En este contexto, el objetivo básico de este trabajo es describir la evolución reciente que ha experimentado el trabajo a tiempo parcial en los últimos años. Para ello, en primer lugar se presenta un resumen de la normativa que afecta a esta modalidad contractual en España. A continuación se revisan algunas de las principales ventajas y desventajas que puede presentar el trabajo a tiempo parcial destacadas dentro de la literatura especializada. Por último, el trabajo se centra en analizar la evolución que ha experimentado este tipo de contratación desde diferentes perspectivas desagregadas ya sea por sectores económicos, tipos de contratos, etc. Así pues, a través del análisis que se lleva a cabo se verá como una característica del empleo a tiempo parcial es el bajo nivel de voluntariedad, dado que una parte significativa de la población lo realiza de manera involuntaria.
