Download or read book Count Data Models written by Rainer Winkelmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents statistical methods for the analysis of events. The primary focus is on single equation cross section models. The book addresses both the methodology and the practice of the subject and it provides both a synthesis of a diverse body of literature that hitherto was available largely in pieces, as well as a contribution to the progress of the methodology, establishing several new results and introducing new models. Starting from the standard Poisson regression model as a benchmark, the causes, symptoms and consequences of misspecification are worked out. Both parametric and semi-parametric alternatives are discussed. While semi-parametric models allow for robust interference, parametric models can identify features of the underlying data generation process.

Download or read book Simulating Data with SAS written by Rick Wicklin and published by SAS Institute. This book was released on 2013 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data simulation is a fundamental technique in statistical programming and research. Rick Wicklin's Simulating Data with SAS brings together the most useful algorithms and the best programming techniques for efficient data simulation in an accessible how-to book for practicing statisticians and statistical programmers. This book discusses in detail how to simulate data from common univariate and multivariate distributions, and how to use simulation to evaluate statistical techniques. It also covers simulating correlated data, data for regression models, spatial data, and data with given moments. It provides tips and techniques for beginning programmers, and offers libraries of functions for advanced practitioners. As the first book devoted to simulating data across a range of statistical applications, Simulating Data with SAS is an essential tool for programmers, analysts, researchers, and students who use SAS software. This book is part of the SAS Press program.
Download or read book Semiparametric Regression written by David Ruppert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-07-14 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiparametric regression is concerned with the flexible incorporation of non-linear functional relationships in regression analyses. Any application area that benefits from regression analysis can also benefit from semiparametric regression. Assuming only a basic familiarity with ordinary parametric regression, this user-friendly book explains the techniques and benefits of semiparametric regression in a concise and modular fashion. The authors make liberal use of graphics and examples plus case studies taken from environmental, financial, and other applications. They include practical advice on implementation and pointers to relevant software. The 2003 book is suitable as a textbook for students with little background in regression as well as a reference book for statistically oriented scientists such as biostatisticians, econometricians, quantitative social scientists, epidemiologists, with a good working knowledge of regression and the desire to begin using more flexible semiparametric models. Even experts on semiparametric regression should find something new here.
Download or read book Numerical Methods for Laplace Transform Inversion written by Alan M. Cohen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-16 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives background material on the theory of Laplace transforms, together with a fairly comprehensive list of methods that are available at the current time. Computer programs are included for those methods that perform consistently well on a wide range of Laplace transforms. Operational methods have been used for over a century to solve problems such as ordinary and partial differential equations.

Download or read book Bayesian inference with INLA written by Virgilio Gomez-Rubio and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The integrated nested Laplace approximation (INLA) is a recent computational method that can fit Bayesian models in a fraction of the time required by typical Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. INLA focuses on marginal inference on the model parameters of latent Gaussian Markov random fields models and exploits conditional independence properties in the model for computational speed. Bayesian Inference with INLA provides a description of INLA and its associated R package for model fitting. This book describes the underlying methodology as well as how to fit a wide range of models with R. Topics covered include generalized linear mixed-effects models, multilevel models, spatial and spatio-temporal models, smoothing methods, survival analysis, imputation of missing values, and mixture models. Advanced features of the INLA package and how to extend the number of priors and latent models available in the package are discussed. All examples in the book are fully reproducible and datasets and R code are available from the book website. This book will be helpful to researchers from different areas with some background in Bayesian inference that want to apply the INLA method in their work. The examples cover topics on biostatistics, econometrics, education, environmental science, epidemiology, public health, and the social sciences.

Download or read book Bayesian Data Analysis Third Edition written by Andrew Gelman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its third edition, this classic book is widely considered the leading text on Bayesian methods, lauded for its accessible, practical approach to analyzing data and solving research problems. Bayesian Data Analysis, Third Edition continues to take an applied approach to analysis using up-to-date Bayesian methods. The authors—all leaders in the statistics community—introduce basic concepts from a data-analytic perspective before presenting advanced methods. Throughout the text, numerous worked examples drawn from real applications and research emphasize the use of Bayesian inference in practice. New to the Third Edition Four new chapters on nonparametric modeling Coverage of weakly informative priors and boundary-avoiding priors Updated discussion of cross-validation and predictive information criteria Improved convergence monitoring and effective sample size calculations for iterative simulation Presentations of Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, variational Bayes, and expectation propagation New and revised software code The book can be used in three different ways. For undergraduate students, it introduces Bayesian inference starting from first principles. For graduate students, the text presents effective current approaches to Bayesian modeling and computation in statistics and related fields. For researchers, it provides an assortment of Bayesian methods in applied statistics. Additional materials, including data sets used in the examples, solutions to selected exercises, and software instructions, are available on the book’s web page.
