Book Elementary Agricultural Chemistry A Handbook For

Download or read book Elementary Agricultural Chemistry A Handbook For written by Herbert Ingle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Agricultural Chemistry; A Handbook For: Junior Agricultural Students and Farmers With the exception of a few corrections and additions, this is a reprint of tho last edition. In an elementary book of this kind the introduction of the results of recent work on the constitution and digestion of proteids may safely wait until the main facts and principles are more fully elaborated by the active investigations which are now being made. Doubtless, in the near future, a conception of tho whole process of digestion will be reached, clear enough for easy presentment to oven elementary students. This little volume is based upon the writer's long experience in teaching agricultural students, among whom there are, unfortunately, many who cannot devote the time necessary to acquire sufficient knowledge of pure chemistry to profitably read such works as the author's "Manual of Agricultural Chemistry." It is true that any attempt to combine, in one book, instruction in the principles of general chemistry with the somewhat technical information concerning tho chemistry of agriculture, must be in many ways a failure, and the author would strongly recommend the user of this work to read some good, modern text-book on the former; or, better perhaps, to ask his teacher to explain, at greater length, the very incomplete and sketchy accounts which are given of the principles of chemistry and of the properties of the elements and compounds important in agriculture. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rural Chemistry: An Elementary Introduction to the Study of the Science in Its Relation to Agriculture and the Arts of Life The following pages formed the substance of a short series of articles on Chemistry, which originally appeared in the columns of the Gardeners' Chronicle. The interest which they excited in the readers of that journal, has led to their republication in a separate and more complete form. It would have been easy to have greatly increased the size of the book; and indeed it was frequently very difficult to select from the mass of information which exists those facts which appeared most worthy of notice. The original object of the Author was to give such an elementary sketch of the science as should enable those ignorant of the subject more readily to comprehend the works of the various authors who have written on Agricultural Chemistry. This book was released on 2018-01-22 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book on Agricultural Chemistry, for the Use of Academies, Schools, and Agriculturalists: Comprising That Portion of Elementary Chemistry Which Is Necessary to a Full Understanding of the Changes Connected With Vegetable Organization, and an Examination of the Different Manures, Soils, Crops, &C The superiority of chemical names over these in common use, is not justly appreciated the latter usually mean nothing the former gener ally indicate the exact constitution of the substances designated or their peculiar properties. In the following pages, the common name is used whenever any such exists, and the chemical term is given in connection with it. Rules also are given which enable the learner by a very little study, to determine the constitution of a compound from its name, or its name from its constitution. It has been the endeavor of the author to introduce only that portion of elementary chemistry which is essential to a full understanding of the Changes occurring in the vegetable world; in the last part of the work the principles of the science are applied, and the nature and action of different manures, the capabilities of different soils, and the kind of food demanded by different plants, successively examined.
