Book Structural Engineering and Geomechanics Volume 1

Download or read book Structural Engineering and Geomechanics Volume 1 written by Sashi K. Kunnath and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2020-06-22 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of dynamic effects on structures is critical to minimize losses from earthquakes and other hazards. These three books provide an overview of essential topics in structural and geotechnical engineering with an additional focus on related topics in earthquake engineering to enable readers gain such an understanding. One of the ultimate objectives of these books is to provide readers with insights into seismic analysis and design. However, in order to accomplish that objective, background material on structural and geotechnical engineering is necessary. Hence the first two sections of the book provide this background material followed by selected topics in earthquake engineering. The material is organized into three major parts. The first section covers topics in structural engineering. Beginning with fundamental mechanics of materials, the book includes chapters on linear and nonlinear analysis as well as topics on modeling of structures from different perspectives. In addition to traditional design of structural systems, introductions to important concepts in structural reliability and structural stability are discussed. Also covered are subjects of recent interest, viz., blast and impact effects on structures as well as the use of fiber reinforced polymer composites in structural applications. Given the growing interest in urban renewal, an interesting chapter on restoration of historic cities is also included. The second part of the book covers topics in geotechnical engineering, covering both shallow and deep foundations and issues and procedures for geotechnical modeling. The final part of the book focuses on earthquake engineering with emphasis on both structures and foundations. Here again, the material covered includes both traditional seismic design and innovative seismic protection. And more importantly, concepts in modeling for seismic analysis are highlighted.

Book Structural and Stress Analysis

Download or read book Structural and Stress Analysis written by T.H.G. Megson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-02-17 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural analysis is the corner stone of civil engineering and all students must obtain a thorough understanding of the techniques available to analyse and predict stress in any structure. The new edition of this popular textbook provides the student with a comprehensive introduction to all types of structural and stress analysis, starting from an explanation of the basic principles of statics, normal and shear force and bending moments and torsion. Building on the success of the first edition, new material on structural dynamics and finite element method has been included.Virtually no prior knowledge of structures is assumed and students requiring an accessible and comprehensive insight into stress analysis will find no better book available. - Provides a comprehensive overview of the subject providing an invaluable resource to undergraduate civil engineers and others new to the subject - Includes numerous worked examples and problems to aide in the learning process and develop knowledge and skills - Ideal for classroom and training course usage providing relevant pedagogy

Book Structural Members and Frames

Download or read book Structural Members and Frames written by Theodore V. Galambos and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-10 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geared toward graduate students and professionals in structural engineering, this text presents a detailed treatment of the elastic and inelastic behavior of metal beams, columns, beam-columns, and rigid frames. All four topics receive separate chapters, in which the background for their general behavior is discussed in terms of specific structural tests. The chapters also examine theoretical elastic behavior and the termination of usefulness by elastic buckling, behavior in the inelastic region, and the uses of various conceptual models in predicting inelastic instability. The final section of each chapter covers procedures and provides interpretations of structural specifications. Two additional chapters offer an introduction to the text and derive the differential equations governing the elastic deformations of prismatic thin-walled open members. Numerous examples throughout the treatment illustrate theory and applications.

Book Strength of Structural Elements

Download or read book Strength of Structural Elements written by Zbigniew Brzoska and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume describes engineering applications of the mechanics of deformable bodies and the elasticity theory relevant to them. It is concerned mainly with one-dimensional problems, which arise because either one of the dimensions of a body is much greater than the remaining two or the functions of two or three variables may be reduced to one variable.Problems of this type are of twofold importance. Firstly, many engineering problems can be described with sufficient accuracy just in this way. Secondly, unidimensional problems with known analytical solutions may serve either for testing numerical methods or for the analysis of fundamental concepts and phenomena, whose physical nature in three-dimensional approach might be obscured by the analytical-numerical aspect. The authors have confined themselves for the most part to the analysis of elastic behaviour of structures; however some attention is also given to elastic problems. A deterministic approach has been applied throughout the book. It will serve as a springboard for further work with stochastic approaches which are being increasingly used in engineering practice today.
