Book Elvis Day by Day 2019 the Year in Review

Download or read book Elvis Day by Day 2019 the Year in Review written by Kees Mouwen and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2019 was a year of many celebrations for Elvis Presley fans. It marked the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's triumphant return to live performing and the release of two of his most iconic recordings, "Suspicious Minds" and "In The Ghetto". This was celebrated with several milestone releases like the "Elvis Live 1969" deluxe 11 CD box, a vinyl re-issue of "From Elvis in Memphis" and the sessions for that album on the "American Sound 1969" 5 CD set, a Record Store Day 2 LP and the "Elvis Now In Person" book. 2019 also marked the 60th anniversary of the release of the classic "A Date With Elvis" LP, his trip to Paris and much more. The Follow That Dream collectors label celebrated its 20th anniversary. Sadly 2019 also marks the 42nd anniversary of his untimely death. Elvis Presley has (almost) been gone for longer than he was among us, but he left a permanent mark. His cultural impact may very well have been more visible and 'alive' during the last 42 years than when he was actually alive. And so is the Elvis-world today. The almost 500 news-updates on Elvis Day By Day this year about the many new books, CDs, LPs, movie releases on DVD, Blu-ray and in movie theaters, appearances on music and movie charts (still topping some of those) and still 'playing' sell-out arenas, clearly show that Elvis Presley still matters today. Especially when younger generations discover his music through digital releases and Spotify and start to buy re-issues of his original work on old fashioned vinyl. Today's Elvis news primarily finds its way to fans through on-line channels and in summarized form in newsletters and fan-club magazines. Based on the Elvis Day By Day news blog, and with additional and exclusive in-depth reviews by Nigel Patterson and Piers Beagley from the Elvis Information Network website, this book compiles a comprehensive and illustrated chronology of 'everything Elvis from 2019' in one physical reference book.

Book excerpt: "In the world of modern country music history, Tony Brown has earned a critical spot...[as] one of the top creative minds of the past four decades." -- Billboard.com This striking photographic journey shows how Tony Brown became the King of Nashville: from pianist for Elvis Presley, to president of MCA Records Nashville, to producer of over 100 number-one country songs that are beloved by millions. Elvis, Strait, to Jesus celebrates a music icon's legendary rise, his history-making industry relationships, and how these friendships gave us the songs we still live by. The magic of Tony Brown's forty-year career is revealed in pictures, with historical and behind-the-scenes images, snapshots from the "Elvis years," and stylish contemporary portraits staged in a French Renaissance chair of friends, musicians, and artists including: George Strait - Reba McEntire - Trisha Yearwood - Brooks & Dunn - Vince Gill - Lionel Richie - Lyle Lovett - Patty Loveless - Steve Earle - Rosanne Cash - Emmylou Harris - Jimmy Buffett - Marty Stuart - Bernie Taupin - Don Was - William Lee Golden - Rodney Crowell - David Briggs - Glen D. Hardin - Donnie Sumner, and more. Tony's fascinating anecdotes accompanying the photos unveil the encounters that led to mega-hits by George Strait, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, and countless others; he recounts how he became the accidental founder of Americana music with the edgy signings of Steve Earle and Lyle Lovett to MCA, as well as his unforgettable memories of life on tour with Elvis Presley. He also retraces his North Carolina roots and honors the legends of rock, country, and gospel with whom he forged an inimitable music legacy. This special tribute is one that no fan of music or artistic photography should be without.

Book Last Train To Memphis

Download or read book Last Train To Memphis written by Peter Guralnick and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2020-04-30 with total page 751 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written with grace, humour, and affection, Last Train to Memphis has been hailed as the definitive biography of Elvis Presley 'Elvis steps from the pages. You can feel him breathe' BOB DYLAN 'Wonderful' RODDY DOYLE 'Soars above all other accounts of Elvis' Guardian 'A triumph of biographical art... profound and moving' New York Times Last Train to Memphis is arguably the first serious biography that refuses to dwell on the myth of Elvis. Aiming instead to portray in vivid, dramatic terms the life and career of this outstanding artistic and cultural phenomenon, it draws together a plethora of documentary and interview material to create a superbly coherent and plausible narrative. The first of two volumes, covering Presley's rise to prominence up to his departure for Germany in 1958, Last Train to Memphis is undoubtedly the benchmark by which other biographies of him are judged.

Book Elvis in Vegas

Download or read book Elvis in Vegas written by Richard Zoglin and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Outstanding pop-culture history.” —Newsday The “smart and zippy account” (The Wall Street Journal) of how Las Vegas saved Elvis and Elvis saved Las Vegas in the greatest musical comeback of all time. Elvis’s 1969 opening night in Vegas was his first time back on a live stage in more than eight years. His career had gone sour—bad movies, mediocre pop songs that no longer made the charts—and he’d been dismissed by most critics as over-the-hill. But in Vegas he played the biggest showroom in the biggest hotel in the city, drawing more people for his four-week engagement than any other show in Vegas history. His performance got rave reviews; “Suspicious Minds,” the song he introduced there, gave him his first number-one hit in seven years; and Elvis became Vegas’s biggest star. Over the next seven years, he performed more than 600 shows there, and sold out every one. Las Vegas was changed, too. By the end of the ‘60s, Vegas’ golden age—when the Rat Pack led a glittering array of stars who made it the nation’s premier live-entertainment center—was losing its luster. Elvis created a new kind of Vegas show: an over-the-top, rock-concert extravaganza. He set a new bar for Vegas performers, with the biggest salary, the biggest musical production, and the biggest promotion campaign the city had ever seen. He opened the door to a new generation of pop/rock artists and brought a new audience to Vegas—not the traditional well-heeled older gamblers, but a mass audience from Middle America that Vegas depends on for its success to this day. At once “a fascinating history of Vegas as gambling capital, celebrity playground, mob hangout, [and] entertainment Valhalla” (Rolling Stone) and the incredible “tale of how the King got his groove back” (Associated Press), Elvis in Vegas is a classic feel-good story for the ages.

We witness the arc of his love affair with Priscilla; Elvis as a father to his adored Lisa Marie; his obsessions and passions; and the strength of his musical legacy, which continues unabated to this day. Elvis by the Presleys is the tumultuous story of the life of a lovely yet complex man; a portrait of the career of a brilliantly accomplished yet often frustrated artist; an insider’s tale of enduring love, related with warmth and unguarded candor . . . and a story told the way only a family can tell it.
