Book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna

Download or read book A Dielectric loaded Leaky Wave Antenna written by Jorgen Aasted and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and the measured performance are described of a flat, leaky-wave antenna in which the inductive, leaky surface is backed with a slab of dielectric. The analysis is based on a transverse resonance analysis which determines the physical dimensions of the antenna for a certain specified aperture distribution. An antenna was built to compare the theoretical behavior with the measured performance. Two ways of forming the dielectric to the antenna were tested. When the dielectric was molded in place the radiation pattern agreed very well with the theoretically predicted pattern, but high losses in the casting resin gave a lower gain for the antenna than anticipated. For a machined piece of dielectric, the radiation pattern was not as close to the predicted pattern as for the molded sample, but the gain was close to the predicted value. The antenna consists of a 28-by-18-inch through filled with a dielectric material over which a sheet of parallel wires is strung. At the design frequency, 4.75 gc, the antenna radiates a pencil beam 9.4 by 8.3 degrees wide at an angle of 54 degrees measured from the normal to the inductive surface. The beam can be scanned from approximately 75 degrees down to 12 degrees from the normal to the aperture by changing the frequency from 5.25 gc to 4.20 gc. (Author).

Book Transformation Wave Physics

Download or read book Transformation Wave Physics written by Mohamed Farhat and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space–time transformations as a design tool for a new class of composite materials (metamaterials) have proved successful recently. The concept is based on the fact that metamaterials can mimic a transformed but empty space. Light rays follow trajectories according to Fermat’s principle in this transformed electromagnetic, acoustic, or elastic space instead of laboratory space. This allows one to manipulate wave behaviors with various exotic characteristics such as (but not limited to) invisibility cloaks. This book is a collection of works by leading international experts in the fields of electromagnetics, plasmonics, elastodynamics, and diffusion waves. The experimental and theoretical contributions will revolutionize ways to control the propagation of sound, light, and other waves in macroscopic and microscopic scales. The potential applications range from underwater camouflaging and electromagnetic invisibility to enhanced biosensors and protection from harmful physical waves (e.g., tsunamis and earthquakes). This is the first book that deals with transformation physics for all kinds of waves in one volume, covering the newest results from emerging topical subjects such as transformational plasmonics and thermodynamics.

Book Electromagnetic Metamaterials

Download or read book Electromagnetic Metamaterials written by Christophe Caloz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-11-22 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic metamaterials-from fundamental physics to advanced engineering applications This book presents an original generalized transmission line approach associated with non-resonant structures that exhibit larger bandwidths, lower loss, and higher design flexibility. It is based on the novel concept of composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line metamaterials (MMs), which has led to the development of novel guided-wave, radiated-wave, and refracted-wave devices and structures. The authors introduced this powerful new concept and are therefore able to offer readers deep insight into the fundamental physics needed to fully grasp the technology. Moreover, they provide a host of practical engineering applications. The book begins with an introductory chapter that places resonant type and transmission line metamaterials in historical perspective. The next six chapters give readers a solid foundation in the fundamentals and practical applications: Fundamentals of LH MMs describes the fundamental physics and exotic properties of left-handed metamaterials TL Theory of MMs establishes the foundations of CRLH structures in three progressive steps: ideal transmission line, LC network, and real distributed structure Two-Dimensional MMs develops both a transmission matrix method and a transmission line method to address the problem of finite-size 2D metamaterials excited by arbitrary sources Guided-Wave Applications and Radiated-Wave Applications present a number of groundbreaking applications developed by the authors The Future of MMs sets forth an expert view on future challenges and prospects This engineering approach to metamaterials paves the way for a new generation of microwave and photonic devices and structures. It is recommended for electrical engineers, as well as physicists and optical engineers, with an interest in practical negative refractive index structures and materials.
