Book Ejecta Distribution from Flat Top I Event

Download or read book Ejecta Distribution from Flat Top I Event written by M. V. Anthony and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of the distribution of ejecta from the crater formed by exploding 20 tons of TNT at the surface of a limestone outcrop. The distributions of both in situ material and material artificially introduced into the medium before the explosion are described. Variations with distance from burst point in ejecta areal density and the size distribution of ejecta are analyzed. Relationships between ejecta distribution and site topography and geology are discussed. Suggestions are made as to further work directed toward improving methods of predicting ejecta distribution from large explosions on rock. (Author).

Book Technical Photography of Flat Top I II III

Download or read book Technical Photography of Flat Top I II III written by B. M. Carder and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Flat Top program was to photograph the fireball, shockwave, base surge, ejecta, and early and late cloud formations on each of three separate high-explosive detonations used to simulate equivalent detonations of nuclear devices. Excellent results were obtained on 16-mm, 35-mm, and 70-mm black-and-white film and 35-mm color film. Detailed descriptions of the photographic instrumentation and representative samples of the film records from each of the three events are included in this report. Recommendations for improved coverage on future experiments of this type include the use of an additional close-in photo station, faster framing rates, the use of a timer as a backup on camera shutter closure systems, and more extensive use of color film. Book The Cretaceous Tertiary Event and Other Catastrophes in Earth History

Download or read book The Cretaceous Tertiary Event and Other Catastrophes in Earth History written by Graham Ryder and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume atempts to explore and clarify the relationship among the geological records, the extinctions, and the causes of catastrophes for life in Earth's history. Most of the papers address the geological record and the extinctions across the Cretaceou-Teriary boundary, and the buried Chicxulub structure that is now consensually deemed to be of impact origin and to be intimately related to that boundary." • Author : Billy P. Glass
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-14
  • ISBN : 3540882626
  • Pages : 723 pages

Download or read book Distal Impact Ejecta Layers written by Billy P. Glass and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Impact cratering is an important geological process on all solid planetary bodies, and, in the case of Earth, may have had major climatic and biological effects. Most terrestrial impact craters have been erased or modified beyond recognition. However, major impacts throw ejecta over large areas of the Earth's surface. Recognition of these impact ejecta layers can help fill in the gaps in the terrestrial cratering record and at the same time provide direct correlation between major impacts and other geological events, such as climatic changes and mass extinctions. This book provides the first summary of known distal impact ejecta layers

Book Supernova Explosions

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Branch
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2017-08-02
  • ISBN : 3662550547
  • Pages : 719 pages

Download or read book Supernova Explosions written by David Branch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-02 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Targeting advanced students of astronomy and physics, as well as astronomers and physicists contemplating research on supernovae or related fields, David Branch and J. Craig Wheeler offer a modern account of the nature, causes and consequences of supernovae, as well as of issues that remain to be resolved. Owing especially to (1) the appearance of supernova 1987A in the nearby Large Magellanic Cloud, (2) the spectacularly successful use of supernovae as distance indicators for cosmology, (3) the association of some supernovae with the enigmatic cosmic gamma-ray bursts, and (4) the discovery of a class of superluminous supernovae, the pace of supernova research has been increasing sharply. This monograph serves as a broad survey of modern supernova research and a guide to the current literature. The book’s emphasis is on the explosive phases of supernovae. Part 1 is devoted to a survey of the kinds of observations that inform us about supernovae, some basic interpretations of such data, and an overview of the evolution of stars that brings them to an explosive endpoint. Part 2 goes into more detail on core-collapse and superluminous events: which kinds of stars produce them, and how do they do it? Part 3 is concerned with the stellar progenitors and explosion mechanisms of thermonuclear (Type Ia) supernovae. Part 4 is about consequences of supernovae and some applications to astrophysics and cosmology. References are provided in sufficient number to help the reader enter the literature.
