Book excerpt: Let's be real, getting a fulfilling job in S. Korea is a struggle, even more so in those troubled times. While an intricate blend of historical, economic and cultural obstacles can explain the hustle of job seeking here, we believe that there is also an obvious lack of reliable resources to guide and support the community of foreign professionals living in this beautiful land. That is the exact reason why we created Korea Professional in March 2020. To forge a sense of community and generate a valuable source of information, for job seekers, entrepreneurs, students or anybody aspiring to professional success. We first built a job seeking platform, called koreaprofessional.com, where we post fresh job offers in English, daily. Following the swift success of the platform, we committed to feed our audience with real life experience and expertise. We organized networking events where our community gets together and listen to HR experts and successful expats' insights while sharing tips and drinks. Download or read book Korean Labor Law Guide written by Sunny Lee and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-03-17 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding information on Korean labor law written in English is excruciatingly difficult. Any CEOs and HR managers who tried googling their questions on Korean labor law will understand what I mean. What they get after online searches are a bunch of websites that barely answer the questions. Even if there are relevant articles, they are often outdated and not detailed enough. I wrote this guide to address this lack of updated and relevant information in English with regard to Korean labor laws. Let me tell you briefly what you can get from this book. First, I summarize the most important rules of Korean labor laws governing work conditions. I focus on the the most important points of 10+ laws for work conditions. I only cover the matters that HR managers want to know. If you want to find the information in the book through online search, you should check out more than ten separate laws. However, lots of them have no English translation for the latest amendments. For example, the Labor Standards Act, the major labor law, has not been translated into English since 2014. Second, I explain all the information in plain English. I am not a fan of abstruse and complicated sentences. I did my best to get clear ideas of what is meant by the Korean texts of relevant laws and to explain them in plain English. Third, I quote titles and article numbers of relevant labor laws for all the sections in the book. Therefore, you can be sure that I am not making things up but faithfully conveying the information in the law. It is also useful for writing any inside HR report because you have the source to the information you find in the book. My book covers topics such as employment contract, work hours and overtime, ordinary wage, average wage, annual leave, holidays, social insurances, non-regular employees, dismissal, rules of employment, maternity leave, childcare leave, retirement benefits and more. About the author Sunny Lee is a freelance consultant specializing in labor laws of South Korea. As a consultant and certified public labor attorney, he has been giving advice on Korean labor laws to foreign CEOs and HR managers for the last fifteen years.

Book excerpt: An indispensable tool for librarians who do reference or collection management, this work is a pioneering offering of expertly selected print and electronic reference tools for East Asian Studies (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). Handbook for Asian Studies Specialists: A Guide to Research Materials and Collection Building Tools is the first work to cover reference works for the main Asian area languages of China, Japan, and Korea. Several leading Asian Studies librarians have contributed their many decades of experience to create a resource that gathers major reference titles—both print and online—that would be useful to today's Asian Studies librarian. Organized by language group, it offers useful information on the many subscription-based and open-source electronic tools relevant to Asian Studies. This book will serve as an essential resource for reference collections at academic libraries. Previously published bibliographies on materials deal with China or Japan or Korea, but none have coalesced information on all three countries into one work, or are written in English. And unlike the other resources available, this work provides the insight needed for librarians to make informed collection management decisions and reference selections.
