Book Emerson and New Thought

Download or read book Emerson and New Thought written by Ralph Waldo Emerson and published by DeVorss & Company. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EMERSON’S ESSAYS have become the signature writings of the famous American transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson. Not only did these essays turn heads and open eyes in the mid nineteenth century, but they are still doing the same today. His spiritual insights can be seen most profoundly in New Thought and the work of Ernest Holmes and the Science of Mind philosophy. So much so, that specific essays are required reading in New Thought introductory classes. One teacher who has earned the esteem of spiritual leaders throughout New Thought, Dr. Carol Carnes has now provided readers with the specific essays that influenced Ernest Holmes the most: SELF-RELIANCE, THE OVER-SOUL, SPIRITUAL LAWS, COMPENSATION, and CIRCLES. Each chapter includes an essay and Carol’s commentary along with her insightful questions for the reader. The entire book has been edited to allow each reader to easily understand and grasp these concepts on a personal level in the world of today.

Book excerpt: A fascinating look at India’s remarkable impact on Western culture, this eye-opening popular history shows how the ancient philosophy of Vedanta and the mind-body methods of Yoga have profoundly affected the worldview of millions of Americans and radically altered the religious landscape. What exploded in the 1960s, following the Beatles trip to India for an extended stay with their new guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, actually began more than two hundred years earlier, when the United States started importing knowledge--as well as tangy spices and colorful fabrics--from Asia. The first translations of Hindu texts found their way into the libraries of John Adams and Ralph Waldo Emerson. From there the ideas spread to Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and succeeding generations of receptive Americans, who absorbed India’s “science of consciousness” and wove it into the fabric of their lives. Charismatic teachers like Swami Vivekananda and Paramahansa Yogananda came west in waves, prompting leading intellectuals, artists, and scientists such as Aldous Huxley, Joseph Campbell, Allen Ginsberg, J. D. Salinger, John Coltrane, Dean Ornish, and Richard Alpert, aka Ram Dass, to adapt and disseminate what they learned from them. The impact has been enormous, enlarging our current understanding of the mind and body and dramatically changing how we view ourselves and our place in the cosmos. Goldberg paints a compelling picture of this remarkable East-to-West transmission, showing how it accelerated through the decades and eventually moved from the counterculture into our laboratories, libraries, and living rooms. Now physicians and therapists routinely recommend meditation, words like karma and mantra are part of our everyday vocabulary, and Yoga studios are as ubiquitous as Starbuckses. The insights of India’s sages permeate so much of what we think, believe, and do that they have redefined the meaning of life for millions of Americans—and continue to do so every day. Rich in detail and expansive in scope, American Veda shows how we have come to accept and live by the central teaching of Vedic wisdom: “Truth is one, the wise call it by many names.”

Book Children of Immortal Bliss

Download or read book Children of Immortal Bliss written by Paul Hourihan and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PRACTICAL TEACHINGS FOR PEACE AND FULFILLMENT In this clear introduction to the Vedanta philosophy of India, you'll discover a new perspective that can bring inner peace, inner strength and improve your relationships for a happier life. This spiritual book written by Paul Hourihan, an American, introduces these ancient teachings in a way that Westerners, in particular, can easily relate to and understand. Why learn about the teachings of Vedanta? - According to Vedanta, ignorance of our real nature is the cause of our suffering and grief. The practical application of this philosophy is the means to Self-discovery, integration and inner peace for those of all faiths and those with no particular faith. - By stressing the universal truths common to all religions, they provide a unifying basis for mutual understanding and peace in a world increasingly fragmented by opposing beliefs. - They provide a foundation for understanding why a moral and ethical life are necessary. - This knowledge gives us the means for realizing our true identity as Children of Immortal Bliss. Using the teachings of the Upanishads, this study covers the main principles and core concepts of Vedanta and covers important subjects such as meditation, nonattachment. It also provides an overview of the mysticism of India and a summary of the Yoga system of thought, as well as the Bhagavad Gita, another key Vedantic scripture. The last section reveals the universality of these teachings through confirmations of great mystics from other traditions including Plotinus, Lao Tzu, Meister Eckhart and the Sufis of Islam. Vedanta shows the way to inner peace, harmony among all peoples, and respect for all life.

Download or read book Revelation of Reality written by Dinesh C. Bhargava and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for those in quest of Reality. The first two chapters deal with the Origin and Process of Creation. Nobel Prize-winning quantum physicists and others of the twentieth-century had their first non-sensory experience of reality, as the Mystics did. The models of modern physics became akin to those of Eastern philosophy. Modern science has discovered a reality beyond the physical world, endorsing ancient Vedic teachings of Illusion, that Truth or Reality does not lie in what is seen but in what is unseen. Vedanta deals with the Origen and the Beginning of Creation. Science does not deal with the origin of the universe, but only describes the early beginnings and evolutions, after the event-CRNS Scientist. “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena; it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence” Nikolai Tesla. The book refers to the world at a deeper level, and describes the Sub-structure, the Absolute Substance and the Ground of all Existence. It describes how Mind creates matter by dissolving the distinction between subject and object through acts of conscious observation and interaction. Modern Science is changing western thinking to converge with the revelations of the ancient seers, re-strengthening mankind’s belief in a Supreme Being. From here on, Nature, Man and God all seem to converge.
