Book Assessment of Hybrid electric Transit Bus Technology

Download or read book Assessment of Hybrid electric Transit Bus Technology written by Nigel N. Clark and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2009 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TCRP Report 132: Assessment of Hybrid-Electric Transit Bus Technology provides decisionmaking guidelines coupled with a comprehensive life cycle cost model (LCCM) to assist transit managers in evaluating, selecting, and implementing hybrid-electric technology options for transit buses. The guidelines and the accompanying LCC model resulted from the gathering of site data coupled with a comprehensive review of both capital requirements and operating costs of hybrid-electric buses in comparison with those powered by traditional diesel engines. Information grew out of a sound, engineering-based, independent technical evaluation of the costs, performance, and reliability of hybrid-electric transit bus technology in actual service. The LCC model, contained on the accompanying CD-ROM (CRP-CD-71), allows the user to compare the total life cycle costs across several cost categories for up to 6 different "purchase scenarios." These scenarios let the user decide when the purchases will be made, the types of buses to be compared, the work load of the buses, and many other cost inputs in determining benefits and costs associated with alternative purchasing strategies.

Book Fast Charge Battery Electric Transit Bus In Use Fleet Evaluation Preprint

Download or read book Fast Charge Battery Electric Transit Bus In Use Fleet Evaluation Preprint written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this interim fleet evaluation is to characterize and evaluate the operating behavior of Foothill Transit's fast charge battery electric buses (BEBs). Future research will compare the BEBs' performance to conventional vehicles. In an effort to better understand the impacts of drive cycle characteristics on advanced vehicle technologies, researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory analyzed over 148,000 km of in-use operational data, including driving and charging events. This analysis provides an unbiased evaluation of advanced vehicle technologies in real-world operation demonstrating the importance of understanding the effects of road grade and heating, ventilating and air conditioning requirements when deploying electric vehicles. The results of this analysis show that the Proterra BE35 demonstrated an operating energy efficiency of 1.34 kWh/km over the data reporting period.

Book Analysis of Electric Bus Deployments at Transit Agencies

Download or read book Analysis of Electric Bus Deployments at Transit Agencies written by Brittney N. Glick and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transit agencies across the country are turning to zero-emission electric buses at a much faster rate than school districts. This technical memorandum summarizes transit agency experiences with the purchase, operation, and support of electric buses. These experiences can help identify potential concerns for school districts planning for the use of electric buses. Electric buses have better fuel economy than buses fueled by other sources, but they have reduced range. Transit agencies must be prepared for the reduced range and be proactive in planning which routes the buses will be used on and when charging will be needed. While electricity prices are generally lower than other fuel costs, transit agencies should be mindful of higher demand charges that will be applied when buses are charged during peak periods.

Book Feasibility Study of Electric Buses in Tripoli Lebanon

Download or read book Feasibility Study of Electric Buses in Tripoli Lebanon written by Tania Khalil and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world is shifting towards clean energy, the growing concern about public transportation and its impact on the environment is becoming a common interest for several countries. Sustainability in public transportation is essential in crowded cities to have a healthy environment. This study aims to assess the feasibility of alternative propulsion systems in public transportation and evaluate the available options in the second most crowded city in Lebanon, Tripoli. The proposed systems in this paper, which include the CNG, electric and hybrid buses are compared with the conventional diesel technology and an ultimate solution is adopted. The model mainly consists of designing a public transportation network in Tripoli area, developing a Life cycle cost calculation, and evaluating alternatives using Fuzzy Vikor method, where a comparison of results is done to reach ultimate solution. Alternative fuel systems for bus networks are proposed and evaluated considering cost, performance, environment, safety and infrastructure requirements. Sensitivity analysis is utilized to evaluate the impact on feasibility of Electric buses when adopting variable parameters such as varying electricity Tariffs, integrating solar energy sources, increasing ticket prices and applying various criteria weights. The study reveals that the Battery electric Depot Charging system (E-bus DC) has the least environmental impact and is the best option under several scenarios when considering a high importance related to environment. However, under normal conditions, the Diesel Bus is the most viable solution due to its low capital cost, with a minimum of 6% lower total ownership cost compared to other options. Some recommendations might be considered to achieve better results in adopting electric bus system, such as integrating renewable energy, decreasing electricity tariffs, raising ticket price, attracting funds from international organizations, incentivizing policies, developing an operation plan and collaborating with private sector. Lebanon can have an enhanced quality of life and optimistic future by embracing sustainable transportation
