The food choices individuals make during their formative years can have a profound impact on their physical health, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. Nutrient Intake: Consuming a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates is crucial for supporting growth and development in young individuals. These nutrients play key roles in building strong bones, boosting immunity, and providing energy for daily activities. Cognitive Function: Research has shown that certain foods can enhance cognitive function and support brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, nuts, and seeds are known to improve memory and concentration, while antioxidants in fruits and vegetables protect brain cells from damage. Emotional Well-being: The connection between diet and mental health is increasingly recognized, with studies linking poor dietary habits to an increased risk of depression and anxiety. Eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods can help stabilize mood and promote emotional resilience. By emphasizing the importance of healthy eating habits early on, young individuals can establish a strong foundation for lifelong wellness. Encouraging the consumption of whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats can instill positive dietary patterns that carry over into adulthood. In addition to physical health benefits, promoting healthy eating among youth can also foster a positive relationship with food and body image. By teaching young individuals about the value of nourishing their bodies with wholesome foods, they can develop a sense of empowerment and self-care that transcends mere nutrition.

Download or read book Sermons to Self written by Christopher Ward and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian faith is difficult--intellectually, morally, and spiritually. People struggle to make sense of it, and to live it. Many give up. Sitting in the pew (an increasing rarity), with a Christian upbringing and education behind him, Christopher Ward finds the practice and the preaching of the church unhelpful in resolving these struggles. He is tempted to give up and reject it all. Before he does, however, he is determined to make one last attempt to explore what it all means to him, guided only by what he hears and reads in the Bible Sunday to Sunday. Christopher Ward takes the four readings appointed for each Sunday in one year and identifies those verses that have a particular resonance for him. He then explores his personal response to them, unaided by academic study or biblical commentary, and analyzes their cumulative impact on his thinking. This exercise results in unexpected discoveries, and new trains of thought, plus many frustrations and much perplexity. In the end, his struggles are rewarded by a realization that his faltering faith has more to support it than he first believed.
Download or read book Embody written by Karoline M. Lewis and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastors and other leaders feel trapped in systems and institutions where actions and decisions often seem to have little to do with the scripture they read or the theology they profess. They are swept into leadership norms that resemble business models more than mission. They see in others and (sometimes) recognize in themselves the disconnect between their own theology and their leadership. They feel unable to fully integrate their beliefs with their behavior. Many leaders—younger ones, especially—are frustrated and disillusioned by this disconnect. They see hypocrisy all around them, and in themselves. They see that our culture is at a critical juncture, which gives ministry a greater sense of urgency. But they want to do things differently, to be what they believe. They want to embody their Christian beliefs in every decision, every act of ministry leadership. The functional authority of scripture must be evident in the way church leaders lead, both within the congregation and in the public square. lead our churches. The way we church leaders lead proves the bible does—or does not—matter. In Embody, Karoline Lewis shows how to frame leadership in the church and public square theologically, and from the perspective of incarnation. She shows how leadership can be a direct line between what you believe and what you do. She incorporates examples of Jesus' leadership and the Paraclete in the Gospel of John, showing how leadership was achieved by walking beside. Embody offers practical things for the reader to consider and do, instruction and guidance for how to make the ‘integration steps’ necessary in order to become an embodied leader, and exploration of core components of embodied leadership.

The chapters included here engage with Jung and Freud, Lacan and Bion, and Klein and Winnicott in their interrogations of contemporary cinema and the moving image. In three parts the book presents examinations of both classic and contemporary films including Black Swan, Zero Dark Thirty and The Dybbuk: Part 1 – The Desire, the Body and the Unconscious Part 2 – Psychoanalytical Theories and the Cinema Part 3 – Reflections and Destructions, Mirrors and Transgressions Embodied Encounters is an eclectic volume which presents in one book the voices of those who work with different psychoanalytical paradigms. Download or read book Chasing Grace written by Sanya Richards-Ross and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “For as long as I can remember, life has been measured in seconds. The fewer, the better.” Most people equate success with having more, but Sanya’s quest was always for less. She started running track as a little girl in Jamaica and began competing when she was only seven. At 31 she’s had a career’s worth of conditioning to run a 400-meter race in 50 seconds, hopefully 49, or even better, 48. When she started training with her coach, Clyde Hart, they divided her race into four phases: push, pace, position, poise, and with the inherent prayer. For years Sanya worked to hone every phase in practice so that when it came time to race, her body would respond as her mind instinctively transitioned from one phase to the next. As she got older and embraced a life that measures more than just a number on the time clock, she has realized the genius of this strategy for not just racing the 400 meters, but for living her best life. Sanya shares triumphant as well as heartbreaking stories as she reveals her journey to becoming a world-class runner. From her childhood in Jamaica to Athens, Beijing and London Olympics, readers will find themselves inspired by the unique insights she’s gained through her victories and losses, including her devastating injury during the 2016 Olympic Trials forcing career retirement just weeks before Rio. Sanya demonstrates how even this devastating loss brought her closer to the ultimate goal of becoming all God created her to be. ”Sometimes you think you are chasing a gold medal, but that’s not what you are chasing. You’re racing to become the best version of yourself.”
