El Rosario propone la meditación de los misterios de Cristo con un método característico, adecuado para favorecer su asimilación. Se trata del "método basado en la repetición". La repetición, el silencio, considerar la escena de la vida de María o de Jesús es "como abrir un escenario en el cual concentrar la atención". En este sentido el Rosario, además de una devoción mariana casi milenaria, es un método para contemplar, un camino seguro para llegar a Jesús. Pensemos que la Virgen que concibió por obra del Espíritu Santo (como veremos en el primer Misterio de gozo), le tuvo en su seno durante nueve meses, como cualquier madre y pasó así su "ADN" a Jesús: conociéndole a Ella podemos conocer a Jesús.En momentos en los que la prisa, el estrés y la falta de concentración nos afecta a todos en la relación con Dios, se recomienda rezar al menos semanalmente el "Rosario a cámara lenta", en días de retiro o ante una especial necesidad.El Rosario es una oración contemplativa, a veces desconocida por los cristianos, "que, al conocer poco la tradición contemplativa cristiana, se dejan atraer por otras propuestas" de meditación. Esto es especialmente interesante pensarlo hoy en día ante técnicas de mindfulness y de meditación. "En dichas experiencias abunda también una metodología que, pretendiendo alcanzar una alta concentración espiritual, usan técnicas de tipo psicofísico, repetitivas y simbólicas.El Rosario forma parte de este cuadro universal de la fenomenología religiosa, pero tiene características propias, que responden a las exigencias específicas de la vida cristiana". Cada uno puede decidir qué o cuántos rezar, pues depende de la edad, ocupación o necesidades. El rezo diario del Rosario que se aconseja son cinco Misterios (50 avemarías), y para quien no lo reza habitualmente es bueno comenzar por una decena o Misterio al día. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach

Book excerpt: On a mountainside in sunny Tuscany, in October 1989, 96 people from 23 countries on five continents gathered to learn and teach about the problems of managing contemporary science. The diversity of economic and political systems represented in the group was matched by our occupations, which stretched from science policy practitioners, through research scientists and engineers, through academic observers of science and science policy. It was this diversity, along with the opportunities for infonnal discussion provided by long meals and remote location, that made the conference a special learning experience. Except at lecture time, it was impossible to distinguish the "students" at this event from the "teachers," and even the most senior members of the teaching staff went away with a sense that they had learned more from this group than from many a standard conference on science policy they had attended. The flavor of the conference experience cannot be captured adequately in a proceedings volume, and so we have not tried to create a historical record in this book. Instead, we have attempted to illustrate the core problems the panicipants at the conference shared, discussed, and debated, using both lectures delivered by the fonnal teaching staff and summaries of panel discussions, which extended to other panicipants and therefore increased the range of experiences reponed.

Fragmentation has quickly become a field separate from general ecology. which underscores the severity of the situation since we as a planet are rapidly losing habitat of all types to human disturbance. Getting ecologists. particularly primatologists. to admit that they study in fragments is not easy. In the field of primatology. one studies many things. but rarely do those things (genetics. behavior. population dynamics) get called out as studies in fragmentation. For some reason "fragmentation primatologists" fear that our work is somehow "not as good" as those who study in continuous habitat. We worry that perhaps our subjects are not demonstrating as robust behaviors as they "should" given fragmented or disturbed habitat conditions. I had a colleague openly state that she did not work in fragmented forests. that she merely studied behavior when it was clear that her study sites. everyone of them. was isolated habitat. Our desire to be just another link in the data chain for wild primates is so strong that it makes us deny what kinds of habitats we are working in. However.
