Book El nacimiento del mundo moderno 1780 1914 Conexiones y comparaciones globales

Download or read book El nacimiento del mundo moderno 1780 1914 Conexiones y comparaciones globales written by Christopher Alan Bayly and published by Siglo XXI de España Editores. This book was released on 2010 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Nationalism Religious Violence and Hate Speech in Nineteenth Century Western Europe

Download or read book Nationalism Religious Violence and Hate Speech in Nineteenth Century Western Europe written by Francisco Javier Ramón Solans and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nationalism, Religious Violence, and Hate Speech in Nineteenth-Century Western Europe critically analyses the role played by different memories of past religious violence in public debates in nineteenth-century Europe. Looking back, European societies often did not seek to overcome their differences and create a framework of peaceful coexistence among various religions and denominations, but rather, more frequently, to fuel intra- and inter-religious hatred. Moreover, various violent pasts were mobilised to define what and who was intolerant, in order to mark the "other" as intolerant and therefore incompatible with societal values. To examine conflicting memories of violence and hatred, this book focuses on commemorations, statues, publications, and public polemics surrounding past religious violence. Three elements serve as a framework to explain the conflictive nature of these memories of intolerance: the age of commemorations, the culture wars, and the second confessional age. The authors explore cases in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the Low Countries, covering Catholicism, Protestantism, Anglicanism, Islam, and Judaism. The book focuses on iconic victims such as Giordano Bruno and Michael Servetus, collective massacres, and discourses surrounding religious hatred in events such as the Crusades. The cases of religious violence remembered in the nineteenth century span the Middle Ages and the intense period of religious violence known as the confessional age. This book will appeal to students and scholars of politics, religious tolerance and freedom, hate speech, nationalism, religious history, and European history.

Book In the Footsteps of Spanish Colonialism in Morocco and Equatorial Guinea

Download or read book In the Footsteps of Spanish Colonialism in Morocco and Equatorial Guinea written by Yolanda Aixelà Cabré and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2018-07 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The failure to manage cultural diversity in Morocco and Equatorial Guinea in an egalitarian manner has been linked to the hallmark of colonialism. First, because the policy practiced upon Arabs and Moroccan Imazighen since the French colonization comprised one of the reasonings employed to justify the pro-Arab policies developed after independence. Second, because the discriminatory policy deployed by Spain in Equatorial Guinea, was overridden by the installation of a dictatorship that established a system of Fang predominance. This book clarifies the degree to which the Spanish colonization is responsible for the present-day management of cultural diversity in both countries.

Download or read book Los or genes del mundo moderno written by Robert B. Marks and published by Grupo Planeta (GBS). This book was released on 2007 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The United Kingdom and Spain in the Eighteenth Century

Download or read book The United Kingdom and Spain in the Eighteenth Century written by Manuel-Reyes García Hurtado and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-23 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to bridge a gap in the historiography of Spain and Great Britain by arguing that while the eighteenth century witnessed periods of tension, conflict and hostility between the two powers, their relationship remained multifaceted and significant in other spheres. Throughout the eighteenth century, Spain and Great Britain passed through phases of open warfare, armed peace and deep suspicion. The British capture of Gibraltar and Menorca dealt a severe blow to the newly established Bourbon dynasty in Spain. Even in times of war, however, not all communication channels were closed, with numerous formal and informal contacts being made despite the volatile political climate and enmities. The contributors of this book go beyond the well-known animosity and conflicts to explore the spectrum of interactions, encompassing cultural exchange, traditional diplomacy, trade and espionage plus a multitude of other facets. This book is a valuable resource for researchers and students interested in the complex relations between Great Britain and Spain during the eighteenth century, as well as for a broader audience of historians and both undergraduate and postgraduate students of history and international relations.

Book China s Development from a Global Perspective

Download or read book China s Development from a Global Perspective written by María Dolores Elizalde and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time, the idea of China as a culture and society which was voluntarily secluding itself from the rest of the world was dominant. But, in reality, China has always been part of the world, just as the world has always sought to penetrate China. The relationship between China and the world was, in the past, sometimes smooth, and at other times it was difficult, but nevertheless the bond remained alive. This collection presents an analysis of China from a global perspective within a broad temporal and spatial spectrum. It reveals the early relations established between the Roman Empire and China, the dynamics developed with the countries of the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia and Japan, and the gradual path of Europeans and Americans towards China. The book reviews the development of diplomatic relations, the signing of agreements and alliances, and the rise and resolution of conflicts. It also analyses the forging of economic relations, the establishment of commercial exchanges and the creation of companies, professional bodies and institutions of collaboration.
