of women in the churches' echelons of power. The lived realities of women who challenged patriarchy and held leadership positions in the church are illuminated. It documents the reality of women's lack of power, with particular focus on the dilemmas of female pastors, elders, nuns, and female Christian groups.

Download or read book Spirit Empowered Prayer written by Manny Carlos and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are longing for a deeper and more meaningful prayer life, one that is far more empowered by communion with God and far less dependent upon rules of discipline to sustain your devotion, then this could be the book for you. In Spirit-Empowered Prayer, Manny Carlos uses examples from the formative years of his spiritual life to make an inescapable point--regimens and resolutions to pray more faithfully, passionately, and effectively are alone insufficient to sustain spiritual disciplines. His initial efforts to follow various formulas of prayer echoed the apostle Paul's frustration in Romans 7--desiring to do one thing but lacking the power to accomplish it apart from the help of the Spirit. He builds on this theme of spiritual empowerment with a description of Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, whose rule of discipline was a retreat from the heavy burden of monastic rules to a full-time contemplation of the love of God and a radically simplified approach to spiritual disciplines. Communion with God and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit is the key--the only key--to genuine spiritual transformation. Spirit-Empowered Prayer serves as a practical guide to becoming a disciple fully engaged in Spirit-led prayer life. --- Manny Carlos serves as a bishop and the Chairman of Victory, Dean of Spiritual Life for Every Nation Seminary, and has been a pastor for over thirty years. He holds a doctor of ministry in Preaching and Leading from Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Mini, have four adult children, Jeremy, Daniel, Hannah, and Samuel.

Book excerpt: Does your church make you uncomfortable? It’s easy to dream about the “perfect” church—a church that sings just the right songs set to just the right music before the pastor preaches just the right sermon to a room filled with just the right mix of people who happen to agree with you on just about everything. Chances are your church doesn’t quite look like that. But what if instead of searching for a church that makes us comfortable, we learned to love our church, even when it’s challenging? What if some of the discomfort that we often experience is actually good for us? This book is a call to embrace the uncomfortable aspects of Christian community, whether that means believing difficult truths, pursuing difficult holiness, or loving difficult people—all for the sake of the gospel, God’s glory, and our joy.

Through all his research, one fact kept emerging: Pastors who focus on empowering others are recognized as the most effective in their ministry. Empowering Ministry distills the best information about cultivating an effective ministry stance from the voices of several hundred highly effective congregational leaders, offering readers the benefit of many lifetimes of pastoral experience. Smith deals extensively with how pastors empower others, as well as with how they have been and continue to be empowered themselves. The book offers a realistic look at life in the ministerial pressure cooker and confronts the issues of stress and burnout. Specific steps the reader can take to grow and nurture an effective ministry are included. Empowering Ministry is for pastors who are enriching their work, for the seminary student preparing for ministry, and for anyone working closely with their pastors in a quest for maximum pastoral effectiveness.

Book Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit

Download or read book Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit written by Brad Long and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is something crucial missing from your congregation's programs? Beneath the surface of churches' programs and activities lies the fundamental question of how leaders and churches can be enabled to discern and obediently cooperate with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This biblically grounded book asserts that many leaders overlook the necessary precondition of cooperating with the empowering will of the Holy Spirit before putting their plans into action. Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit is a highly practical guide for nurturing relations between believers and the Holy Spirit, a process facilitated by seven dynamics: Love that draws us into engagement Faith and obedience Receiving divine guidance Exercising spiritual discernment Welcoming the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit Intercessory prayer that shapes the future Seeing and responding to kairos moments Advanced by the church leadership and brought into being by the Holy Spirit, these factors help congregations preach and teach, worship, heal, govern, make disciples of converts, and evangelize.
