Book Electrical Properties of Quench condensed Thin Film

Download or read book Electrical Properties of Quench condensed Thin Film written by Kyoungjin Lee and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical properties of thin film have been an issue of interest for a long time and there are many applications in contemporary industry. Interesting characteristics, such as a metal-insulator transition and superconductivity, were investigated and applied to manufacturing of various electrical devices. In this line of study, many experimental techniques have been introduced for precise measurement of the properties of thin film. Quench-condensation is one of the important techniques in the research of thin films. To facilitate this research, we built a quench-condensation apparatus which can be used for a variety of experiments. The apparatus was designed for the fabrication of ultra-thin film and the in-situ measurement at low temperature. The apparatus was shown to operate well for the fabrication of thin films while monitoring the growth in-situ. As a part of the preliminary research, we measured the electrical properties of aluminum thin films at liquid nitrogen temperature by using this apparatus. An investigation of the thickness dependent conduction properties was successively performed in-situ. Experimental data showed agreement with theory, in particular the electrical conduction model of Neugebaur and Webb.

Book Recent Developments in Superconductivity Research

Download or read book Recent Developments in Superconductivity Research written by Barry P. Martins and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductivity is the ability of certain materials to conduct electrical current with no resistance and extremely low losses. High temperature superconductors, such as La2-xSrxCuOx (Tc=40K) and YBa2Cu3O7-x (Tc=90K), were discovered in 1987 and have been actively studied since. In spite of an intense, world-wide, research effort during this time, a complete understanding of the copper oxide (cuprate) materials is still lacking. Many fundamental questions are unanswered, particularly the mechanism by which high-Tc superconductivity occurs. More broadly, the cuprates are in a class of solids with strong electron-electron interactions. An understanding of such "strongly correlated" solids is perhaps the major unsolved problem of condensed matter physics with over ten thousand researchers working on this topic. High-Tc superconductors also have significant potential for applications in technologies ranging from electric power generation and transmission to digital electronics. This ability to carry large amounts of current can be applied to electric power devices such as motors and generators, and to electricity transmission in power lines. For example, superconductors can carry as much as 100 times the amount of electricity of ordinary copper or aluminium wires of the same size. Many universities, research institutes and companies are working to develop high-Tc superconductivity applications and considerable progress has been made. This volume brings together new leading-edge research in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present Supplement Volume Beryllium A 3 continues and completes the description of the physical properties of the element, begun in Supplement Volume A 2, 1991, and also treats the electrochemical behavior of the metal. The unique combination of the Be properties, which was pointed out in Supplement Volume A 2, is also demonstrated in the following chapters of this Volume A 3: 13. Electrical Properties 14. Electronic Properties 15. Optical Properties. Emission and Impact Phenomena 16. Electrochemical Behavior Starting with the electrical properties, Be isarather good electrical conductor in centrast to what might be expected. Superconductivity was studied, especially on films. Quantum effects, which are more pronounced in Be than in most other metals, are the reason for numerous in vestigations of the magnetoresistance and the magnetic-breakdown effect. The basis for many of the characteristic properties is the unique nature of bonding in Be as a consequence of its peculiar electronic structure and the special shape of its Fermi surface which also gave rise to further numerous studies. Detailed cluster calculations were per formed to better understand the bonding in the metal. Regarding the optical properties, the high reflectivity of Be, particularly in the infrared region, makes it attractive for the fabrication of precision optical surfaces (mirrors); it is also useful for solar-collector surfaces in spacecraft applications. Emission and electron-and ion impact phenomena as well as neutron optics are also discussed.
