Book Electronic to Vibrational Energy Transfer from Br to CO2 and Electronic to Vibrational Laser Feasibility Studies

Download or read book Electronic to Vibrational Energy Transfer from Br to CO2 and Electronic to Vibrational Laser Feasibility Studies written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energy transfer mechanism from photo-excited bromine atoms (Br(2P sub 1/2)) to C02 is investigated in a pulsed fluorescence experiment. An excimer-pumped pulsed dye laser operating at 480 nm is used to photolyze molecular bromine, resulting in the creation of one excited state bromine atom, Br(2P sub 1/2), and one ground state atom, Br(2P sub 3/2). The electronically- excited bromine atoms (referred to as Br*) collide with and excite vibrational modes in the ground electronic state of CO2. Measurements are made of the Br* lifetimes and associated quenching processes, and the electronic-to-vibrational (E yields V) energy transfer rate from Br* to CO2. The feasibility of subsequent stimulated emission from the CO2 on the (101)-(100)(4.3 micron) transition is studied, and attempts are made to achieve lasing. Limitations of the experimental apparatus prevented achieving stimulated emission on the 4.3 micron transition. Recommendations are made for improvements in the analysis and apparatus for further research.

Book Steady State Kinetics of Br 2P 1 2 Yields CO2 101 Electronic to Vibrational Energy Transfer Laser System

Download or read book Steady State Kinetics of Br 2P 1 2 Yields CO2 101 Electronic to Vibrational Energy Transfer Laser System written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steady state photolysis experiments were conducted to gain information relevant to the construction of a continuous wave electronic to vibrational pumped infrared laser. An Ar+ laser =488 nm) was used to produce the electronically excited state Br(2P1/2) (B*) via photolysis of molecular bromine. Energy was then transferred to the near resonant vibrational state CO2(101) (CO2cross) via the collisional quenching of Br* by CO2. The dependence of the 2.71 micron Br0 and 4.3 micron CO2cross emissions on CO2 pressure was measured, as well as the dependence of the 4.3 micron emission on pump laser chopping frequency. Unexpected results were obtained in both cases, indicating more detailed modeling of kinetic processes is called for. Additionally, an unexplained long term decay in the 4.3 micron signal was observed, which may have bearing on the construction of closed system laser devices. Recommendations are made for further research.

Book Vibration to Electronic Energy Transfer for Electronic Transition Lasers

Download or read book Vibration to Electronic Energy Transfer for Electronic Transition Lasers written by Stephen R. Leone and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research was undertaken to help in the development of more efficient and scalable visible and ultraviolet lasers. The goal of the project seeks to determine whether transfer of energy from high vibrational levels of diatomic molecules can occur to lasing electronic states and if this transfer can be used to produce visible-UV lasers.

Book Vibrational Nonequilibrium in Carbon Dioxide Electric Discharge Lasers

Download or read book Vibrational Nonequilibrium in Carbon Dioxide Electric Discharge Lasers written by Edward Ray Murray (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental and theoretical investigation of the vibrational nonequilibrium in a CO2 - N2 - He electric discharge was performed under strong nonequilibrium conditions. Measurements of 9.6 and 10.6 micron gain were made in a laser amplifier tube using a tuneable, spectrally pure CO2 laser and a double-beam diagnostic system. The vibrational temperature for each of the three vibrational modes of CO2 was determined experimentally from a knowledge of gain in both laser bands and from a direct measurement of the vibrational temperature of the asymmetric mode using a band reversal scheme. The transition rate and optical cross sections for the 10.6 micron band and the 9.6 micron band were measured. A theoretical performance prediction of laser gain and vibrational temperatures was made using all significant energy transfer processes.

Book Vibrational Energy Transfer in HF DF CO2 Chemical Laser Systems

Download or read book Vibrational Energy Transfer in HF DF CO2 Chemical Laser Systems written by Ross A. McFarlane and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experimental method of laser induced vibrational fluorescence has been used to measure the overall rate, k(12), with which the (001) vibrational energy level of CO2 in the lowest electronic state is deactivated through collisions with DF and HF in their lowest electronic and vibrational states. The rate constants were measured both 75C and 100C at which temperatures the presence of dimers (D2F2/H2F2) were reduced to negligible proportions. (Author).
