McGuire and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Purpose. The purpose of this investigation of teacher's perceptions of principal's leadership behavior and student achievement (reading) was to explore those factors of principal's leader behaviors that differentiate low achieving and high achieving schools as perceived by teachers. Sample. Two hundred sixty-one teachers in seven selected northeast Ohio school district and seventeen buildings participated in this study. Teachers in this study had at least three years of experience and one or more years of supervision from the principals whose leadership behavior they described. Instrument. The revised Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire Form XII was used. This instrument measured only four subscales, consideration Initiating Structure, Persuasion and Superior Orientation. This instrument was used to explore answer to five research questions. Findings. The study results did not support the premise that the leader behavior task structure differentiated effective from ineffective schools. Teachers in both groups of schools perceived that principals exhibited this characteristic. However, the results revealed that the leader behavior, consideration, did differ at the .05 level of significance as perceived by teachers between principals in high and low achieving schools. The data also showed that discrepancy existed between principals self perception and teacher perceptions of the leader behavior, superior orientation at the .05 level of significance. The data also revealed that the level of staff involvement, such as awareness, implementation, and curricular focus was more evident in low achieving than in high achieving schools. Conclusion. The investigation concluded that there is substantial need for further exploration of the leadership variable. An important recommendation is that additional research be initiated using the LBDQ and other research instruments as a strategy to consistently operationalize the leadership characteristics of Effective Schools Movement.

Book excerpt: "This dissertation examined the beliefs of elementary teachers to determine if their perceptions of effective principal leadership align to transformational leadership theory vis-à-vis the Educational Leadership Policy Standards (ELPS). A phenomenological, single-case study approach was utilized by means of a mixed-methodological, Web-based survey, incorporating both closed and extended response questions. Teacher members of the Washington Education Association, the state's affiliate member of the National Education Association, were selected via simple random sampling to take the survey in the spring and fall of 2010"--Abstract.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current dissertation was effected to contribute to the existing literature on teacher evaluation. More specifically, the study utilized principals' perceptions to identify what principals, who often evaluate teachers, believe are the most frequent causes of teacher ineffectiveness. For this dissertation, the researcher extended a study by Torff and Sessions (2005). In that study, the authors measured principals' perceptions of the causes of teacher ineffectiveness within high school classrooms. This study extended Torff and Sessions' (2005) research by including elementary school principal perceptions, investigating whether differences exist in elementary school principals' perceptions when asked to rate teacher ineffectiveness across specific academic content areas. Utilizing an ordinal probit model the researcher determined that the only variable that significantly predicted principal perception was Dimension (rating criterion). In addition, the results revealed that, when the researcher controlled for principals' propensity to use the scale in different ways, Implementation Lesson Plans and Writing Lesson Plans were the most frequently rated causes of teacher ineffectiveness across all Domains.

Book excerpt: Research has shown that various leadership styles have different impacts on leader outcomes such as satisfaction, extra effort, and effectiveness. Specifically, researchers have found that transformational leadership positively impacts follower perceptions of satisfaction, extra effort, and leader effectiveness (Avolio, Bass, & lung, 1995; Philbin, 1997; Yammarino, Spangler, & Bass, 1993). However, research has shown that not all leaders display transformational leadership. In fact, Eagly, Karau, & lohnson (1992) and their colleagues have shown transformational leadership in education to be linked to the extent to which male and female principals carry out their gender roles - referring to role congruity. Currently, not much is known empirically about the relationship between the role of the elementary school principal leadership and gender roles and its combined effects on teachers' perceived satisfaction, perceived effectiveness of their principals, and their assessment of extra effort put forth towards their job. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between leadership style (transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire) and psychological gender role group (masculine, feminine, undifferentiated, androgynous) of elementary school principals. Exploration of this topic filled a void in empirical investigations of the psychological gender perspective of school leadership. Multivariate Analysis of Variance techniques were used to examine the relationships between and among principal psychological gender role, biological gender, principal effectiveness, teacher satisfaction, and teacher extra effort. Additionally, canonical correlation was used to examine the relationship between leadership factor variable set and psychological gender role variable set. Results detected one relationship exists between psychological gender role and leadership behavior variable sets. Specifically, findings suggest femininity, masculinity, idealized influence attribute, idealized influence behavior, inspiration-motivation, intellection stimulation, individual consideration, contingent reward, and laissez-faire provide the best linear combinations of Pearson correlations between the leadership behavior and psychological gender role variable sets. In addition, results indicated statistically significant differences in perceived principal effectiveness, teacher perceived satisfaction, and teacher extra effort based on teacher perceived level of principal psychological gender. Teachers who perceived their principals as androgynous and feminine reported higher levels of extra effort, satisfaction, and principal effectiveness. Leadership behavior did not appear to have a significant influence on extra effort, satisfaction, and principal effectiveness. Additionally, the interaction effect between perceived principal psychological gender role group and principal biological gender was not statistically significant.
