Book Spectral Sensing Research for Water Monitoring Applications and Frontier Science and Technology for Chemical Biological and Radiological Defense

Download or read book Spectral Sensing Research for Water Monitoring Applications and Frontier Science and Technology for Chemical Biological and Radiological Defense written by Dwight L. Woolard and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides unique perspectives on both state-of-the-art hyperspectral techniques for the early-warning monitoring of water supplies against chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) contamination effects as well as the emerging spectroscopic science and technology base that will be used to support an array of CBR defense and security applications in the future. The technical content in this book lends itself to the non-traditional requirements for point and stand-off detection that have evolved out of the US joint services programs over many years. In particular, the scientific and technological work presented seeks to enable hyperspectral-based sensing and monitoring that is real-time; in-line; low in cost and labor; and easy to support, maintain and use in military- and security-relevant scenarios.

Download or read book Laser Radar written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-03-14 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, the range of technologies with the potential to threaten the security of U.S. military forces is extremely broad. These include developments in explosive materials, sensors, control systems, robotics, satellite systems, and computing power, to name just a few. Such technologies have not only enhanced the capabilities of U.S. military forces, but also offer enhanced offensive capabilities to potential adversaries - either directly through the development of more sophisticated weapons, or more indirectly through opportunities for interrupting the function of defensive U.S. military systems. Passive and active electro-optical (EO) sensing technologies are prime examples. Laser Radar considers the potential of active EO technologies to create surprise; i.e., systems that use a source of visible or infrared light to interrogate a target in combination with sensitive detectors and processors to analyze the returned light. The addition of an interrogating light source to the system adds rich new phenomenologies that enable new capabilities to be explored. This report evaluates the fundamental, physical limits to active EO sensor technologies with potential military utility; identifies key technologies that may help overcome the impediments within a 5-10 year timeframe; considers the pros and cons of implementing each existing or emerging technology; and evaluates the potential uses of active EO sensing technologies, including 3D mapping and multi-discriminate laser radar technologies.

Book Stand off Detection of Suicide Bombers and Mobile Subjects

Download or read book Stand off Detection of Suicide Bombers and Mobile Subjects written by Hiltmar Schubert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-10-04 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is derived from lectures at an international NATO-Russian Advanced Research Workshop on the Stand-off-Detection of concealed explosives carried by suicide-bombers or in vehicles. Ideally, explosives should be detected by harmless methods at a distance, and unknown to the persons under inspection. The aim is to devise sensing techniques that will allow the shortest developing time sufficient to start commercial production. Short time availability is a prioritizing isssue.

Book The Handbook of Organic Compounds Three Volume Set

Download or read book The Handbook of Organic Compounds Three Volume Set written by Jerry Workman, Jr. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-18 with total page 1493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Organic Compounds: NIR, IR, Raman, and UV-Vis Spectra Featuring Polymers and Surfactants represents a compendium of practical spectroscopic methodology, comprehensive reviews, and basic information for organic materials, surfactants, and polymer spectra covering the Ultraviolet, Visible, Near Infrared, Infrared, Raman and Dielectric measurement techniques. This set represents a complementary organic compound handbook to the Nyquist inorganic handbook, published in 1996. This set comprises the first comprehensive multi-volume handbook to provide basic coverage for UV-Vis, 4th overtone NIR, 3rd overtone NIR, NIR, Infrared, Raman spectra, and Dielectric data for common organic compounds, polymers, surfactants, contaminants, and inorganic materials commonly encountered in the laboratory. The text includes a description and reviews of interpretive and chemometric techniques used for spectral data analysis. The spectra included within the atlas are useful for identification purposes as well as pedagogical for the instruction of the various interpretive and data processing methods discussed. This work is designed to be of help to students and vibrational spectroscopists in their efforts of daily spectral interpretation and data processing of organic spectra, polymers, and surfactants. All spectra are presented in wavenumber and transmittance, with the addition of ultraviolet, visible, 4th overtone NIR, 3rd overtone NIR, and NIR spectra also represented in nanometers and absorbance space. In addition, some Horizontal infrared ATR spectra are presented in wavenumber and absorbance space. All spectra are shown with essential peaks labeled in their respective units. The material in this handbook was contributed to by several individuals, and comments were received from a variety of prominent workers in the field of molecular spectroscopy. This type of handbook project is a daunting task. This Handbook can provide a valuable reference for the daily activities of students and professionals working in modern molecular spectroscopy laboratories. * Indices for UV-Vis, fourth overtone NIR, third overtone NIR, NIR, IR, raman, and dielectric spectra * Unique detailed correlation charts for each of these spectral regions * Indices of spectra by alphabetical order, chemical class, and chemical formula * Cross referencing of common compounds for all spectral regions * Literature reviews of historical and most useful references in the field * Research oriented for those using molecular spectroscopy on a routine basis for interpretation, qualitative and quantitative analysis * An emphasis on near infrared and infrared spectral regions
