Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Measurements In this book it is intended to give a general treatment of the subject of electrical measurements, special emphasis being placed on those matters which are important to the student of electrical engineering. In preparing a book of this character one has to consider, not only the mature reader who may desire a compendium of methods together with certain practical suggestions, but the student who is beginning the study of Electrical Engineering and who should acquire early in his course a sound knowledge of the process of electrical measurement. This knowledge is fundamental not only to much of the work which the student is required to do in the dynamo laboratory as a matter of engineering training, but to an adequate understanding of electrical testing as it is eu countered in the practice of the electrical engineering profession. In the preparation of the text this second class of readers has been particularly in mind. It is assumed that those who use this text have had courses in physics, the theory of electricity, and in mathematics, such as are given to third year students in technical schools of the first rank. Book Electrical Measurements in Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book Electrical Measurements in Practice Classic Reprint written by F. Malcolm Farmer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Measurements in Practice The subject Of electrical measurements has received much attention in the literature of electrical engineering. In general, however, the treatment has been from a theoretical or academic point Of view. In this volume the author has endeavored to present the subject in a simple, practical manner and from the standpoint Of engineers who are actively engaged in making measurements, tests and investigations in the electrical industry. All classes of measurements that the laboratory and testing engineer is Ordinarily called upon to make have been covered. The method Of treatment and part Of the material is the same as that in the author's co'ntribution on this subject to the Fourth Edition of the Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers. Instruments must naturally form a prominent part of any discussion Of electrical measurements, but detailed descriptive matter pertaining to commercial instruments has been limited to those instruments in most general use and without which the book would be obviously incomplete. Maximum demand meters have, however, been described rather extensively because they are a comparatively recent development. A short chapter has also been devoted to curve-drawing instruments because of their important part in commercial measurements and in laboratory investigations. Book Electrical Measurements

Download or read book Electrical Measurements written by Henry S. Carhart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Measurements: A Laboratory Manual Progress in the methods of Electrical Measurement is quite as marked as in the applications of electricity. The perfecting of measuring instruments keeps pace with the demands imposed by scientific accuracy. Laboratory practice should not be permitted to lag behind discovery and commercial applications; obso lete methods may with propriety be relegated to historical collections, along With antiquated apparatus, so that students in electricity may learn only the latest modes of procedure. The authors of this book have proceeded on this plan in collecting and devising methods to form a graded series of experiments for the use of several classes in electrical measurements. How well they have succeeded others must decide. Quantitative experiments only have been introduced, and they have been selected with the object of illustrating the general methods of measurement rather than the applications to specific departments of technical work, such as submarine cable testing, telegraphy and telephony, or dynamo electric machinery. It is thought to be better that these subjects should be treated in Special handbooks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of Electrical Testing IT was originally intended that the series of papers in the Telegraphic Journal, ' of which this little book is a revised and enlarged reprint, should have been confined to the subject indicated by their title, viz. Resistances and their Measurement. During the progress of the publication, however, it occurred to me that the treatment of the subject might be so extended and amplified as to embrace the general principles of electrical testing. My aim has been to produce a series of papers which would not only explain the practical applica tion of formulae given in existing text-books, but also show by what processes they may be obtained. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Measurements and Other Advanced Primers of Electricity Electrical Measurements and Other Advanced Primers of Electricity, the author again calls attention to the fact that these primers are in no sense to be regarded as revisions of the Primers of Electricity, published in Philadelphia in 1884, during the International Electrical Exhibition. The International Electrical Exhibition Primers, written during the early days of the Exhibition, were intended to explain merely the elementary principles of electricity to a public, that was then almost entirely ignorant of even the rudiments of the science. Book The Measurement of Electric Currents

Download or read book The Measurement of Electric Currents written by James Swinburne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Measurement of Electric Currents: Electrical Measuring Instruments; Meters for Electrical Energy The object of both of the valuable papers presented before the Institution of Civil Engineers included in this volume is to te view the advances made of late years in the production of what may be termed commer cial instruments for measuring commercial currents. In other words, the authors de vote their attention to the instruments having more or less of practicability to recommend them for the work of recording station output and securing station income. More than one class of apparatus is neces sarily embraced within such a survey, and the paper by Mr. Swinburne is laudably comprehensive, there being in it a descrip tion in some detail, or a broad generaliza tion that covers its principle, of well nigh every instrument that the electrical engineer cares to know anything about. Alternating current, voltage, and power are measured by instruments calibrated by direct-current instruments, and hence are in terms of the same standards. Alternating - current instruments are used in turn to calibrate the standards used in radio measurements. T here are no international standards in magnetism, ail measure ments being in terms of electric current and electromotive force. Book An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement

Download or read book An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement written by Latimer Clark and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement: For the Use of Telegraph Inspectors and Operators The Author having had occasion to write a little Manual to accompany some instruments designed for a special purpose, has thought that its publication might be of use to students preparing themselves for the ser vice Of the Electric Telegraph, and to others who might desire an Elementary Treatise on the subject of Electrical Measurement. The first half Of the work is designed for the use Of the student, and the practical telegraphist who has not given much time to the study of his subject, and is therefore written in a somewhat colloquial style it is possible that from this cause it may prove more readable and attractive than works of a more advanced character, and may tend to awaken an interest in the subject among many who have hitherto been content to employ the services of. Electricity daily without caring to acquaint themselves with the laws of its operation. The Author believes that the form of galvanometer herein recommended will be found a very useful and convenient instrument for all the practical measure ments Of telegraphy. Unlike ordinary: galvanometers, it is peculiarly suited for testing batteries, and the measure of their internal resistance is perhaps more easily and expeditiously obtained by this instrument than by any other method.* The latter half of the work is in the form of an Appendix, which has been added to the original treatise in order to make it useful to the practical electrician. It contains a variety of formulae, tables, and data for general use, chiefly taken from the author's note-book and also a description of the methods of measurement usually employed in telegraphy, with the formulae relating to them, which may often serve as an aid to the memory. The algebraic expressions throughout the book are put into a form especially intended for the use Of those who do not Often have recourse to them. The book having thus been written in two different portions, is necessarily wanting in all unity of design, for which, as for other imperfections, the author claims the indulgence Of his readers. His acknowledgments are due to Mr. J. C. Laws for the assistance he has rendered in revising most of the calculations in the work.
