Book The Curriculum of the Horace Mann Elementary School Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Curriculum of the Horace Mann Elementary School Classic Reprint written by Teachers of the Horace Mann Elem School and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Curriculum of the Horace Mann Elementary School The curriculum of the Horace Mann Elementary School, as published in five numbers of the teachers college record in 1906 and 1907, has long since been out of date as well as out of print. In response to many requests, therefore, this revision of the course of study is published. The changes from the former curriculum, while they are numer ous, have been the result of a gradual growth during the past six years. The administration of the school leaves the principal and the teachers peculiarly free to modify their methods of teaching and the subject matter of instruction whenever it seems best to do so in View of the best interests of the pupils and in accordance with the best accepted educational practice. The specific changes that have been made are noted in the introductory statements under each subject. The Study of New York City, which is outlined in Chapter IV, is an organized attempt to prepare our pupils to take a more intelligent and enthusiastic interest in civic betterment. As they become better acquainted with local history and tradition and with our best artistic possessions, as they come to realize the great social problems growing out of the industrial life of their city and the organizations of good citizens that are working to solve such problems, we hope that they themselves will soon develop a high type of civic responsibility. Book The Primary Curriculum Vol 2

Download or read book The Primary Curriculum Vol 2 written by Frank Herbert Hayward and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Primary Curriculum, Vol. 2: Edited and in Part Written "Mankind continually educates itself through the circle of thought which it begets." - Herbart. "I cannot too strongly urge you to acquire a habit of thinking of your pupils in associative terms... thinking of them (however else you may think of them besides) as so many little systems of associative (apperceptive) machinery... You will be astonished at the intimacy of insight into their operations and at the practicality of the results which yon will gain... Types of character are largely types of association... "If you wish to ensure the interest of your pupils there is only one way to do it; and that is to make certain that they have something in their minds to attend with when you begin to talk. That something can consist in nothing but a previous lot of ideas." - Professor James, Talks to Teachers. "To this day the majority. still fail to grasp completely the Herbartian truth, the fact that every human soul moves within its circle of idea, resisting enlargement, incapable indeed, if once it is adult, of any extensive enlargement, and that all effectual human progress can be achieved only through such enlargement. Only ideas cognate to the circle of ideas are assimilated or assimilable; ideas too alien, though you shout them in the ear, or thrust them in the face, remain foreign and incomprehensible." Mr. H. G. Wells, New Worlds for Old. "We are ideas, and cannot be separated from them." Professor J. Adams, Moral Education Congress, 1908. Book Exploring Creation with Zoology 2

Download or read book Exploring Creation with Zoology 2 written by Jeannie K. Fulbright and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the rivers and streams to the mighty ocean, God filled the Earth's waters with animals great and small. Upon His Word, enormous whales sprung into being. At His command, billions of plankton leapt to life. On that day, millions of creatures like the strapping sea turtles, the skulking sharks, the delightful dolphins, and the soaring squid gladly joined their fellow sea animals. How joyously crammed with excitement was the fifth day of earth's existence. Apologia's newest elementary science book will take you and your family on an exploration into the wonders of the swimming creatures made on the fifth day of Creation. You'll begin with a big splash from the whales and dolphins, then spy on seals and meet manatees before swimming with the sea turtles, snakes, and salamanders. You'll even peek in on the primeval plesiosaraus and its pals. Following your frolic with fish and sharks, you'll uncover the world of crabby crustaceans, sea snails, clams, and their soft bodied friends like the octopus, squid, and nautilus. You'll consort with corals, find flowers that devour plankton, see stars and feathers that walk, leap and roll, and discover dollars that disappear in the sand and sponges that clean more than you might think. From the microscopic to massive, no stone is left unturned in your student's passage through the waters of the world. The creatures your student studies will come to life as your student creates replicas of them and adds them to his Ocean box - a miniature hand-crafted aquarium. As always, each lesson ends with an experiment or project reinforcing the scientific method and the concepts studied. Among other experiments and projects, your student will try on blubber, investigate a shark's ability to sense electrical currents, explore how whales can hear sounds that come from far away, and learn through experimentation which creatures make the best fossils. No matter how near or far you live from the ocean, you and your students will wonder at God's design in the amazing aquatic animals He formed and fashioned on the fifth day. Slip on your scuba gear, and come explore with us!
